And for those who live in Canada, if you test positive, you may be able to quarantine on the ship, but you are not allowed to return to Canada immediately upon disembarcation, and must self-quarantine for 2 weeks before you re-enter Canada.  That's why the NHL has ended all cross-border games.

For those of us who still have to work, not to sure how the boss would feel!

Thank you. We are travelling from Canada, and the website says the tests are only available to be shipped within the US. We may try to arrange having them sent to our Airbnb in San Diego though.

Can you not order the Switch Health kit to be delivered to your home, and bring it with you to San Diego?  Set up your account before you leave, and you should be good.

  3. Looks more and more like I will need to cancel. Have to check if insurance is going to cover this, or if I can get future cruise credits.  Too worried about border closures.  (Driving to US, and flying to San Diego). My first solo cruise and am chicken about getting stuck on the wrong side of the border.

Anyone want to talk some sense into me?  My cruise is Jan. 2…

I think that every little bit helps, but I'm not sure that mandatory masks are the solution by themselves. Far too many poorly made, poorly fitting and improperly worn masks, with many US passengers unhappy with the concept of wearing masks. This news item if almost laughable with respect to the protagonist, but when others walked off in support, you know there's a greater problem: https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/florida-man-kicked-off-flight-after-trying-to-wear-women-s-underwear-as-a-face-mask-1.5713490

FWIW, DW and I have recently switched to KN95 masks for daily use as a result of Omicron. If we don't cancel our March cruise, we'll be wearing them onboard too.

i have to wonder if they all knew each other?

You don’t say what cruise line you are with but if they are like some others you will need to do the test within two days of boarding.

There is nowhere to book an appointment with Switch Health.  You just log onto their site and wait for a nurse to become available.

Good luck with your travel and testing!  I am sure you must be nervous with that timeline.

Hi @*Miss G*  I'm travelling with HAL, and very, very nervous!  Thanks for your response.  I appreciate you!

  6. Hello,

I received the kit. Planning on cruising Jan.2 (maybe...)

When should I take the test, and do I require an appointment?  I don't see where I can book an appointment, and am nervous about testing too soon, or that they won't be open Jan. 1.

I'm driving to a US airport and flying out same day as the cruise...

I think if you have group A boarding it should be no problem. I guess you can always reschedule the appointment if you end up with group D or E.

It seems like if they are offering early spa appointments to embarking passengers they would make sure those folks can be onboard in time but that might be giving them too much credit. This would be a win-win as those first day appointments are the hardest to fill and as soon as the time passes the opportunity to earn that revenue is gone forever.

I’m *thinking* I should be ok.  I booked through Flight Ease, landing mid-morning…

I got really curious when I read your question and the exchange between @Sharon in AZand @lais.  We live in San Diego, and I never would have suggested that anyone walk from the airport to the ship, for the reasons Sharon gave, congestion and lack of pedestrian-friendliness.  But not long ago, DD and I walked all the way from Liberty Station in Point Loma to the cruise terminal, and I was amazed at how they have carved out a really beautiful walkway along the water, starting there at Liberty Station.   It was a very pleasant walk.  Long, but enjoyable.

So then factoring in the airport, I did a little research to see if they've also improved pedestrian access from there, which is maybe at the halfway point from Liberty Station, since there has been sooooo much construction at the airport.  I came up with this info:  https://www.san.org/to-from/Walking-Biking

It tells where the crosswalks are.

The upshot is I think it can be comfortably done, crossing over to Harbor Island, provided luggage is really light -- no more than carry-on for sure -- and provided one is used to walking.  Just FWIW.   Most people have too much luggage to walk it.

Thank you so much @AncientWanderer!  That's a great link!  I haven't begun packing yet, but am going to try to take just my carry-on.  It's a very lightweight piece of baggage with good rolllers.  We shall see if I'm up to the packing challenge!  I love walking, particularly in new places. 🙂

Like Paul already tells, a simple answer, donot do it. It is a very busy road with trucks, buses etc. and they often drive too fast. Besides you can expect some holes in the road too.

OK - Thank you!    I'm an avid cyclist, but I don't want to risk anything in a foreign country!  Walking is OK though?
