  1. Good evening from the lovely Volendam at sea going really slow to Seattle. I haven’t said much about this segment because it’s not quite what I’m used to. Since it’s a short 4 day cruise there are a lot of young people onboard and a lot of kids. I guess I didn’t realize that so many 30 year olds would like a shorter cruise. And lots of groups, like girlfriends and families and friends. I hate to say it but it reminds me of my one and only Carnival cruise I took 25 years ago with a friend. We have been sailing in a U-turn sort of pattern since leaving Vancouver. We went out past the land that goes beyond the inside passage (sorry but I don’t know what it’s called) and have now turned back in heading to Seattle. It was a bit rolly but not too bad. Our new Captain came onboard, Henk Draper, and the port staff was all a tizzy yesterday because his wife was coming aboard. Vancouver is another story. Whoa! Poor Craig is not going to be happy. What a line even for in transit passengers. Enough said. Have a great evening everyone!
  2. Good evening all! I’m excited because tonight on the MDR menu is Quiche is a favorite of mine so I looking forward to it tonight. Have a great evening!
  3. It was wonderful docking behind you, the Koningsdam. The view from the Crow’s Nest.
  4. Good afternoon from the lovely Volendam at sea on this cloudy and drizzly day. Today is also Dutch Remembrance Day Sorry for the shadow. I wasn’t able to attend but I think it was a special way to remember the day. It has been hard to keep up with the Daily but please know my heart is with all of the Dailyites.
  5. Thank you all so much!! I’m really enjoying the Volendam, such a beautiful ship.
  6. Good afternoon from the lovely Volendam in San Diego this bright sunny day. Disembarkation went faster than expected and even though the last in transit passengers were to report at 9:45, it was announced at 9:20 for all remaining in transit guests to disembark. So off I went. I had errands to run and Starbucks too. The errands got done quickly but Starbucks was a miss. I had wanted to download some movies but the connection was too slow. Oh well. Back onboard at 11:30 and there were no lines for those embarking or for in transit. I’ve missed so much and there is no way I can go back and send well wishes and celebrations. So forgive me but my thoughts are with you all. Laura @TiogaCruiser, I’m sorry that we were unable to say goodbye. Thank you so much for your hibiscus flowers. I’m enjoying them and they are very special. Now how do I get them home and not crushed? 😉 Have a great day everyone!
  7. I am surprised that I’m enjoying my inside cabin as much as I am. It’s so nice having it totally dark when I sleep. I have a daily routine and don’t miss a window while getting ready. I definitely get my sea view time when out and about.
  8. Good early afternoon and Happy Saturday from the lovely Volendam. Yesterday was Puerto Vallarta and I did the excursion Bruce @aliaschief did. The Puerto Vallarta Highlights and Cooking Class. It was fantastic. Except for the road. Very very bumpy and I’m not exaggerating. On the way up I actually had to take an extra Bonine. On the way back to the ship our bags of purchases went flying on floor. I’m now calling it the long and windy road. It was very fun and I highly recommend it even if the drive is bumpy. I’ll post pictures later. Time for lunch! It’s rough living life onboard! 😉
  9. For Annie @marshhawk, selection on the Volendam: Just remember it’s only open at sea and not in port.
  10. Not that I’m aware of. It’s in the Lido and lI think you have to reserve it, but not entirely sure. Have to be honest….. I don’t eat very often in the Lido, usually just lunch on port days.
  11. BTW, here is today’s MDR lunch menu. I was going to order the tuna melt but when I saw it at the table next to decided not to. Too much bread. So I got the fish of the day—flounder and it was delicious.
  12. I thought that the Ruben in the MDR for lunch was 100% better than the Ruben I’ve had on the Pinnacle ships at the NY Deli. I ordered a half sandwich with fries and extra sauce.
  13. Good morning and Happy Thursday from the lovely Volendam. Front page of today’s Daily program for King’s Day. Orange Party tonight. More later. Enjoy your day!
  14. I am currently on the Volendam. I frequent the Ocean Bar and there is live music, 3 piece: piano, guitar, drums, and a dance floor. Lots of people dancing. Times are listed in the Daily program. Good music in my opinion. There are other options but I haven’t been to them. Here is the list from the program.
  15. Jacqui @kazu is correct, same lunch menu every sea day including embarkation day. However, they have started adding two “Daily Specials”. Here is today’s menu. I can’t download the menu from embarkation day, internet is too slow right now. But this will give you an idea. IIRC a Ruben sandwich was one of the specials. They repeated it yesterday and I ordered a half sandwich. It was delicious and I’m picky about Rubens.
  16. Good evening from the lovely Volendam. I had a nice relaxing afternoon. Trivia was hard — old pictures of famous people and we had to guess who they are. Our table asked for more of the white wine and I ended up drinking that instead of the red but unfortunately I had already drunk some of the red. Wow Ann!! That’s crazy. We get hail sometimes but the worst is in Eastern Colorado where I grew up. Feel better Jacqui. Hugs to you. Ivan will have a great home with you. PS—I’ve avoided that thread like the plague. I would get too riled up and who needs stress like that? Not me!
  17. Good afternoon and Happy Wednesday from the lovely Volendam at sea today. Like Carolyn @Cruising-along, I had a bad night sleep. I think it was the red wine I drank last night at the Pinnacle Grill Cellar Master dinner. I decided to go at the last minute and sat with two of my trivia friends. I need to remember not to drink red wine. It was very delicious and I am thinking about going to the Canaletto Cellar Master dinner on the 30th. Bruce @aliaschief, oh my goodness I don’t think I could stand it being that cold in my cabin! Laura @TiogaCruiser, I saw pictures of the seafood boil on the HAL fan’s Facebook page. It looked wonderful but way too much food for me. From what was posted everyone raved about it. BTW, I am in the Ocean Bar and just was watching the line dancing. It looked like you were having fun. Debbie @dfish, Happy Happy Birthday!! Enjoy your special day! 🎈🎈🎈 Blessings to all undergoing surgery today. Cheers to everyone celebrating today.
  18. Good afternoon and Happy Tuesday from the lovely Volendam. I’ve been busy on this sea day with many more to come. I’m heading to trivia now so I’ll try to post later. Just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Gerry’s DH @ger_77 !! 🎈🎈🎈 And that the Volendam had a ANZAC service early this morning. Have a great day everyone!
  19. No, it’s free, although it’s only offered on Sunday’s at sea and I’m still not sure if it’s fleet wide. It does not include wine. The $5 were for the sparkling wine drink specials, like mimosas.
  20. The Sunday Brunch was very good but very big, at least for me. I would definitely do it again but not eat breakfast next time.
