  1. With all these complaints, I will be curious to see if Zuiderdam's impending drydock will bring the ship up to the standard that the "23 WC's expect. If not, the complaints herein will mushroom exponentially!
  2. Perhaps the "harried passengers" will think to arrive the day before sailing the next time. No sympathy.
  3. If I am understanding you correctly, since you were covered by insurance, why should HAL reimburse you again? An insurance company won't for something that another insurance policy is obligated to pay. Reading all these complaints, however justified that they may be, reaffirms my increasing inclination to cancel two lengthy cruises scheduled for 2023. This just doesn't sound like fun!
  4. No. Isolated in the same cabin but notice of isolation was sent to every department on the ship. I have no problems with that; it is the threat of testing positive and being isolated in a cabin separated from Dh that bothers me. Hopefully, all that will change before July.
  5. For many of us, however, it is not the fear of getting sick. It is the inconvenience of testing, masking, and possibly having to isolate separately with spouse/friend. For those of us who have been vaccinated, the threat of Covid probably has less discomfort than a case of the flu. Or at least I prefer to think of it in those terms.
  6. Both of my flu cases were before Covid was diagnosed - one in 2018 and one in late 2019. I was diagnosed with the flu and isolated because it. Covid did not become a household word until some weeks later. Since I was the one isolated, I believe that I have a firmer knowledge of the circumstances.
  7. Actually, flu cases were isolated. I had the flu on both the Grand Asia and on the SA/Antarctica. In both cases I was isolated to my cabin. Further, Medical advised not to try sneaking out because every department on the ship had been notified to advise if they saw me outside the cabin. They would not release me until my temperature was normal for 24 hours.
  8. I thought the "rule" was that if booked through a TA, all comunication re the booking is through them, not directly with HAL. BTW, we have always booked through a TA, and we have received two upgrades, including a free one from a Zaandam verandah to a NS.
  9. And that is frequently the only time when a serious swimmer get to do laps.
  10. Have you forgotten the disastrous Veendam experiment? The "lazy rivers" were drenching the deck and the sunbathers (and leaking into lower cabins) during rough weather.
  11. Given the size of the ships' pools, using a float would be less than considerate. It would take a very large pool where someone using a float would not interfere with other pool users' enjoyment.
  12. Thank you for posting. Please do continue to do so. I am primarily interested in the Asia cruises and hope that sometime in 2023 HAL will announced another Grand Asia. If you come across any announcement regarding the Asia cruises, I would so appreciate your posting it.
  13. In checking the 2023 schedule for departures from Boston for June, July, and August, 2023, it appears that both the Zuiderdam and the Zaandam have regular departures. I think the Zuiderdam has 3 and the Zaandam has 4. That looks like both ships are homeported in Boston during that period; but, then, perhaps I am misunderstanding what is meant by homeporting.
  14. I don't know that what they have is even accurate. I note that they have the Zaandam in Boston from May - September. My booking for the July VOV, out of Boston, is on the Zuiderdam.
  15. Interesting. How do the MSC Yacht Club and HAL's Neptune Suites prices compare?
  16. How fortunate that this emergency did not occur a few days later if the first port is on the other side of the Atlantic.
  17. For us, it would be a necessity. I was relieved to hear this news.
  18. Interesting. Thank you for the explanation. That answers my questions - and concerns. Cutting China out of Asian and the '24 WC raised the question of what area(s) will be substituted. The WC has several days and two o/n's devoted to China. Thailand would be a possibility.
  19. Does a lockdown in China mean that there will be no cruise ship in its ports? It would seem that way, yet, I thought that a couple of weeks ago China announced that it was considering the resumption of opening its ports. Japan has announced that it will be doing so around mid-October, if I remember correctly.
  20. What damages are you sustaining by Medicare's payments for your wife's injury? Sorry, but my legal mind is stumbling over that one.
  21. Update: It has been reported on the '23 WC thread that the library on the Zuiderdam will be restored during its December, '22, drydock. Yay!
