  1. Broken? In what way? Not heard of that. They are made of reinforced concrete and steel pile construction. There are actually two connected piers that can handle four ships in two different docking directions at once. IMO any damage preventing a docking would have to be to the main connecting pier from the mainland, and as mentioned, I can find nothing indicating that. The currents and winds there can be strong and can pose a challenge to docking, depending on wind direction and docking pier. To me that would seem to be the more likely reason for a missed port of call there. We have never missed a port of call there but have been on ships that have had to deal with strong wind conditions when docking and departing.
  2. I'm far more fearful of setting foot in any of the major US cities at present than I am of visiting Cozumel. And I think the concerns in Haiti and potential effect with Labadee have been rather well substantiated since RCCL has suspended that port of call at present. JMO
  3. Just to be clear on this person's form of dementia, as there are various forms exhibiting various symptoms: ....he was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a group of diseases caused by progressive nerve cell loss that affects a person’s behavior and not memory. Further: Frontotemporal disorders (FTD), sometimes called frontotemporal dementia, are the result of damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. Many possible symptoms can result, including unusual behaviors, emotional problems, trouble communicating, difficulty with work, or difficulty with walking. But most importantly I just hope he can be found and that his family can find some comfort.
  4. I believe it is free in port and for a fee at sea (with reservations needed) All the others you mention also require reservations.
  5. Thanks for the update and correction, and that wouldn't surprise me. As I said my info goes back a few years.
  6. The last information I have, which is several years dated, is the only fee-based kids programs are the late night party zone, which is $7 per hour per child from 10PM - 1 AM, and the royal babies and tots drop off nursery, which is $6 per hour per child during the day and $8 at night. If this is incorrect and someone has updated information perhaps they can provide it.
  7. In 1991 I was in Puerto Rico on one of, at the time, frequent business trips there and was fortunate enough to have my wife with me on that particular trip. We were in Old San Juan for dinner and afterwards strolled by the OSJ piers where RCCL Sovereign of the Seas was docked. We were completely blown away with (at the time) her size, design, and elegance that we looked at each other and both said at the same time, one day we will be on her ourselves. A year later in late August of 1992 I surprised her with what was then our tenth anniversary with a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise. This was to be our first of 50+ over then next 32 years. As impressed as we have been with numerous newly launched RCCL and Celebrity ships over the years since, Sovereign, as the ship that launched our cruising world, by far remains the most impressive to us.
  8. Interesting shot in the background of the NCL ship at their private island, Great Stirrup Cay, just across from CocoCay.
  9. Yes, everything is per person, but based on double occupancy as both of you would need to buy it. I believe champagnes are only included in the premium package. Here is a pdf describing the two packages: Celebrity drink packages.pdf Something to consider would be to determine the cost of how often you would order a drink made from a premium package selected alcohol with an upcharge over the classic package versus the upgrade cost for both of you over the length of the cruise. If the upcharge is as you indicate at $24 per day, over a 7-day cruise that would be $168 versus how much by comparison would you pay on a per drink upcharge over that same period?
  10. No. Both of you have to upgrade if one does. It is to prevent the opportunity of sharing the premium package.
  11. It should. Ours was reinstated same time with the new purchase. If you used OBC to purchase the original package that is what is credited when canceling to purchase the new one. You also can call and have a rep do it for you, which we have done before, and the transactions are simultaneous. (The OBC was reinstated so as to facilitate the new purchase).
  12. The process is very easy and as @PTC DAWG suggests OBC is reinstated quickly. Buy now, watch for a better price and if so, cancel and rebook - no penalty. You can do this up to 3 says prior to sailing.
  13. My understanding is the Celebrity website has undergone some significant updates which perhaps are not yet completed which may be resulting in the inability to open the website. Having the same issue with the app.
  14. It doesn't matter if you have paid in full prior to the final payment date - the actual final payment date is what matters. Any amount you paid above your deposit prior to the actual final payment date is refundable to you or transferrable to a new booking. If you booked under a refundable deposit fare, you can change or cancel a booking at anytime prior to final payment without deposit penalty. Canceling will return your deposit (and any other money paid) to you, or can be transferred in full to a new booking. If you booked under a non-refundable deposit fare, changes made to the booking prior to final payment will result in a (typically) $100 per person change fee. If you cancel the booking altogether you will loose your full deposit amount. Any money paid prior to final payment above your deposit amount will be returned to you, or can be transferred in full to a new booking. You can transfer a booking to a travel agent up to 30 days from the date of booking. A changed booking would also have to fall under that original timeline. If you cancel and rebook as a new reservation, the clock starts then with the new booking.
  15. I know that Celebrity indicates a 90-day opening window but I don't believe that is firm and can vary with each itinerary based on bookings, etc. But using the link, as you indicate, over time is a way to confirm availability when MoveUp actually opens on a given itinerary.
  16. I think you'll be running close odds of there being a number of children on board. For a number of reasons for many years that timeframe fit our cruising options and by choice RCCL fit well with our children. And with many of those cruises in and around Easter our children had plenty of company on board. That was then and now the opposite reasons has us cruising primarily with Celebrity. Hope it works out for you!
  17. You don't indicate whether you are looking to have a lot of children on board then, or are trying to void that. RCCL's primary demographics is families, and their ships are designed to cater to that market. So the opportunity for a significant number of children is present on most itineraries, particularly those in the summer and weeks including the holidays, as that is their target. If that is something you are looking for as a family with children, then I would expect that the time around Easter will definitely satisfy that. If you are looking to avoid that, then I would suggest a different time or a different cruise line, such as Celebrity for one, that caters to adults with a lower likelihood of children on board.
  18. I guess I would keep trying or perhaps call Celebrity and ask them to assist. If for some reason your booking is not eligible they should be able to confirm and hopefully explain.
  19. ...and as those would primarily be sea days, plenty of avoidance opportunity. Not saying your comments aren't correct, but rerouting may avoid the storm if one is of concern. It's also too far in advance to predict anything other than possibilities. If this is of great enough personal concern, just don't book the cruise. Otherwise, just hope that the odds stay in your favor for any given date and itinerary.
  20. I am not familiar with that response. But the comments regarding the travel agent IMO do not mean you had to book through one, just if you did they must be a participating agency, which excluding big box retailers, most are. Here is the link I provided in an earlier response. Enter your last name and booking number and try there: https://www.celebritycruises.com/bid-on-cruise-room-upgrade
  21. Yes and yes. There are no booking guidelines or stateroom limitations regarding MoveUp. The only restriction I am aware of is with big box booking sources where many are not eligible.
  22. While typically following an Easter holiday schedule, spring break weeks can vary and our experience has been that the timeframe prior to, during, and after Easter can be "children heavy". Keep in mind spring breaks include colleges as well. But in your case it may very well be less "congested" as Easter week would likely be heaviest.
  23. Hurricane season just means that conditions are correct for storms to develop and therefore they can. But it is not a guarantee that they will at any given location or time. Others have covered the subject so I won't repeat those other than to say that Aruba and Curacao are south of the hurricane zone and severe storms there are extremely rare. Given the bulk of your planned itinerary I would not be concerned. We have been very fortunate I guess over our 32 years of cruising with a number of Caribbean itineraries in the peak of hurricane season with none impacting us to date. Certainly doesn't mean they can't or won't, however. But that typically doesn't dictate our plans.
  24. Typically you have to be signed up with Celebrity to receive marketing and other promotional emails from them to automatically get an email inviting you to MoveUp with your booking. Go to this link and submit your last name and reservation number to confirm if you are eligible. https://www.celebritycruises.com/bid-on-cruise-room-upgrade
