  1. They don’t put iced tea into the machines until breakfast is over. They also have lemonade after breakfast. Tea is unsweetened and they have all of the sweeteners. I like lemon in my iced tea so I add a squirt of lemonade. If there is no lemonade I get a twist of lemon or lime from the bar. EM
  2. Go to the top of the threads page, upper left. Right beneath where it says Find your roll call, in smaller print is See posts about: and to the right of that ‘select ship. Click on that and you will get a dropdown menu of Carnival ships. Click on Spirit and you will get pages of threads about the Spirit.
  3. Actually, it’s a good idea. Ack in 2009 there was that swine flu scare and cruises to the z Mexican riviera were rerouted to Vancouver. People cancelled right and left. I booked a B2B on Splendor dirt cheap. The first week there was a lady at my table who had had both knees replaced over about three months. After the second surgery they sent her to a nursing home to rehab, as there was no availability in a rehab center. She was depressed and told the doctor she wanted to go home. He said she could if she had someone to cook and clean for her, and room to walk. She said she knew just where she could get that, and booked three cruises, three different ships. And I think knees are a harder recovery than a hip, although my mother did fantastic at 80 or so. EM
  4. Since you are wanting to do the Panama Canal on Princess in November, I see there are two choices: Emerald Princess and Coral Princess. If seeing the historic original canal is your objective, you want to be on Coral Princess, because she will use the old original locks. And she is doing a full transit. Emerald Princess must use the new locks, and is on,y doing a partial transit.. in order to see the original canal you would have to take an excursion on a small ferry type excursion boat, which will be crowded and probably uncomfortable. NCL and Viking Ocean also have ships doing partial transits but through the original locks. EM
  5. As long as no one makes a new post/reply they will sink back to page 2, then 3, etc. EM
  6. Looks like Seashore from Port Canaveral
  7. There are lots of cruise lines sailing from the UK in June. Just about every P&O ship is sailing from Southampton, as well as Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL…. Go to cruisetimetables.com and choose the ‘Cruises from’ tab and select whatever UK port pleases you. Click on your month. It will tell you who is sailing and their itineraries. EM
  8. For years I cruised both with my sister, and solo because, though a year younger, I retired several years earlier. We led very different lives, but when we got together, we could finish each other’s sentences. Before cruising took over my vacations I did some worldwide adventure travel. And some of the greatest pleasure was coming home and sharing my experiences. With cruising, it sort of became my mission to show her the world I had traveled and she wished she had. Since her passing two years ago, my problem is that I have no one to share the experiences with. I have cruised five times since, but the experience is just not quite the same. EM
  9. MY sister had a hip replacement at about 75. She was up to walk (reluctantly) the same day. Came home the next day. Doc told her there was no rehab except walking. She used our downstairs bedroom and her first night home I slept in the recliner in the family room. She got herself up with a walker and to the bathroom. Her daughter dragged her around the house for walking rehab. I think she lasted three nights downstairs before she hauled herself upstairs to her own bed. You have to understand that my sister was very sedentary and exercise was never a priority unless shopping in port. EM
  10. Yes there is a white night. No formal/elegant/gala night. EM
  11. I travel solo a lot. But not on lines that have ‘solo’ cabins. In a regular cabin, I side or OV because I find I don’t ever use a balcony. EM
  12. Another problem has always been the short hours it was open. A lot of people who might want to take advantage board too late. EM
  13. According to the deck plan that cabin on,y has a foldout couch. There are several on deck 18 that have the symbols for couch and upper. The cabin category description says sleeps up to 5. It does not say/mean all can accommodate 5. Here is a pic of 18018 with couch out and bunk down (filched from cruisedeckplans):
  14. On the second page of the Celebrity board there is a travelogue about around Japan on Millennium last fall. Member is @Miaminice. She a,so links to another travelogue of the same area. Reading those should give you some idea of what to expect. EM
  15. If you have to climb a ladder back into the boat, how are you getting into the water? By said ladder, or by jumping in? EM
  16. How about getting a guidebook on Japan? Get yourself to the rapid transit and take off. I know @Hlitnerhas done Japan a number of times DIY. I think @Jim_Iainmay have experience, and I believe @BruceMuzzmay live there. As suggested, he k out the Asia board. EM

    Curious

With a cruise that close they are probably assigning gty cabins. EM
  18. I believe Special Needs wants to know that your MIL is bringing a mobility device. Also, she needs to have an accessible cabin as a chair 30” wide will not fit through the 22” door of the standard cabin, and Carnival is cracking down on the SOLAS regulation that assistive devices must be stored in the cabin and not left in the corridor. EM
  19. Cruisedeckplans has a video of that cabin on Mardi Gras. EM
  20. Monday Monday, and Viking Star is transiting eastbound:
  21. I suggest you go to a brick and mortar bookstore, like Barnes & Noble and browse the travel section. Rick Steves covers Bilbao in his Spain book. Lonely Planet has a book on Bilbao and San Sebastián and you can download it for $7.95. Way back when you could purchase only the chapters you needed for download. Browse the books and see what meets your needs. EM
  22. On the deck overlooking the Jungle Pool, no idea of cost. This was December on Seashore. All the greenery is fake.
  23. Well, you have enough people traveling in your group that you could take them all. But between the two chairs, i would look for the place near where you live that had the roughest streets, cobblestones preferred, and try them all out, seeing which manouvers the best and is comfortable. EM
  24. It’s Sunday 3/10 and Emerald Princess is headed westbound. Lovely weather.
  25. If you mean the ‘pool room’ off the sports bar, that no longer exists. It has been turned into the smoking section of the casino with a bunch of slots. It may be located somewhere else. EM
