  1. Your point is more universal than Maui-specific...There are very few cruise ship ports where the residents want tourists clogging up their roads and making it impossible to dine in at their favorite restaurant during their lunch hour. It's only those who get paid who want cruise ship tourists such as local Governments (with taxes) and tourist-based businesses. Key West residents even voted to ban big cruise ships but the local Government went to court and overruled them. Their locals were initially protesting when big ships arrived both in boats on the water and standing by the pier, here's a story about when a Celebrity ship appeared: https://www.keysnews.com/news/local/protests-greet-another-large-cruise-ship-in-key-west/article_9cb350e0-86b4-11ec-aeee-d7810749e647.html "A large cruise ship owned by Celebrity Cruises appeared on the horizon of Key West’s Pier B Saturday morning. As it grew larger and larger to the view, so too did a crowd of protesters staged on the adjacent pier. A flotilla of fishing boats, led by local Capt. Will Benson, amassed in the water as well."
  2. Not sure about the stateroom attendant but you don't have to use the door hanger, you can just call room service during breakfast hours for items within the continental menu for free
  3. IMO the big downside is the $200 change fee that the airlines don't charge
  4. This spells it out and while it doesn't mention the return flight, all it's really saying is it'll put you on the same airline's next flight that has availability. Most if not all the airlines will automatically do the same, rebook you to the next flight with availability and may let cancel for a refund if you would prefer to book on another airline. If you're already at the airport, the airline will probably let you go on standby (take over a no-show's seat)
  5. We were on the Vancouver to Oahu sailing, the fires happened just before this sailing and boy were people upset. What triggered many was the NCL ship was still going to Maui's north port which wasn't affected by the fires so many wanted X to find a creative solution to dock in the north port but they wouldn't and also, they wouldn't refund anyone. Several were upset about that. We were on a comped fare and still went, was a good time
  6. Pretty much the "sales" are based on occupancy and the discounts tend to get aggressive at the 90 day mark if they lots of unsold cabins. The "fire sales" usually happen 30 days or less
  7. That's what I'm getting at yet IDK, would FBC rebook you to another airline on your way home? You'd imagine they might get you to the ship as every day the ship cruises along further away from the original port but perhaps not home
  8. We're already wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overqualified for a job as a marketing writer for Celebrity 🙃
  9. I always wondered if FBC would be willing to book someone on a different airline if the original flight was canceled
  10. Everything you say is accurate, I just wanted to point out it has to do with if you receive a free seat selection when booking with the carrier directly. With Air Canada, except for business class, if you book with their "basic" or "standard" ECONOMY fare class, they do not offer free seat selection and when using a TA like FBC, it'll be the same Assuming you do NOT book a basic fare, southwest or with an ultra-low-cost carrier like Spirit, the main US-based carriers offer free seat selection regardless if you book directly or with a TA like FBC
  11. No doubt FBC is bad with the long hold times and sounds like they don't increase the number of employees during the holidays. However, what did the airline do, rebook you on another flight? Most likely, FBC would want to know what the airline offered before they would do anything
  12. Dear X, as long as you change the spiny lobster to Maine lobster, you don’t owe me anything else and are welcome
  13. As long as you know what you're buying. Like a salvage vehicle, the value is less than if it wasn't salvaged. Most who buy Rolex's do so because they appreciate and the rate of appreciation and therefore demand will be less
  14. The most memorable CD I've seen was a couple of years ago, Eddie was the CD while Pete was the AD. Eddie was scheduled to be moved to another ship while Pete was promoted to CD when Eddie departs and was shadowing Eddie. They were always together, always doing announcements together, answering questions together, and sometimes didn't get along. Just overall fascinating basically having two CDs each doing 50% of the work
  15. Match your RCL status to Celebrity, often referred to as "X". With Elite status, if you don't already get free drinks, you get free drinks from a happy hour menu at most bars every night but the first. There may be additional gatherings for Elite. You also should get a free bag of laundry The one thing you should know X is the main show and the dining times, for most sailings, the main show is at 7 and repeated at 9 (if in Europe, 730 and 930) and between the main show showings, a passenger participation game show. This is usually all there is for evening entertainment options, there isn't a dedicated comedy lounge, karaoke bar or piano bar. So pick your dining time accordingly
  16. FYI, 7 nights or more (like your 8 nighter) has spiny lobster usually on the last Chic night
  17. From their homepage, under the "Custom Search" header, select "more search options", the 8th field down defaults to "cheapest overall rates", you can change to cheapest OV, balcony or suite. Once you pick what you want, switch the 9th field to "single occupancy pricing" which will list the single supp. %
  18. It took me about a minute to go to a TA site I won't mention, set the filters to single occupancy, X sailings through August, copy all, paste values only into a spreadsheet and sort...
  19. 99.9999% nothing bad happens, but if it did, what would be the most likely scenario? Why go to Labadee to deal with hostages potentially for days, while you wait for a payment that that might not even come (a sniper could kill you)? They'd probably storm the ship which has lots of money, jewelry, luxury goods, and personal electronics on board
  20. They may be hesitant to give a written report because they don't want to put in writing the bad chemicals which would make it more likely for the passengers to win a court case if they sued
  21. The first thing that should have been done was for the OP to take a video of the bathroom, ideally with the "junk" being on the hubby's face. So many things get swept under the rug until a video gets released, only then do companies take action
  22. Starlink Internet, E-Muster, and decreased food quality
