  1. Oh yes. It was 15 steps closer to the elevator banks. Bob
  2. The humor of a surprise upgrade can just leave you laughing , sometimes. So, we arrived at the pier to find out that we had been upgraded? First question was, what about our luggage? Terminal employees said no problem. Right, they were going home to find their clothes in their own closet, right? So, we find out that we had been moved one whole cabin forward which put us into another category. And, much to our surprise......My wife's sister was the passengers moved into our old cabin right next door. And, yes our luggage was delivered to old cabin. Bob
  3. We have been lucky enough to do 23 cruises. The last one on the Discovery in May. Did I notice/miss things from the "OLD" days (pre Covid) yes. Did it impact our enjoyment on the cruise, no. Well I still grip about them cutting out the "Be Back By' sign at the gang way in port. I really think that was a very poor choice of a cut back. A new first time cruiser would have had a wonderful time on the Discovery since they did not know what was changed. And, we are going out again on the Diamond in November, which will not have all of the bells and whistles that the Discovery had, but still are looking forward to that cruise. So, yes, we will be sticking with Princess. Bob
  4. Yikes. We were just there our selves on the Discovery in May. We saw a very large crowd of passengers walking up the dock from the ship. A rock hitting then would have been a major disaster. Bob
  5. I probably explained it wrong. It is cabin E728 Aft. Thanks for answering. Bob
  6. Has anyone had a problem with exhaust soot landing on the balcony and getting into the cabin on a aft facing mini on the Diamond? If so, how bad was it? Did it impact your cruise or did you just ignored it? Thanks Bob
  7. The Princess Treatment. Hmm is that going to require more shots of some kind? Bob
  8. I also found my wrist band to be toooo small. I struggled with it and finally got it to snap. Then I bumped the medallion with my thumb and it turned sideways and wanted to fall out of the band. Don, who publishes on You Tube as Family Vacations, reported that he totally lost his while on a tour. So, I used the lanyard that came with it and just dropped it down inside my shirt while walking around. It only took a second to fish it out if I wanted to order something or check out departing the ship in port. Bob
  9. We were on the Discovery Princess, the newest, shiny, largest ship in the Royal Class. And, Christopher C. issued us our Black Pins so we have a little experience with perks that could/should come our way. No Card in our cabin inviting us to the Elite Lounge and no mention of what was going to be served on any given day. But, what the heck, I could have had my tennis shoes polished. 😁 Bob
  10. We boarded the Discovery Princess in Seattle on the 22nd of May for a 7 day round trip to Alaska. Back in 2019 I found my first Cruising Duck and was hooked on the program. For this cruise I purchased 12 pirate ducks and information tags that I hung around the neck of each duck. The Tag said "Conquackulations! You found a cruising duck. Keep or hide, you decide! But only hide me in public places. Please no shops or pools!" On the back I printed our first names and State, Ship's Name and Date of the cruise. I gave 6 of the ducks to my Daughter who also was on the cruise to hide. Then I started out with hiding the first two in plants around deck 6-7. The 3rd one next to Crooners Bar. The 4th one on deck 16 in a plant next to the glass siding. Duck 5 went in behind the hand rail in a Elevator. And, duck 6 was hidden at the base of the stair hand rail on deck 11. I waited a few hours then went back to check on the ducks. Ducks 1-5 were gone. Later I saw that duck 6 was gone and I found a batman duck from Los Vegas sitting in its place so I "captured" it. Later My wife found one of the tags from one of my ducks tied to the hand rail on deck 11. Just the tag, no duck. Two days later my daughter found a orange duck. I searched long and hard but did not find any other ducks. The rest of the cruise was outstanding. No rain, sunshine and some Brrrr cold wind when we were in Endicott arm heading to the glacier on a small boat tour. Plus the water was so calm that there were no white caps on the small waves. The ship being new, we were the 11th cruise, was very bright and cheerful. And, with only 3,100 passengers the ship did not feel crowded at any time. The staff were prompt with service and friendly. I did notice some changes and things missing from previous cruises, but to a new passenger they would not feel the loss or that they were missing anything. The one thing that did bug me was, that at the gangway when we were departing the ship in port there was no "Be Back By" sign. That was the wrong cut back in my opinion. I did write about that in the end of cruise report that Princess sent me. Now that we are back, it is time to start planning the next Duck Hunt, er, cruise. Bob
  11. We just returned from the Discovery Princess. We were sitting in the theater waiting to board our tour boat for trip up to Endicott Glacier when the Capt announced that he could not go any farther and would be turning around due to pack ice up ahead. Our tour boat zig and zaged through the ice until the last mile or so then pushed through the packed crushed ice. Then entered into clear water in front of the glacier. He had to stay back 1/4 mile for safety reasons. We stay awhile, but no ice chunks fell off while we were there. On the way back we saw a bear on the shore, two harbor seals, one resting on a chunk of floating ice and one swimming. Then saw several Eagle sitting on chunks of ice. And of course, lots of floating ice from very small to very large. Some with Blue Coloring showing. Was a vert pretty day with sun out. But, of course the wind was Brrrr cold with the wind blowing and the boat running adding to cross deck air flow. Bob
  12. No that entry was an error on my part. They posted that they would use the card number on file. The rest was a report on we experienced. BobR
