  1. Probably not. I wish the police in my area would show more of a presence. There were only three murders here last night in Jackson, Mississippi. Slow night for the thugs. I felt much safer in Mexico than here in Mississippi. Yes....you do see widespread police very heavily armed here and there. Wish they were here as well.
  2. Companion and I just returned from a two week visit to Mexico. San Miguel de Allende and Guadalajara. Felt very safe travelling in that part of central Mexico. Over 10,000 Americans live in San Miguel. Over 100,000 Americans live in the Guadalajara area. Cozumel and Costa Maya are tourist traps. Not real Mexico but safer than where you live. The main danger is drinking too much tequila and missing your ship.
  3. Going down the River is the best part of the cruise for us and one of the main reasons we booked it. Interesting even down towards the mouth of the River. The huge ship goes through the channel at a very past pace with many sharp turns. You can almost reach out and touch the channel markers, while sailing past the hundreds of oil rigs in the distance. Some people find these sharp turns cause motion sickness.
  4. Excellent advice....that some learn the hard way.
  5. We were in New Orleans this past weekend (not cruise related) and left on Sunday. Some of the Interstate on the way to the airport was at a standstill for about 45 minutes, maybe due to construction???? I personally would not plan to fly out before mid afternoon.
  6. Terrace Cafe has excellent food and was my favorite on the Riviera. No self serve. We never had to wait for anything. Always plenty of tables open...on our cruise at least. The grill station is outstanding with the huge shrimp being my favorite. We met another couple who on a previous cruise ate at the Terrace Cafe 33 nights of their 35 night cruise.
  7. I thought it was worth the extra price.........but new to Norwegian. Anyway, we booked a club balcony on the Breakaway for February sailing. We shall see. Will post my opinion after we get back.
  8. On our cruise on The Riviera in April we had reservations in one of the specialty restaurants the last night but cancelled and ate at The terrace Cafe instead. Quicker, easier and turned out to be one of the best meals we had on the cruise.
  9. Thanks for posting the activities, etc onboard. Greatly appreciated. We will be on the Breakaway in February and look forward to it.
  10. What night is The Rumors show usually scheduled? Did not want to reserve one of the speciality restaurants on that night. Thank you.
  11. We used one of the car services that contract with private drivers and had excellent service from Trieste to Venice. Be wary of pickpockets on the vaporettos. Caught an older, very well dressed, attractive lady with her hands in my pocket in the line to get on a vaporetto. Naively, thought she was grabbing for something else. Later realized she was after my wallet........and did not get it.
  12. Logged into our Oceania account a few months back and requested they reduce the number of mailings. They did, but maybe was done for everyone. Viking and Silversea have more than made up for the reduced mail. Crazy how much slick, expensive garbage these companies send out. Must work or they would not keep mailing it.
  13. You will regret not booking a balcony on an Alaskan cruise. Much to see. But.......guess depends on what you want to see. A balcony gives you much more potential outside time. Might be cold so bring jackets, gloves, hat, etc. Also binoculars.
  14. We were in a Cove on another ship. Loved it. Great being that close to the water. Had no noise issues.
  15. I would feel less stress with a later flight. As in much later. Probably can be done but I have sat in the parking lots that are called Houston Interstates too many times. Good luck.
  16. Took the shuttle bus (cost a few dollars) from the dock into downtown, walked around the beautiful city. Went to a nice restaurant on the ocean front and had a great meal with some local beer. Had a good time. Took the shuttle bus back to the dock. Short visit but enjoyed it and thought it was worth the effort. Looked like a place I would like to return to for a few days.
  17. Good review. Thank you for posting a positive and enjoyable account of your sailing. Glad you had a good time and hope to sail with you one day.
  18. A great feature of Cruise Critic is the "IGNORE" button that you can click on and block people and not see their posts. Sometimes doing so makes these boards more enjoyable and informative.
  19. Good words........and advice that will fall on deaf ears.
  20. Thanks for the detailed review. We were on The Riviera in April and enjoyed the cruise. Never sat foot in the MDR but maybe just as well according to you. Definitely enjoyed room service breakfast brought by our butler every morning. We had excellent food every meal but did not have lobster. Did not notice anyone wearing, horrors of all horrors, jeans but not important to us.
  21. The 'rolling' motion felt sometimes leaving and sailing into Seattle can be disturbing to many people. The Pacific Ocean merges with two seas which causes conditions, usually not choppy, but with large swells. Some people not usually prone to sea sickness can be affected by the slow roll. I took bonine and was not affected, but glad I did.
  22. Great review and pictures. You like your cabin colder than I do. At 64 degrees I would have on thermal underwear, gloves and a heavy coat. Different strokes for different folks.
  23. We were on The Riviera in April, toured The Vatican shoulder to shoulder with what seemed like one million other people, etc. etc. Never wore a mask. Came home healthy. Couple of weeks later my wife went to a small club meeting that was held mainly outside and one of the members gave Covid to the entire group. Wife gave it to me and then to our daughter and family before realizing she was sick. Even their cat caught it. We were all very sick, down for the count for about ten days. I still have not fully recovered. We are all vaccinated and boosted. Point I am trying to make is that Covid is out there and is terrifyingly contagious. Assume we will all get it probably several more times. Just hope it is a "mild" case. We have trips planned, cruises booked and never wear masks. Life goes on.
