  1. Cunard has onboard lecturers on their sailing. I have done several TA's from NYC to Europe and they have been so enjoyable. They have a few oceanview solo cabins that are very nice. They have live music all over the ship everyday and ballroom dancing in the Queens Room. They also serve a tea every afternoon that is an experience you must do at least once.
  2. Cunard does a great job with solo and dining tables. When you have fixed dining, they try and put you at a table with all solo travelers. You have the option to share a table or sit by yourself in the main dining room for breakfast and lunch. I try to avoid the buffet as I have found it hard to find a table to share with anyone.
  3. I have enjoyed my solo sailings on Cunard. I know they are pricey but the service and the friendly passengers and crew make up for the cost. They do have several solo cabins that are all oceanview. I like Cunard because the price does not include items that I do not want or use. The activities on board are great from the lectures, movies, live music.
  4. When I was on the QM2 in May there were a dance host couple. They were very active dancing with many of the solo cruisers that wanted to dance. They did a great job making everyone feel welcome. I enjoyed watching the dancers and listening to the music as I am not a dancer.
  5. Terrytdx What did your travel insurance say when you informed that the cruise line finally reimbursed you for your expenses? That happened to me and we had to return the money back to the travel insurance since keeping that money would be insurance fraud. Maybe your insurance is different that what we had but the insurance should only have reimbursed us for the the cruise line did not. Hope you enjoy all your cruises as they sound great.
  6. The chairs in the hallway by illuminations is the one with only chairs and that is the one pictured. The area with the chairs and tables is by the Royal Theatre and the Next Cruise Center.
  7. Stephen Payne was on my TA in May. His lectures were great especially the one on the QM2 and is part in designing the ship. Don't miss any of his lectures. Enjoy the rest of your sailing. Am enjoying your pictures. They are making me want to get back on a ship real soon.
  8. Prayers for the person airlifted off the ship in Haiti. This is the last port I would want to be airlifted from as you will be taken to the hospital in Dominican Republic. Hope they are doing well and getting the medical attention they need. I agree the price of water is outrageous.
  9. They do not advertise them. You must ask for them.
  10. MCC Retired Not sure why you were told that. Did you speak with Charlotte or the new gentlemen that is just training for this position.
  11. I purchased one on QM2 last week. $300 USD good for 4 years.
  12. I just had 5127 on QM2 and I sat on my balcony most days. You do have to stand to see the water but it sure is nice to sit and read your book and smell the sea air. I always book a sheltered cabin as they protect you from the wind and rain.
  13. Have a great time on this sailing. Hope the QM2 passes all the tests with flying colors and is ready for me to board on Sunday.
  14. It would only be on your husband as he was the only one in isolation. Hope you are able to get some answers. Hope everyone is on the road to recovery.
  15. I have used Allianz and TravelEx and had no issues with claims. Before you purchase a policy make sure you read the small print. The policy should not only include medical but also trip interruption and emergency medical. That should cover your hotels, meals, and transportation in the city/town where you or your spouse are receiving treatment. They should even cover your plane tickets home. If you call the number it is possible they will even book your flights and find your hotel.
  16. She will be up and running for the sailing on May 7according to Cunard. Enjoy both you sailings and don't worry about the ship.
  17. Sorry for everyone that had a vacation disrupted by the cancellations. The ship will not be traveling to NYC on the 27th. When I called Cunard I was able to book a flight to Southampton to join the fjord and transatlantic segments on May 7. I am disappointed to miss the first transatlantic but am excited to complete the remaining segments.
  18. That is good to hear that more people are dressing up on formal nights. That was always the highlight of our cruises. I loved seeing my husband dressed in his tux and me in my long dresses as we do not get to dress like that at home. I still take my long dresses and wear them as I do not care what others are wearing. I wonder if some of the passenger are embarrassed on formal night when all the table is dressed to the nines and there they are in the gym shorts and t shirts.
  19. I have filed some claims for reimbursement and had no issues with getting them paid. The first thing I do is call the emergency number on your insurance ID card and inform them of your accident and they make a record of. Once I got all the payments from my medical insurance I took them and finalized the travel insurance claim.
  20. I always buy travel/medical insurance when I travel. My medicare and my supplemental plan cover foreign travel except for a $250.00 deductible. I purchased an annual travel plan this year since I have several different trips planned and it was cheaper than individual plans. Glad you Mom is doing well and hope you get to travel again.
  21. I will also be watching the arrival time of QM2 in NYC on April 30th. My check in time is later than I would normally check in. I wonder if that has anything to do with the departure time. Hope they will notify us of any changes before we head to the ship.
  22. Just remember when you sail on other lines you will not get this service. I know I have to reset my mindset so I am not disappointed.
  23. My last cruise on Cunard and it also was my first solo sailing. Cunard did a wonderful job of putting me with solos at a table for 6. We all got along great and met for pre dinner drinks or went to the shows after dinner. It was a great experience for me and made this such an easy transition from being a couple to sailing solo. You will figure out your likes and go from there.
  24. I sail on many different cruise lines and when I book them, I am happy with the price I paid. I have gotten some price reductions before final payment and also refused the new offer. You have to remember when you ask for a price reduction, the perks you get are the ones available now. Your price may have dropped $500 but you lost a $$ OBC, free specialty dinner. So when you are checking prices remember to consider the cost of what you are losing and subtract that from the price reduction. Enjoy your cruise.
  25. I got several pieces of Royal mail last week. It makes me feel very important when they show up and also make the sailings so much more real.
