  1. First, we are not allowed to name or suggest travel agents. I presume you are dealing with on-line or internet agencies. Maybe a local brick and mortar store where you can sit down with a real person would be more to your liking. A local TA may not be able to give you the same deal (i.e. $$$) as a big on-line agency, but may be able to help you navigate the process and answer your concerns.
  2. I would cruise with them again. Different itinerary would be preferred. Some of the stops in the great lakes are very small towns and not a lot to see or do.
  3. Just got off the Pearl Mist last week. They use the same interior designer as the American cruise line ships. The interiors are just like the new ACL ships. Cabins and public areas were all renovated. The way both lines operate is very similar. The biggest difference is the staff. The ACL staff is all young and inexperienced US citizens. A waiter on ACL with two months service is a veteran! On Pearl, many of the staff has been there since the ship launched in 2014. Most of the staff is from the Philippines and are real pros.
  4. Just got off of Pearl Mist. It was NOT built in the US, but in Canada. The crew is primarily from the Philippines, so couldn't be registered in the USA for both reasons. The USA built ACL ships never leave the US. I'm sure there are many confusing legal reasons the two lines are kept separate. They don't share loyalty programs. The only overlap, you can book an ACL cruise while on Pearl Mist and vis-a-versa. .
  5. Will probably be a lot of other singles. Won’t take long for all of you to figure out who is single, so you can join them for dinner.
  6. Not just sure excursions. A few years ago went on a cruise departing Amelia Island. Researched where the port was and discovered a Hampton Inn hotel a block away from the pier. Booked a room at that hotel many months before the cruise. Fast forward I receive my cruise information package from ACL. In the little booklet they provide they recommended a Hampton Inn across the street from the pier. At first I assumed it was the same Hampton Inn. After looking at the address I realized that they were recommending a Hampton Inn on the opposite side of the island about 6 miles away. I did contact ACL and let them know of the error.
  7. Dress is always casual. No formal nights newer ships have self serve laundry machines that are free and they provide soap and dryer sheets. no lifeboats- you are always very close to shore, so not required. no idea about hotels some excursions are free, some are premium with a cost.
  8. Depends on the ship. Some of the ships have self-service laundry and the cruise line provides soap.
  9. Never been in Owners Suite, so don’t know about tub/shower. They have 4 or 5 classes of ships, so it may be different on each class. Alcohol- beer and wine at lunch and dinner. Open bar at happy hour before dinner. Usually can get drinks after dinner during entertainment hour. Soda, water, juice available 24/7, self serve. some excursions are included. Premium excursions have a modest cost. Free internet. Precruise hotel included on some itineraries, not included on others (think it depends on what competition is doing). Airfare usually not included unless they are having a special deal. Don’t think you can compare ACL to Regent.
  10. My agent asks for a copy of the photo page from your passport. Willing to bet one or 2% of the time people send a passport page showing that the passport is expired. Agents in tour operators want to catch this before the customer tries to get on an airplane.
  11. Stayed at a Hampton Inn across the street from the pier. Maybe they would let you leave your car there for a few days. 19 S 2nd St, Amelia Island.
  12. My girlfriend loves the cruise choirs. They did not have one on my recent five day summit cruise. Maybe it was just too short a trip.
  13. Just of Summit no free drinks 5-7 at Martini Bar or Al Bachio. All other bars are ok.
  14. After extensive testing this year, American Cruise Lines is pleased to announce that Starlink satellite internet is being added across the fleet. All ships are equipped with satellite internet and will sail into 2023 with high-speed, consistent, and complimentary WiFi. Starlink is powered by a constellation of lower earth orbit (LEO) satellites that provide a stable connection to our constantly moving ships. Guests who have experienced the Starlink platform during testing this past year responded with rave reviews. Consistent with American Cruise Lines’ all-inclusive cruise package, high-speed WiFi will be complimentary on all vessels. We look forward to sailing with you in 2023.
  15. Looks like the feedback from their customers was taken to heart by American cruise lines. They have just announced that they will be adding a star link Wi-Fi system to all of their ships. This is a satellite based system now being used by some of the larger cruise lines. They also indicated that the Wi-Fi is included at no additional charge.
  16. The menu for Elite drinks shows ODouls.
  17. I think it is a decision the captain makes, not a corporate policy.
  18. You will probably be the youngest people on the ship. The average age on ACL is probably about 70. Very different than cruising on some of the larger cruise ships. No pools, no casino, no specialty restaurants. entertainment is very limited. After dinner there will either be a musical presentation with a trio or duet or possibly a lecture. No flashy shows like on the big ships.
  19. Cruise was good. Although northern Mississippi is low, not as bad as lower. Our cruise was not impacted by water levels. Arrived at each port either on time or early. half the passengers stayed at a hotel in Alton, near the pier. About a week before the cruise, ACL moved about 1/2 the passengers to a hotel in St Louis, a block way from the Arch. Much better than Alton! ACL busses picked us up in downtown St Louis and took us on a tour of Alton (home of worlds tallest man at 8-11) before taking us to the boat. After the cruise the busses took us to MSP airport. Bus left the ship in Redwing at 7:30am.
  20. Another fact to consider. Your cruise is not from St. Paul to St. Louis. Your cruise will start in Redwing Minnesota and end in Alton Illinois. Redwing is about an hour south of the MSP airport and Alton is about 30 minutes north of St. Louis.
  21. Just finished the same cruise in the reverse direction. I know the ship travels faster downstream than upstream, so you will probably spend more time in Port than we did going northbound. As far as seeing fireworks, it may be unlikely. In most ports you leave during the afternoon or early evening and I would suspect fireworks don’t start till after 9 o’clock at night. If you happen to pass a large town or city at fireworks time, you might get a good show as they may be firing fireworks across the river.
