  1. A raincoat would be essential, probably, no matter what the weather. Around the glaciers it could be very cold. Hat, gloves and a good coat that broke the wind felt good. If you do not bring one the ship, or a store on land, will be more than glad to sell you one.
  2. Not sure if they are a "broker" but all of their vehicles that we saw, and saw several, were company painted GoOpti vehicles. Gathered that at least some of the drivers were independent, similar to UBER, but were driving company vehicles. Whatever they were, they provided us with good service from start to finish.
  3. In April we used GoOpti for a transfer from the port in Trieste to Venice. Private transfer for wife and I was 174 Euro. No complaints. Good web site. Driver did not speak much English but arrived early and took care of our luggage. When we return to this part of the world would use this company again.
  4. Oceania (owned by Norwegian) has a version of "Chefs Table". Sounded like too much food for us to eat when we were on The Riviera in April. Perhaps sour grapes as we could not get reservations anyway. Cost about $100 per person.
  5. Seems like excellent advise and will use it. You got me at "while sitting at the bar".
  6. Sounds like good wine ??? to look forward to as we have a Club Balcony booked also.
  7. We have checked our luggage with the porters a couple of times in New Orleans on another cruise line and then gone to the French Quarter for the day. Probably lucky to stumble back to the ship but we were the only people in line for a late check-in. We ended a cruise on another cruise line in Trieste in April. We were on a much smaller ship (1200 passengers) and looked to me they were stretched to the limit. Be advised this is a very small port that was not designed to handle a big ship. The potential for long lines should be expected. I saw no sign of porters as we left. Trieste looked to be a very nice city to explore. Nothing too exciting across the street from the port but a short taxi ride would provide some nice places to see. If, when we ever leave or arrive from Trieste again we plan to spend at least one night there.
  8. Considering first cruise on Norwegian on the Breakaway. Recently, as things seemed to have changed on all cruise lines in the last couple of years, are there robes in in the balcony suites? Not Haven, just regular suites. Thank you.
  9. Potential first time cruiser on Norwegian. On other cruise lines we had no problem IF we had wine leftover and they brought us the bottle the next night. Does this happen on Norwegian?
  10. Appreciate all of the replies and information. Would probably prefer a regular coffee maker instead of a Nespresso machine but sure we can make do. Might even learn to prefer it.
  11. We recently arrived in Trieste on another cruise line and a MUCH smaller ship. No way you will make your 11:00 AM flight. Not possible and we took a private car. No reason to be afraid of staying in this area or taking a taxi. Very safe and VERY scenic. There are hotels close to the Venice airport.
  12. First time planning a cruise on Norwegian. Probably next February. Are coffee makers available in suites on The Breakaway? Greatly appreciate info from recent cruisers. Thank you.
  13. We were in 10022 about a month ago. Never heard a sound from anywhere.
  14. On The Riviera in April in a PH2 we had our butler deliver breakfast every morning. Never received a phone call. He would knock at exactly the time requested.
  15. We went through the Amsterdam airport about a month ago. Very stressful experience. Had a 3 hour layover. Very large and very confusing airport, at least for us. Much walking involved. The "passport control" lines were long but moved quickly. Make sure you get in the correct line, which was not obvious to us. Had to ask fellow passengers as no assistance available. We were told our luggage was checked to our final destination by KLM in Venice. By chance we found out in Amsterdam that we had to retrieve our luggage from the merry go round and walk it about 100 feet and place it on another conveyor belt. Otherwise it would not leave the airport and arrive in Houston on a KLM flight. Not sure if this would apply to you......but. I would highly recommend doing as much research as possible on this airport before arrival. Would be greatly beneficial. Ended up we had enough time but at first we were wondering if we would make it or not. Was stressful. The KLM lounge in the International terminal was nice with better than average food and wine, at least when we were there. Did not have much time to enjoy it but worth stopping by.
  16. We were on The Riviera for the April 7 cruise. Our first time on Oceania. There was no reception for first time cruisers that we were told about or aware of. The large majority of passengers seemed to be repeat customers. Perhaps they did not have enough "first timers" to have a reception.
  17. I bought cruise ship stock for the OBC, and have enjoyed it.
  18. If you like being close to the water, you will love a Cove balcony. I did.
  19. We were on the Riviera a month ago and departed from Civitavecchia. We were in a Penthouse Suite. We arrived at the port about noon with very few people there. At this point we realized we were on a very different cruise line. There are no lines or waiting. You may not be able to get into your cabin if you arrive early but looked like to me you should be able to get on the ship at any time, within reason.
  20. For those of us, maybe, technologically behind the times.............is 20 MPS good, bad, fast???
  21. Three weeks ago on The Riviera the lump sum gratuities were added to our account about three days before the end of the cruise.
  22. Probably show my ignorance, but what are "silent sales" and how do I take advantage of them? Thank you.
  23. The debarkation process was a piece of cake. Basically, just walked off the ship. We left the ship about an hour AFTER our assigned time. We were in zone 3, I assume because we were in a Penthouse Suite. There were still a few people leaving the ship after us. There is a very obvious pickup point for private transfers, taxis, etc. Very close to the dock. This is a very small port so no problem there at all. Probably the smallest, and easiest port I have ever been to. Just no place to wait inside. Next time I would request a transfer about an hour after debarkation.