  13. We are scheduled to go out on the Discovery Princess on the 22nd. Two days ago we received a E-Mail from Princess offering a Upsell from our Balcony to a Mini Suite. Their E-Mail said respond to this E-Mail and provide a Credit Card Number, no Phone Number to talk to a Princess Rep. Which kinda indicated that someone at Princess would pick a cabin for us. Which means we could go from a Balcony on deck 10 mid ship to steerage or someplace not appealing. We also had immediate questions such as: If we upsell will that give us a new Confirmation/Reservation number? Will our current list of Perks, OBC, Tours, free peanut butter sandwich, Airline flight, etc also transfer over to the new Reservation Number or will we loose them? So, we bit the bullet and made a call to Princess with the plan we would take turns listening to the Elevator music. Surprise, Surprise we went straight through. However, our regular Rep was out of the office so we talked to a new person. She could only find two open cabins??? We were looking at the ship plans showing multiple cabins on different decks. She said one cabin in the bow and one back in what she called the Purplish area. We thanked her and hung up. We both agreed that taking a chance and then inheriting a serious problem this close to sailing and then having to wait through 5 hours of elevator music with the hopes of getting problem corrected was not worth it. Bob
  14. My suggestion would be enter into the good fight now. After on board, what will you do when the clerk says we have no record of your elite status. 😬 I received a white medallion and called Princes phone number for a live chat. At first the clerk had no idea what the white medallion was for.( I found out later that it is issued for first sailings of a new ship and for several cruises there after) After several questions and some research on her part she gave me an answer that helped me sleep at night, not. That black flag in the center of the medallion represents elite status. We will see when we get on the ship.
  15. I will try to explain what we received. When we selected our cabin we were given a choice of Fare Options. The first choice was called best price ( not listing this because it will be different for cruise length) and the second choice (for us it was 280 USD more) it was advertised as Princess Plus with a few of the added benefits being: Medallionnet Wi-Fi (1-device), Premier drinks with service charge, Premier coffee & Soda (minors only), crew appreciation included, and a free visit to a Restaurant on board (view offer details was printed on bottom of offer). Bob
  16. You-All that was able to use that beloved Ocean Ready program to make early Reservations in a specialty restaurant on your ship are truly lucky. The wife unit treated our daughter and her husband to a cabin on our ship. So, I tried to link them with us and make reservations in the crown grill on the Discovery Princess this month. No go. Hmm must have fumbled thumbed the wrong key. Tried again, the program would ask for my credit card number and then would go blank. Several times later the wife unit said let me do it you must be making the same mistake, right. 😁 So, she tried also with same results. As she walked off I could hear her muttering next cruise will be on a ship without medallion. As a foot note, we signed up for Princess plus which for us included a free visit to a restaurant of our choice. By the time we get on the ship I do believe that they will be booked up. Bob
  17. See my post #18 above. It quickly moved over from Carnival to Princess. Bob
  18. Cruising Ducks got its start in 2015 by a young girl named Abby. She wanted to make people smile so she started out by hiding 50 ducks on a Carnival ship. Today it has a large following on Facebook. Most Ducks will have a passport attached to the duck giving the name of the original person who hide the duck. Some passports have space to add your name and home state before your hide it again. Some People keep the ducks as a souvenir. A game for the young at heart. Bob
  19. Count us as very unhappy with the medallion AP. The wife unit, who normally is totally mellow, has said several times our next cruise will be on a rebuilt military landing barge, IF it does not have medallion. The first day I was struggling to make entries just the right page popped up. Please give us an evaluation of our AP. Put down not very user friendly. Since then we have not been able to make reservations at the Crown Grill for us and our Daughter and her husband who is also coming along with us. Takes the information, then asks for a credit card and then goes blank. 😵 Bob
  20. We will be heading out on the Discovery Princess in a few weeks and I have 12 Cruising ducks with attached Passports ready to go with me. I will hide 6 and give 6 to my my Daughter and her Husband who is going with us to also hide. So, how many of you hunt for ducks while you are on a ship? I found my first duck 4 years ago. I had got up early and was headed to the elevator bank on our deck. Sitting on the hand rail was a duck. I took a photo and left it for someone else to find. For information on hiding ducks: Not on top deck where they could be blown into the ocean, not in pools, not in any shop, and not anywhere that will interfere with the crew doing their duties. Have fun hunting Bob
  21. Wow, three planes flying past in close formation. That is why I always have my camera with me when I am out on the open deck. Bob
  22. As others have said before me, food is subjective. So, here is my story for your entertainment. In 1966 my favorite uncle, Sam that is, provided me an all expense paid trip to a foreign land. That trip of course included meals. Which were served to us in in small cans contained in a card board box which were eaten cold. One night I checked the date of manufacture on the included can opener. It said 1955. 😝 So, on a cruise ship if a waiter sets down a plate in front of me and the contents are burned on the bottom and cold on top I will not complain. Bob
  23. I would like to know if the International Caffe serves a hot breakfast sandwich like is served on other princess ships. It was made with a muffin, Canadian bacon, egg, and a slice of cheese.. thanks Bob
