  1. There were lots of mistakes and poor judgement, and now proven negligence throughout this whole debacle. This case is not Covid v Princess, nor is it Australia v Princess, nor is it Covid v Cruising, nor is it NSW Health v Princess. I think it is arrogant for someone on the other side of the world to be alleging corruption within a court system they don't understand. This case is simply KARPIK V CARNIVAL PLC. The Karpik's had a commercial arrangement with Princess via the passage contract that was in place for their voyage. The court judgment is simply that Carnival PLC was negligent to those obligations and that Mrs. Karpik was entitled to be compensated for out-of-pocket medical expenses. This was based on the judge's interpretation of the law. Any passengers similarly affected on Voyager/Ovation of the Seas and Celebrity Solstice can argue their case in court, but apart from precedence, that will be totally irrelevant to Karpik V Carnival PLC. Yes, the case document is way too big to absorb. The case summary is much easier to comprehend Karpik v Carnival plc (The Ruby Princess) (Initial Trial) [2023] FCA 1280 (fedcourt.gov.au).
  2. 10 years on, and White Bay hasn't established public transport links with the city. It would be cheaper to build a ferry wharf and extend the existing Citycat route, but that isn't about to happen either. If Brisbane City wants the tourist traffic, they could subsidise the buses. Unlikely also, as the buses are more expensive than the money that will be spent in the city.
  3. I don't know what the arrangement is for the other brands. Princess have a free crew shuttle that takes them to the airport Woolies & DFO.
  4. And all the bitumen in the world isn't going to fix that.
  5. Whichever way, the first use of tipping in the English language in the context of a gift was around 1700. Initialisms were seldom used in the 2nd half of the 1800's, and acronyms became popular with the advent of telegraph. The first known initialism is 140 years after the first known use of tipping. Back when this origin of tip as a capitalism or acronym was meant to have originated, people just didn't communicate that way. For me, ensure or insure is just semantics.
  6. 7pm arrival into Auckland has been but back to 8:30PM.
  7. Our justification is somewhat different. I agree on some of those. Otherwise I consider we know our own health and when we can have a drink or an extra slice of pizza. We are also different in the point that without being able to stay in touch electronically, there is no way we would be able to cruise for 2 months. So it comes down to paying $130 up front for inclusions we will use without chasing the benefit, or being "economical" for the cruise and bringing it down to around $90 for the sake of making a point. We left P&O for the unchanging stodge on a plate menus. That gap with Princess is expanding year on year.
  8. I have a good mate that spent several years driving tour coaches out of Darwin - 1, 2, 3, 4 day tours through Kakadu, Litchfield & Katherine. Apart from driving, he was also on the mic for much of the day, acting as a guide in several of the stops, and taking 100's of photos on all sort of cameras on every trip. Halfway through the final day he would give a spiel about why he didn't want to be tipped. It was a yarn about being a recovering alcoholic, and if he was getting money his wife didn't know about, he would be inclined to call at the pub on the way home. He was just dead-set against tipping, figuring it was money for nothing - easy come, easy go.
  9. We have always looked for a charity box at our final departure airport. If I can't find one, I will buy a drink at an airport shop and offload the remainder into their tip jar.
  10. A total mess, that even when applied doesn't compensate for the loss of inclusive restaurants like Alfredo's. All the feedback to Princess, apart from pulling out a bone-headed move trying to convince us we were getting more, was that the T&C from the time of booking be applied to those already booked (grandfathered). We get the OBC, but I paid $85 each per night to get a package that now comes with the Ocean Now charge, and a charge anytime we want to eat at Alfredo's. Similar to what you are suggesting, we just won't be dining at Alfredo's - full stop. A lose lose situation. Although I expect to be fobbed-off, I will be having a brief discussion with the Captains Circle host. I am negotiating with my wife as to whether we can drop the $65 plus package for our 57 night 1/2 world cruise in 2025. Pity is that it is a good deal, but we can connect to internet a couple of days per week, share 1/2 bottle of vino each night at dinner, and otherwise have drinks one night per week. We don't need any of the other bloat that is on the current packages.
  11. There is only a partial disembark, 900 according to a comment on another topic. That would speed the disembark a bit if passengers are able to get home or onto a flight out - but - for those that need a hotel, there might not be enough rooms, so allowing them to sleep in their cabin for the night is a good thing for them. On the flip side, it would be tough for those who were expecting to check-out of their hotel today.
  12. That looks correct. The entry for Majestic Princess has been erased from Tauranga's shipping pages.
  13. Thinking of you today. Are you still planning to be aboard? It appears Auckland weather isn't being kind.
  14. The remnants of Lola are stirring things up on NZ's north island. Majestic Princess was meant to be turning over some of her passengers in Auckland today, but they are still hanging about off the coast in rough conditions. It currently looks like the seas will improve late this afternoon, and they are now scheduled to dock in Auckland at 7pm this evening, departing tomorrow evening. That will result in the dropping of Tauranga or Bay of Islands from their schedule. Ovation was also meant to be in Auckland for the day today. They have well and truly ditched those plans and those for Bay of Islands tomorrow. They are currently heading for the Cook Strait to spend tomorrow in Wellington instead.
  15. For Sydney, Taronga Zoo. It is also a very easy ferry ride from Circular Quay. For Melbourne, Healesville is a different experience. If you like wildlife, it is worth doing both.
  16. One has rights from 11pm to 3am, the other 3am to 7am. Seems fair.
  17. Another cruise line that has come & gone. It is rare to have any relocations or port calls on world cruises here during our winter months. So many of the seasonal ships are here because of a shared use with Alaska. Alaska is much more profitable to them, as they are burning way less fuel in a week than they do here - the $$ difference is massive. If Royal could somehow have a ship here year-round, it would put some pressure on the Carnival brands to offer something different. Till then, the Brisbane terminal will be used 6 to 7 days in summer, 1 to 2 days in winter.
  18. Yes, currently $27 per day for casual internet - but that ain't gonna cut it if sharing a connection with teens. 😂
  19. Similar difference between the class leaders as well, Voyager slightly older than Radiance. For a year round ship, I could even see it dropping back to Vision class, at least for the initial season(s).
  20. It is the lead case of a class action, so has the potential to keep rolling on & on. A small amount of money and only a negligence finding, but this is definite story - very much a line in the sand case for one reason - precedence . A bit of light reading to send you to sleep tonight https://www.judgments.fedcourt.gov.au/judgments/Judgments/fca/single/2023/2023fca1280
