  4. Actually, I had read both posts, before commenting. While I found the original blunt (and not the way I would frame the question) along with a feeble attempt at humor about heat, I did not feel it was particularly argumentative. I think his response to you tried to indicate that. Different folks read different tones into comments, some of which may or may not have been intended by the poster.
  5. In my feeble memory, I recall thin wall complaints only for Veranda staterooms, but don't recall folks in PHs reporting such problems, with possible exception of adjoining staterooms. Does anyone have know if folks in PHs report from the same malady as the Verandas? I may have missed them
  6. This is not meant to come across as argumentative, but how does one infer the tone of a written comment on social media? Is it not often the reader's personal inferrence, which may or may not represent the writer's intent. I do see tone sometimes suggested by the addition of an obviously unnecessary dig to a legitimate comment or question, but I wonder how much unimplied tone we as readers read into a written comment which is absent of the nuances of spoken conversation. Some folks are just more blunt or are awkward communicators, without meaning to be argumentative, and leave their comments open to the readers interpretation of their intent. Just asking as a generic question about communication via social media...perhaps awkwardly 🙂.

  8. In addition to @ORV's observations...even if they could finagle purchasing through a US TA, I would guess that they would likely lose the travel protections the UK requires of their TAs.

  10. Understood...we aren't day drinkers either. My concern is that without the "only in the stateroom" caveat, the first-timers looking for information may assume your comment implies otherwise.
  11. Check-in time and when the stateroom is ready are not the same. You can check-in then go onboard and have lunch, or read a good book, until the your stateroom is ready.
  12. I don't think the issue is with tickets bought on miles. Generally, the mileS and taxes have been refunded. The issue is with ticket bought with $. In this case, the airlines bulk at refunds for any reason, unless you have purchased a refundable ticket. Airlines are upfront about it (and there are rare examples of when special exceptions can be made , and refunds are not permitted. The more insidious rule, is that any credit for future use must be used within one year of the purchase date, not one one year from the cancelled flight date. This rule really hits folks who purchase early To get a good fare.
  13. Don't be so sure, especially if you haven't sailed Azamara recently. We're Oceania regulars (not 25 as you), but took a recent Azamara cruise around New Zealand because of the itinerary. We had low expectations, but in the end Azamara was more or less on par with Oceania's R-ships. In some case O bested A, but in others, A bested O. In all cases they weren't so different as your comment would suggest. We were pleasantly surprised and have scheduled another Azamara cruise to supplement our Oceania cruises...because of itinerary and our experience on the NZ cruise.
  14. Aren't the airlines the ones that should be trageted, rather than the cruise line. Shouldn't' they be forced to give a full refund if the reason for cancellation is not the whim of the passengers, but because the cruise is cancelled? I think the airlines feel they are entitled to keep your money even if you were forced by other trip circumstances. Wishful thinking🙄
  15. I think she thought that O was like the larger lines where you pointed out that you may have the option to book an available cabin or a guarantee at the same level at a lower price.

I would think that if you wanted a specific cabin category on a cruise you really wanted to go on because of the price and itinerary, and it was only available as a guarantee and you didn't want to pay the price of available cabins, then it would make sense to book a guarantee as long as you didn't care about location.
  17. If a cabin in the desired category is available, you can't do a guarantee. If a cabin in the desired category is not available, you can book a guarantee at the normal price. The alternative is to book a higher level category at a higher price. So the price savings is the difference between the cost of an available higher level cabin and know what you get, and the lower level cabin cabin level and not know what you get. The real decision is whether you want the lower, guaranteed cabin price and be guaranteed a cabin or want to pay more for one that is not guaranteed. There is no savings if you get assigned the cabin level you guaranteed, but you are guaranteed to get a cabin at that guaranteed price. So the question is do you want to pay a guaranteed price and not be able to choose your cabin or do you want to pay a higher price for a higher category and get to choose your cabin.
  18. Guaranee means you are guaranteed to get onboard. Waitlist makes no such promise.

Except for cruises, and the occassional land tour, we do our own stuff: airline reservations, tours, hotels, etc. But for cruises, we have an exceptional TA who only does cruises and has a relationship with Oceania...she also books us on other lines and provides the same exceptional service.
  22. I'd call my TA and let her figure it out and get the time line for replacement bookings. You will get refunded, but our TA would expidite the process.
  23. I'm guessing that on Vista, a single, 3 course, Jacques menu rotates daily (I didn’t count how many rotations), while on the other ships, there are 3 static Jacques entrees daily. Perhaps the other ships will transition to the Vista routine.
