  1. Today's sunrise is among my earliest from Cunard. It was taken August 6, 2008 at the end of a trip that was primarily a Rovos Rail trip from Dar es Salam to Cape Town but the final leg was a return from Southampton on Queen Mary 2. Roy

  4. Thank you for the Saturday Daily/Fleet report Rich. Hiroshima was a horrible near end to a horrible war. Not a big fan of Blues music but enjoy it from time to time. A special salute to farm workers. Not sure what to think of the quote. I visited Warnemunde on the Elegant Explorer in 2015. I think I'll pass on the meal. My alternative is Classic Caesar Salad, Chilled Carrot and Orange Soup with Cumin, and Braised Lamb Shank as served on MS Prinsendam August 6, 2011. Today’s care list: Tbay DH and DGS with Covid Cruzn single pulmonary Fibrosis diagnosis Crabbi Patti’s father and now son with Covid A rough day for Crusin Terri The locks at Ijmuiden(Rotterdam diverted to at least 8/14) From the rotation: Amy adjusting to widowhood and children Status of St. Louis Sal (7/1), msmayor (5/20) and JAM37 (7/7) Strength and healing for Kazu Painful falls for Marshhawk, and Lindaler Celebrations and Shoutouts: Happy Birthday Tbay and DGS Productive medical visit for Quartzite Cruiser Shadow/Little in Kazu’s care and making progress Crabbi Patti on camp nurse duty to 8/8 Volendam caring for refugees StLouisCruisers on road trip Live4cruises in NC Hills to 8/11 Aliaschief touring Hebrides to 8/14 Cruzin Terri treatment coming after drive from hell 1 day for AMRDS (Nieuw Amsterdam 8/7 to 8/14) 1 day for Mister67 (Equinox 8/7 to 8/13) Cat in My Lap (Zaandam to 8/13), Mtn2sea and kplady (Nieuw Statendam to 8/27), and Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  5. Did you intend to post to this thread? It's unlikely that would be allowed since that would be a voyage from Juneau to Seattle and violate the PVSA. It wouldn't hurt to ask someone official though; you might be allowed to board in Juneau and disembark in Victoria. Not likely but conceivable. Roy
  6. I was out but thought I could get a glimpse before Quantum arrived but she was really early too. Roy
  7. FWIW I just posted this to the Crystal forum from the thread we discussed yesterday:
  8. Today's sunrise is another from my 2018 Grand Alaska/Panama journey. On August 5 I disembarked MS Westerdam in Vancouver beginning a journey to San Francisco, Crystal Symphony, and New York. Roy

  10. Thank you for the TGIF report, Rich. I'm not sure what to think about the quote. I don't think I've been to Bordeaux and definitely not on a cruise. I'll celebrate Underwear day but pass on the beer and the oyster as well as the Pempek as I don't eat seafood. My alternative is Melange of Tropical Fruit, Chilled Peach Soup and Three Peppercorn Crusted NY Strip Loin Steak which would have been my choices on MS Prinsendam August 2, 2011 if I had not had a big lunch in the Pinnacle Grill. Today’s care list: smitty’s entire family covid positive but mostly asymptomatic Crabbi Patti’s father and now son with Covid Kazu joining the appliance failure club The locks at Ijmuiden(Rotterdam diverted to at least 8/14) From the rotation: Painful falls for Cruzn Single Sister, Marshhawk, and Lindaler Heartgrove brother discharged but rapidly declining despite rally Tana with persistent problems Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney Celebrations and Shoutouts: Welcome back garlictown Good birthday celebration for lazey1 Shadow/Little in Kazu’s care and making progress Crabbi Patti on camp nurse duty to 8/8 Volendam caring for refugees StLouisCruisers on road trip Live4cruises in NC Hills to 8/11 Aliaschief touring Hebrides to 8/14 Cruzin Terri treatment coming after drive from hell 2 days for AMRDS (Nieuw Amsterdam 8/7 to 8/14) 2 days for Mister67 (Equinox 8/7 to 8/13) Cat in My Lap (Zaandam to 8/13), Mtn2sea and kplady (Nieuw Statendam to 8/27), and Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  11. I don't see that bacon in the USA but enjoy it on Cunard. Roy
  12. I mostly agree. For me, the Promenade deck was always a place for walking (Crystal never had loungers on the promenade deck) but I always found ample space to walk whether the chairs were fully public or assigned to cabins, I hadn't remembered if the Amsterdam ever got Lanai cabins but I think the Rotterdam had them even on my first modern HAL cruise in 2011. Roy
  13. I'm a boot and suspenders person and would likely try to do both. Apparently, for those boarding Nieuw Statendam in Boston things were a lot smoother for people who had Verifly. I do, however, find Verifly not well thought out. Roy
  14. @RedneckBob you don't need to wait 8 months. National Grits FOR BREAKFAST day is September 2. Roy
  15. I have a question about the Rotterdam. I think we all know Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam cannot go through the Panama Canal because the lifeboats stick out too far. That was supposed to be fixed for future Pinnacles beginning with the Rotterdam but wondering if it happened. I have been looking at the Rotterdam deck plan as well as the one for Cunard's coming Pinnacle, Queen Anne. On deck 4 cabins behind the lifeboats there's a special note: Staterooms have views obstructed by lifeboats and during Panama Canal transits lifeboats are adjacent to the balcony I do not see that for Rotterdam so I was wondering if she is able to go through the canal. Roy
  16. I have a sunset today rather than a sunrise. It's from my 2018 Grand Alaska Panama cruise. On August 4 MS Westerdam was southbound on the inside passage to disembarkation in Vancouver: Roy

