  1. Because of the drought they are using the approaching ship in the neighboring lock to transfer the water lowering it sideways into the lock you are in to raise you. Unfortunately it makes the transit through the locks longer as they wait for the second ship to move into place. EM
  2. The problem with suing the expired passport as ID is that if you have applied for a renewal, you have to send the expired passport in with the application. So you wouldn’t have it is the new one didn’t arrive in time…but if it did, you wouldn’t need it anyway. The great thing about the test period for online renewal was that you didn’t need to send in the expired passport. EM
  3. Have you ever traveled away for a night or two with them, staying in a hotel? Did you get an extra room for them? Connecting rooms, with a connecting inside door? Depending on cruise line, ship, and type of cabin, those kids may be sharing a pullout couch or upper bunks if the four of you share a cabin. If you go for two cabins, make sure they have the interior connecting door. You would have to book one of you in each cabin, and it would depend on the comfort ,even of you and their mom whether they sleep in the second cabin with the door open. With kids that young I certainly wouldn’t do balcony cabins. Just my opinion. EM
  4. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Cruise Critic has a special area for cruisers to contact other members who are sailing with them. It is called ROLL CALLS. If you go back to the main boards page, scroll down past Cruise line A-O and P-Z and River Cruising, you will come to Roll Calls. Click on your cruise line (Cunard), then Queen Victoria, and look for a thread with the dates for your cruise. EM
  5. As long as it is government issued and has a photo it should be good. @Ferry_Watcherto the white courtesy phone…. EM
  6. Here are captures from the bridgecam of NCL Encore on Thursday In the 9th & 10th pics from the Miraflores cam you can see her in the channel heading for Cocoli Locks. EM
  7. But the zip line location might not be at the beach. Amber Cove has its own zip line over the pool area, but no beach. Which port is the excursion? EM
  8. I would eliminate itineraries with Belize. Nothing there unless you do excursions, long tender ride. Half Moon Cay is HALs private island, used by Carnival when available. Great beach. Amber Cove and Grand Turk are both Carnival created ports, very much alike with great pools. Amber Cove does not have a beach, but does have a zip line. EM
  9. I don’t take anything that can’t be washed by the laundry. So it all goes in but the shoes. EM
  10. You didn’t say which ship you are on, although it probably doesn’t make a difference…but one of the things that may surprise you is how small the bathrooms are, particularly the showers. At least most have plexiglas doors rather than friendly curtains. EM
  11. I think the OP is referring ships that are new to the area, not new in age. Looking for variety. Unfortunately there are no new itineraries…. EM
  12. I visited Rose Hall Great House years ago in Jamaica. It was on a ship tour from Falmouth. I see it is still open for tours. Also visited one with rum distillery in Barbados. I would google the ports on your cruise for plantations, then ask about them on the Ports of Call boards for those islands. EM
  13. The only islands in the Caribbean that might refuse dollars are Martinique and Guadeloupe, which require euros. They are also happy with plastic. EM
  14. All the pics show TV over the vanity. Also, there is no seating other than the chair/stool at the vanity. Any cabin called junior is smaller than others in the same category. If you have a choice, I would wait. Unless you are sailing solo. EM
  15. Did you cat ladies see this April Fool spoof? Just up your alleys…
  16. I think you should post this in the UK cruisers board here. Might be someone there who would qualify for the gig…or offer to tutor you for the gig…. EM
  17. We need to know where you are from to give you accurate answers. It is reported here that for US and UK guests you get a free water package, since drinking water with meals is customary for us. Folks on the MSC board here can advise you more. Welcome to Cruise Critic. EM
  18. Seashore has four MDRs. I believe Central Park on deck 5 is peons only, fixed dining. It is the largest. Tribeca is the next largest, on deck 6. Up on 7 are 5th Avenue and Manhattan. One of those will probably be Aurea, the others overflow peons. Someone may be along to clarify. EM
  19. I was on Seashore in Dec., same itinerary, and going back through the menus, no prime rib or lamb. I could have sworn I had it, but I also sailed Celebrity and Carnival last year where I did have it. E
  20. There will be a lot of two tops. All in a row about 6” from the next one. You just go to the door of whichever MDR it is, tell them what you want, and a waiter will take you there. EM
  21. It’s called the James Bond pier because it was used as a background for scenes in Dr. No. EM
  22. It can be any time. The first time I was only notified of the upgrade, never had an original assignment. EM
