  1. As I was thinking of things I want to accomplish in the new year - Losing Weight would be a lot easier if I didn't read this board.
  2. New years is great on a cruise. We did the millennium from New Zealand to L.A. Because we were traveling east we had 2 new years and 2 great celebrations - one formal and one informal. A great holiday to celebrate on the ship
  3. I agree with you Vince but it always struck me strange you pay thousands of dollars for a cruise but are reluctant to pay an additional $30 per person for a special meal - I guess it isn't the money but "i won't pay for anything on all-inclusive".
  4. Grew up in that area of Manhattan and Gramercy tavern was a favorite place
  5. Symphony in Portland, Me on Oct 22, 2018. I think this was the last visit to Portland of a Crystal ship. Serenity was supposed to be here this year but... I went to the dock and talked with the crew and officers - told them I'd see them in May in Tokyo. Crew was as always super to talk with.
  6. Today in Portland, Maine with two large cruise vessels in port along with kite flying in the park across from the docking area. Plenty of tourists around this time of year
  7. I remember there were a bunch of us from Cruise Critic forum on that cruise - only time that I did the meet and great cause I wanted to meet some of you. The fact that I remember anything about anything 10 years ago is a surprise. Maybe we weren't heading past Halifax that am but I remember looking at one of the electronic maps on a wall on the ship and discussing with another passenger about it looks as if we could have gotten to Halifax. Who knows we could have been many hundreds of miles out to sea. That cruise didn't stop us from being continuous Crystal passengers.
  8. Yup - probably my only "bad" Crystal cruise - we actually started in London and were told upon debarkation that we were going to miss a port on the north of Iceland due to weather. Then because of the weather and not being able to get out of port we were told we were missing Halifax - however on the maps on board we actually passed Halifax about 5 hours before schedule. Then In NYC since we hadn't be able to board customs officials it took forever to get ship cleared and be able to disembark However, in spite of those memories - the service and everything else on the ship was great as usual. Not happy trip for us but still a Crystal trip.
  9. I remember that cruise and the horrible weather - I have a picture similar to that. I also remember we couldn't get out Reykjavik because the wind was so strong and they hadn't ordered any tugs - 5 hours later we finally left Reykjavik.
  10. I suspect at least the first cruises will be filled with former Crystal regulars.
  11. I grew up in NYC and there was at least 1 but even then most were on the streets leading to BWAY
  12. Especially since most Broadway shows/theaters are actually just off Broadway.
  13. I would assume and plan to do laundry on the trip. Some depends upon cruise line and what facilities they have.
  14. Here in Portland, ME the large ship season has started. The 2nd large ship has arrived. We've had the small American Lines ships for a while now. However, on the ballot in November in Portland is a rule that would prohibit more that 1000 people to get off a ship (passengers and crew included). This is similar to Bar Harbor, Me. There is some question if this is legal but.. Wouldn't effect the new sized Crystal ships I assume but.
  15. Also Crystal refugees" and I agree about not paying and that much to eat at a restaurant on a luxury line. Crystal started charging $30 for alternate restaurants after first visit - in theory to keep demand down which who knows. I think it is wrong and if you aren't a fine wine person then why? If no charge for the restaurant but charge for fine wine - then that would be OK to me
  16. Looks great but ultimately does the food taste good to YOU. Certainly enough choice but again will you get what you like when you want it. We'll all figure that our next year
  17. Up here in Maine at this time of year we have to allow extra time getting anywhere since parent birds take their young for walks and cross many main roads. They are very good at blocking and having guard birds make sure all is well. It is very cute except when you need to get somewhere.
  18. maybe after I win the lottery tomight I'll get red and another color Ferrari
  19. Maybe we should just get back to NY Pizza
  20. Crystal was considered a luxury line and it had a 1000 passenger ship - they reduced capacity but was over 1000 for some time
  21. Wonder if she has earlier dry dock appointment. Or they are racing
  22. Since the Open in in progress: On a Crystal Cruise -can't remember the exact year. It was golf themed; A tour was offered to play at St. Andrews with Billy Casper. It wasn't the old course but one of the others at St Andrews although we did get to see and walk on part of the old course. Wasn't the day when we all had phones with cameras but I kept a couple of golf balls from the visit.
  23. I remember when Crystal introduced the wines. A lot f comments about another waste of money. I guess memory counts more than money at this stage
  24. Anyone have any idea what is happening with the Crystal River ships? The ocean ones apparently have been sold but I've heard nothing recently about the river vessels. Thanks
  25. Do you or someone else knows what the cancellation policy is? How close to the sail date can you cancel and get your money back (maybe with a cancellation fee)?