  18. I posted on that thread as well Melisa, the person you quoted is not someone I recognize as being a regular on the Crystal forum; I don't think I ever sailed with him. and from looking at some of his other quotes I don't think I would want to. The reference to Lanai's started positively and while some did not like them John Cruise's comments were outside the pale. It's amazing how some people can be experts on a line they have never sailed. I found the comment that Lanaii's were never installed on the new builds particularly laughable. In addition to the technical issues I raised with Crystal they exist on HAL as well. Lanail cabins only work where there are passenger cabins on the Promenade deck and that has not happened on any BHB starting with the Vistas. Any one commenting on HAL like John Cruise should know that. Roy
  19. @StLouisCruisers wishing you a safe and stress free trip. Roy
  20. Thank you Rich for the last report before we celebrate Friday. A special salute to the Coast Guard and all the world's Coast Guards. I enjoy Chocolate Chip cookies but still prefer oatmeal raisin. I'll salute Chinese Valentines Day. Wishing a great daughter's day to my Niece's and Nephew's daughters. Interesting point of view from Ulrich. 2 straight days of Japanese ports I have not visited. The steak sounds nice but I don't have an air fryer. My alternative is Classic Caesar Salad, Oven Roasted Chicken, and Baked Alaska, my final dinner on MS Westerdam August 4, 2018: Today’s care list: smitty’s entire family with Covid but mostly improving Crabbi Patti’s father and now son with Covid JazzyV knee pain and The locks at Ijmuiden(Rotterdam diverted to at least 8/14) From the rotation: Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney Amy adjusting to widowhood and children Status of St. Louis Sal (7/1), msmayor (5/20) and JAM37 (7/7) Strength and healing for Kazu Celebrations and Shoutouts: Welcome aboard RedneckBob Good birthday celebration for lazey1 Shadow/Little in Kazu’s care and making progress Crabbi Patti on camp nurse duty to 8/8 Volendam caring for refugees Noordan helping NCL Encore passengers in Skagway Marshhawk good dermatology report Live4cruises in NC Hills to 8/11 Aliaschief touring Hebrides to 8/14 Cruzin Terri treatment coming after drive from hell Marshhawk successful visit to new dermatologist 3 days for AMRDS (Nieuw Amsterdam 8/7 to 8/14) 3 days for Mister67 (Equinox 8/7 to 8/13) Cat in My Lap (Zaandam to 8/13), Mtn2sea and kplady (Nieuw Statendam to 8/27), and Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  21. I wonder what's going on in Boston. It sounds like both disembarkation and embarkation of new passengers had serious problems. Roy
  22. @Sharon in AZ I've done both and which way is a bit complicated. What I really like is a round trip using QM2 one way and a cruise ship the other. That pretty much needs to be in the fall, eastbound on QM2 and westbound on the cruise ship since QM2 does the world cruise in the spring season. If it's just a one way I prefer east bound since I do not like overnight flights.
  23. Did you check the best by/expiration dates? I ended up with some real nasty toothpaste. Roy
