  1. I was really happy to have the cancel for any reason some years ago when our cat got sick right before cruise time. Obviously, not a covered reason that would result in a cash refund, but the 100% credit for a future cruise was just as good.

There's a really good, zoomable map here: Sitka Parks & Trails | Best Hikes & Walks | ALASKA.ORG Thimbleberry looks to be a ways out of town. It's flag #5 on the map.
  3. I agree that May is a great time to visit Alaska, but I also think September is too. We've had good weather in both those months. I also rarely buy anything on vacations, so sales don't matter to me one way or another.
  4. We're due to fly to Anchorage on Delta on August 5. At this point, I don't know whether to be optimistic (as in, they'll surely have this sorted by then) or pessimistic (as in there's plenty of time for the next disaster to happen). 😂
  5. I have, and I was happy enough with the price. I wasn't booking a high end cabin, just a deluxe balcony, which is a whole different thing. I did look at the minis and suites, but without a serious intention of booking. one. Too expensive for me.
  6. Yes, and I booked a September 2026 sailing on her.
  7. I got that in the app last week, even though I'd ordered them. I checked the website version of the app, and it said they were shipped. I never got a shipping confirmation email, but they arrived yesterday. Try checking the website version and see if you get something different.
  8. Unbelievable, isn't it? I get this message, and I imagine that's what you get too: Login and access to your booking is currently unavailable. Please check back later.
  9. It's fine in my Edge too. It's also fine on Chrome. Weird.
  10. That's what I read here the other day. Anybody who's ever cruised with Princess even once is now included in "loyalty week." I'm not feeling so loyal anymore.
  11. Thanks for sharing that here. I'm disappointed to see that the Star sailings are Endicott Arm/Dawes Glacier. That's our least favorite and will be a hard sell with my hubby.
  12. We've done quite a few coastals out of San Francisco. The majority of passengers on those seem to be Bay Area and Northern California, with a scattering of folks from all over. No idea on most traveled on these. We're never going to make most traveled, so I just don't pay any attention to that.
  13. Thanks! I'll be sure to come back here with a report. I'm really looking forward to it. 🙂
  14. I won't every use Expedia for hotel reservations again. I booked through them for a late night arrival. Got to the hotel, and the hotel had no reservation for me. I insisted that I'd booked it. They started checking, and I had the wonderful experience of standing around forever in the middle of the night with no notion of whether or not I'd have a place to stay. The hotel eventually said that Expedia - again eventually - admitted that I did have a reservation through them but that it somehow hadn't gotten sent to the hotel. That was the end of me booking through third parties. Now I only book directly with the hotel.
  15. I haven't stayed in that cabin, so I probably shouldn't have an opinion. But I do anyway! I think the people below on Emerald deck will probably get all the noise. I doubt you'd hear any on Dolphin.
  16. Good! I'm glad you were able to get what you wanted. Now, the thing I'm wondering is if the software on the app and on the web version will only allow as many tables for two at 5:00 as they actually have in the traditional dining room. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that it doesn't and they allow way more of those reservations than they actually have tables for.
  17. I'm on the 8/7 sailing of the Grand, coming from the Brooks bear watching cruisetour. What are you on? I'm surprised to be still getting the upgrade emails. I've always wanted to try window suite, which is still one of the options, but I recently noticed that the tvs are between the windows on the outside wall. Really bad placement that wouldn't bother me but would drive my DH nuts.
  18. We've only done one redeye, and that was way more than enough. Never again. It left us pretty much useless the whole following day. You might fare better than that, but why risk it? Option 1 would be my choice.
  19. I would also like to know the source for this.
  20. Yes, both have to upgrade. We never get packages, since the math just doesn't work out for us.
  21. This is some really good information, and I thank you very much for posting it! It's news to me that you need to get on a list to be called to go to the bear watching platform. How did you spend your time on the two-hour wait before you were called? I imagine you need to stay put right there, since you probably have no idea when you'll be called. Also, about how long did the bear school take? And I know my hubby will ask, how long did you have for actual bear watching?
  22. I can't answer most of your questions, but I can tell you that your waiter will be happy to bring you a big dish of plain, steamed vegetables every night. Hubby and I eat a lot of vegetables, and we often do this when we cruise. You'll get whatever items are on the night's menus.
  23. Yeah, this one has me muttering into my not-beard. They're not leaving us much, are they? What's next?
