I don't understand the requirement to double VPN. On my synology, I can use a hostname setup via ddns and ssl cert my access... No cert, no access.

I always get the streaming plan. On VPN usage, its best to use a paid service that rotates their ports. NordVPN/ExpressVPN both do this. TORguard stealth vpn is also good. Carnival says 'its not supported'. That isn't the same as 'not allowed' although I'll admit I haven't read their T&C to see if that's actually in there. Maybe something to do tomorrow. Our last Celebrity cruise (2 weeks ago), using the Starlink streaming service, we were able to stream our youtube TV, watch a Caps game, and stream from my Plex all with no issue and hi def. Had to use the VPN once outside the geofence and Express as well as Nord both never have an issue. I connected via Atlanta, LA and Dallas at various times. This is my experience, yours may differ.

Works on MSC, Princess, Celebrity, Carnival. to be clear, the OP doesn't need to open security for a specific country and frankly that would not be wise. Using the vpn to solve the geolocation issue is the right way to do it, without having to whitelist anything.

Using a travel router (GLi Net Slate) and expressVPN I can access my NAS from anywhere and stream plex. Watched a caps game as well via my firestick.

True story. In this case "mobile" doesn't mean "phone"

Don't forget your VPN software, otherwise your streaming services won't work outside the contiguous US. Not sure if that applies to UK tv or not, but it does for US based services.

Just off the Infinity doing a short 5 day getaway for the DW and myself. Stopped in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Purchased the streaming package for 1 and was blown away. We were able to stream Plex, Youtube Tv, watch a Caps hockey game, make Wi-Fi calls, browse the web, and I even took a few zoom calls. Using a travel router, we were able to connect both phones, an Amazon firestick and my laptop. We had a few minor hiccups (less than 5) that typically resolved on their own within minutes. I'm happy to share how I do my setup if people are interested, however it will take me a few days to type it up w/ pictures so others can follow.

That is not a tip. The company is responsible for 'fairly compensating'. Tipping is for services rendered above and beyond the standard. The standard is whatever the company is paying them to do. Don't let these companies or the public (cruise critic) guilt you or gaslight you into saying it's anything but this. You are right though, it is a personal matter, and no right way or wrong way. Let us not confuse 'fair compensation' with tipping, however.

Our favorite cruise ever was a Carnival ABC It was the itinerary and the onboard entertainment (older adults fighting over pool chairs) that made it fun. However, Carnival has moved down my list (not lower than Princess, however), because their food is so shamefully bad. Perhaps one day we'll return....

Lets be clear. The 'Infinite Balcony' is not a balcony. Don't let Celebrity gaslight you. A balcony is a 'platform projecting from the wall of a building' or in this case, a ship, usually fronted with a railing. You can still be a fan of an extra room with a sliding window, but lets be realistic and not call it a balcony 🙂

Good advice. I use my small travel router and battery pack to do the same thing. It works better than tethering. Btw.. its not the device that restricts wifi hotspots. You have to have an eligible plan. its governed by the providers. Both my apple and android devices have it via Tmobile.

I don't think they're not supporting the cruiser. I think they're simply calling for a level of personal responsibility that seems to be lacking. We'll never really know what the true story is, and without knowing it, how can you fault X?
