  1. So many options, one cruise is certainly not enough. Yet, once in a lfetime? A cruise as long as possible. Athens with the Acropolis and Rome with the Vatican as the places defining European civilisation. For a cruise line why not choose a European one? For more flavour. Eg. Italian MSC.
  2. Sorrento is the lowest key option, the Amalfi Coat the most spectacular, but you have been there, Naples the most interesting in Terme of culture and sights. The main street in the older part is full of churches, beautiful cloisters and such. Gold, glasses and other artefacts from Pompeji can be found in museum. And more.
  3. Do you ask about the ferry or the destination? The ferry Trip to Sorremto is probably nicer, as destination Capri has so much more to offer.
  4. It says so for a long time but I never experienced this to be enforced, just for the guests in one cabin.
  5. Thank you @stephenSJ. Nice alternative.
  6. Do not worry. It is no pain of any kind (if one knows, as you do, that one needs to use them). Rather simpler than using an ATM. It saves overall a lot of time at check in.
  7. If it is just about the feeling: Do all the things you like and enjoy them. Enjoy the taste and texture of your food without the distraction of a conversation. Soak in the atmosphere of eg. the beautiful lounge with great music without somebody taking your attention away by talking.
  8. This and the one about standing in line are also excellent advice for people who are shy to approach fellow guests just for a chat, without obvious reason: There you have plenty of reasons for a casual remark.
  9. Even without attending these specific solo events I found guests on Cunard to be the most sociable ones. Yet, I met great people to bond with on other lines, too. Often it really came down to the good old shared, fixed seating table.
  10. Sometimes there a stars observations are offered as activity. For those the lights in that particulare part of the deck are shut off. Of course this comes with a lot of warnings and "on your own risk", seemingly unfortunately necessary due to the above stated litigation culture. Otherwise I find it nowaday hard to find a dark spot. Your own balcony might even be the best option.
  11. More often the other way around is more problematic: To bring food from the ship into port due to the local health protocols just like in the States. Anyway you normally find the information about each specific port's restrictions, if applicable, in the daily paper.
  12. Indeed Livorno itself has its fair share of churches, a fortress, museums and such. There are (used to be) self guided walking tours available from the the tourist information. Likewise I second to look for what you might not have seen in Pisa as I do not know how much time you have spent here. There are enough sights for at least three days.
  13. The site of the QM2 is already limiting the ports visited and it might do even more in the future with changing rules and legislation. Thus I would opt ceteris paribus for the QV.
  14. The last super is not in the cathedrale, the duomo! It is in the refectory of S. Maria della Grazie. These are different locations.
  15. Let's say there are people who prefer a private island as in "an island" others an amusement park that happens to be located on an island. To each his own.
  16. What a sad behaviour. @RJChatsworth, I wish you a quick and full recovery. Thank you for all your time and effort to keep us informed about your time on the Queen.
  17. There are (were?) some boat tours starting at the port. In the town itself there are a local museum, a cathedrale and some more sights.
  18. Did you try different browsers and a total restart? The site seems to be accesssible in principle.

    DIY Genoa

I would recommend to visit at least one of the palaces. As often in Italy the street front is only a small hinter of the splendours to be found inside or even in the "back yard".
  20. I am sorry for you and hope you all will recover soon. The attitude you experienced is worrisome. Regarding only you were required to go into quarantine: This seems to be standard procedure on most cruiseline now. Read older posts about the outcry of negetative tested people when restrictions were imposed on them. All the best.
  21. I undetstand your concern about too many people walking through, der maybe a good old sign "acccess for ... only" will do.
  22. Isn't is fascinating 😉, how different the ways can be people enjoy travelling. Hit and quit - sounds terrible to me if not even ignorant but if this your life style - enjoy travelling they way you want. Others obviously enjoy the world in a different way - may they enjoy, too. Re cruises this shows that one must try to find out what the individual preferences are. We all (hopefully) give advice to our best knowledge.
  23. How disappointing. I feel for you.
  24. Or listen to the available audioguide (app) in your phone.
