Excursions: how long to get to place of pick-up?
CGinMTL replied to BobbiSox's topic in Holland America Line
Go to your roll call. If you do not feel comfortable booking private excursions, chances are somebody will be doing it and will need to fill a van Make sure you get daily notifications as these spots usually go fast I always trust that my fellow traveler has done homework, if it is good enough for them, and that is what I wanted to do, I book it. Rick Steves is also a good resource for Europe -
Can I switch an excursion payment method to OBC once onboard?

This is what we did for our cruise next week. I booked the cruise directly from Hal in cad as my TA could not match the exchange rate. Also prepaid gratuites.

Seems I can even see boarding pass on the app on airplane mode ( great to avoid roaming ) or if you do not have data . We do also have paper copies

Here's why someone on NCL told me to not cruise on Celebrity
CGinMTL replied to Sigyn's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Agree. My last NCL was 2018. It really does not fit my personality -
Also, kids are cheaper when 3rd and 4th pax. Not sure if there is a way to reshuffle that says money that way. This scenario is a good example of better to ask the pros when making this kind of decision

Found it available at public library. Will pick it up this week Thank you

I don't know if it was a special I booked Hal directly and asked them to give me fare in usd and cad. Rate was good, so booked cad. Then went to the check-in process, same thing , so prepaid whatever I could in cad

I booked about a month ago, Hal was giving Canadians a very favorable exchange rate. So I prepaid my gratuity. You may want to go compare rates and see if it is worth paying. I also bank with RBC and was able to get a usd credit card. ( And a usd account ) and no extra fee. This gives me options when I travel

The thrifty cruisers Canada/New England review 4/29-5/6

I did this sailing many years ago, the worst of it will be where the st Lawrence River meets the Atlantic. The rest was pretty decent . I always have ginger pills ( just in case ) The house brand at Walmart is the one I usually get -
Ok somebody mentioned puffins and now I’m interested
CGinMTL replied to spleenstomper's topic in Canada/New England
I was also wanting to see a puffin on my transatlantic cruise Then years later , I visited the biodome and there it was. Everybody was looking at the penguins, and I was looking at the puffin right next door Hihi -
Tipping in Canada and USA has become ridiculous. There was a story this week about a woman asked to tip at a retail store after buying dog food I admit, I am getting tipping fatigue and I think that the people that actually earn a ( tipping wage) will end up being penalized because of it We need to do like UK and Australia . Have a decent wage and no tipping There was another article with a waiter and a bartender . Both still agreed that the 15 % tip was still acceptable And let's remember that the meal that used to cost 10/15 is now btw 15/20 Therefore even with the same %. You have still increased the $$

Canada is fluid btw imperial and metric. I think it is because we are close to USA Ex as a 50 yr old Canadian I know my height and weight only in imperial Temp. Work both ways Groceries . More likely to order in lbs Liquid . We go both ways I think you will be fine in metric eveywhere -
A few comments I wish it would be harder for people to remove tips If you have never complained about any service, how can you justify zero tip If people would need some kind of signature from each dept. There would be less removals Also, we are taking a family cruise at the end of the month HAL exchange rate for cad was very good, so we decided to prepay We have a 2 yr old and a 6 month old with us The 2 year old was a no brainer that we would pay tips When I asked my daughter what she would do for the baby, the answer was clear, I am not going to save $150 ( cad) on the back of crew members. I was proud of her answer

The cab is flat fee , indépendant of number of people or bags Uber is not And there are a lot of detours and construction in Montreal Something to think about when making your decisions
