  7. Thank you for the Monday Daily. I'll pass on the days although Cat day will be very popular here. The quote is I think sad but true. I've been to Semarang just once in 2014 on the Crystal Symphony. The meal sounds nice. 8. National Lighthouse Day and @ger_77's post started me thinking. I grew up just north of Syracuse New York, and my usual swimming place was on Oneida Lake. The original Erie Canal was pretty much a simple ditch but it was updated about 1918 to carry strings of motorized barges, and at that time started making use of available waterways including a transit of Oneida Lake: I started thinking "maybe there were lighthouses and it turns out there were 3. There was one at Frenchman's Island near the west end of the lake, one at Brewerton, and a third at Sylvan Beach at the East end. That one is reported to still be operational although it would not be really used in navigation as it done electronically. I did not find photos except for one I'll link from Marine Traffic: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/photos/of/lights/lightname:Verona Beach/lights Not much ink on the link but from the link search for Sylvan Beach I always saw strings of barges crossing through the lake when I still lived there but they no longer do. I have Crossed the lake several times on cruises with Blount Small Ship adventures. The lights would have been vital to navigation in early years for finding the lake exits. The primary route of the canal now goes to Lake Ontario in Oswego although there is still a branch that crosses to Buffalo. Roy
  9. Today's sunrise is from my 2018 Grand Alaska/Panama trip. On August 7 I boarded Amtrak's Coast Starlight in Portland on the way from the Westerdam in Vancouver to the Crystal Symphony in San Francisco. Roy

  11. One thing to consider about Arrive Can. The rules change from time to time so if you don't update the app RIGHT before you travel you could be working with obselete requirements. The web version of ArriveCan is ALWAYS up to date. Roy
  12. Welcome back. I hope you can stay safely cool until the AC issue is fixed, this is a rotten time for that to come up. Roy
  13. Thank you for the Sunday Daily and Fleet Report, Rich. 3 great days to celebrate. Forgiveness does not always call for forgetting what happened and going back to normal. Lighthouses are becoming endangered due to both electronic aids and erosion. I love the Conrad quote. @RedneckBob tell DW she might not be any happier with any other man. I've been to Delgada 3 times, Crystal Serenity in 2008, Queen Victoria in 2016, and Nieuw Statendam in 2019. Since I don't eat seafood, I'll pass on the meal. 17. Thank you for the Saturday Daily/Fleet report Rich. Hiroshima was a horrible near end to a horrible war. Not a big fan of Blues music but enjoy it from time to time. 18. Did you intend to post to this thread? It's unlikely that would be allowed since that would be a voyage from Juneau to Seattle and violate the PVSA. It wouldn't hurt to ask someone official though; you might be allowed to board in Juneau and disembark in Victoria. Not likely but conceivable. Roy
  19. I was out but thought I could get a glimpse before Quantum arrived but she was really early too. Roy
  20. FWIW I just posted this to the Crystal forum from the thread we discussed yesterday:
  21. Today's sunrise is another from my 2018 Grand Alaska/Panama journey. On August 5 I disembarked MS Westerdam in Vancouver beginning a journey to San Francisco, Crystal Symphony, and New York. Roy
