  1. I believe there are others. I’m pretty sure Scenic does the Mekong, but that is the only one I can think of.
  2. There are probably very few people who have done more than one company on the Mekong. That said, I have sailed the Mekong with Ama and the Irrawaddy with Avalon. I much preferred the cabin on the Avalon; it is bigger, with a 14' wide glass wall of which 9' can be opened to the outside (with a screen to keep the bugs out). I also liked the bed that faced the window, sometimes when we were sailing I would sit up in bed reading, and glance up periodically to watch the scenery going by. The Ama cabin had the twin balconies, the real one of which just seemed to cut into the cabin and the French balcony just ended up as a small alcove not really good for anything. The Avalon ship was much smaller, a total of only 18 cabins. The food on Ama was amazing. I'm usually a fairly picky eater (although I do enjoy Chinese food). I found that there was enough choice that I never once resorted to ordering chicken (my go to protein at home) from the always available menu; the daily choices were wonderful. The dinners on Avalon were fairly good, but definitely not in the same league as Ama; the lunch buffet on Avalon was a real drag; I rarely found anything that I really liked. One thing to note was we had only 18 passengers on Avalon; that likely affected the amount of choice available, but even with a full complement of 36 passengers I'm not sure how much more choice there would be. The staff on both were very helpful, but I have to give a shout out to the crew on the Avalon. I had hurt a knee and so I was using a cane for excursions. In many locations we moored well below the level of the road above, and the crew had to cut stairs into the sand in each location. Whenever I left the ship, there was always someone there to give me assistance up the slope, and then again to help me back down again.
  3. @cruisemom42 By the way, the schedule is available at https://www.vy.no/en/traffic-and-routes/times?item=2893#item-96c83897df82 The train you are looking for is R45 in red near the bottom.
  4. Thanks for your help. I have actually booked both the 13:30 and the 14:55 trains. (I can cancel for full refund up to 24 hours in advance.) If/when I get better information I will cancel one or the other. The 13:30 should be doable after the Næroyfjord cruise, but it might be tight without much chance to have something to eat for lunch. If it seems doable, I think I would prefer the 14:55.
  5. No. I will be there June 26th. Other ship in port is Cunard's Queen Anne with almost 3,000 passengers. I think that I confused Flåm with Geiranger, which I think is the port with the seawalk. Does anyone know whether there is docking for only one ship at Flåm, or for more? The port information says a maximum of 3 ships in port per day, but doesn't talk about docking vs tendering. If the tender is 5:15 I should be fine; the tender dock is closer to the train station than the cruise pier. However, I have only done one previous ocean cruise on a very small ship, so I don't have a handle on the timing for tenders on SS.
  6. @cruisemom42 Return tickets are now available on norwaysbest.com through to December 14 2024. (Norway's best only sells return tickets; one way tickets are available from vy.no but only 120 days out.)
  7. When will we find out if we are docking at the seawalk or tendering?
  8. OK. But if a time is sold out on Norway's best on the first day of availability, I would assume that vy.no didn't give them an allocation for that time because the cruise lines had put holds on those times, or at least that the cruise lines were expected to do so.
  9. I think the sold out times are prebooked by the cruise lines.
  10. Do you have Aeroplan, and were the same Aeroplan numbers used on both flights? That might have helped link the two.
  11. If you connect the flights you will be able to check your bags through to FLL.
  12. MagiCat I would think that IF it is possible to link the 2 itineraries that you would not need to go through Canadian customs and immigration; you would be treated as a transit passenger and would go straight to US pre-clearance. If you remain on 2 separate tickets I think you would need to go through Canadian customs and immigration before claiming your luggage and checking in for the second flight.
  13. I will be on the Dawn next June. I am booked on the Næroyfjord cruise in the morning, and want to take the Flåm Railway after the return. We are due to be in Flåm until 6pm. Is a 5:05pm return from the railway doable, or should I go for the earlier trip, which might be tight to make after the morning cruise?
  14. @BuckeyeMark @little britain I was able to book my end of June today.
  15. @little britain @BuckeyeMark The dates including May and June are now showing up as available, but when you try to book them you get an error message. I chatted with them and they confirmed that the dates are not yet available for booking despite showing up on the calendar, and that my date (end of June) should be available later in December or in January.
  16. There are eSIMs that have both data and calls. Check out traveltomtom. Things have changed a lot in the last few years.
  17. Try looking here https://traveltomtom.net/destinations/oceania/new-zealand/best-esim-cards-for-new-zealand
  18. That is usually the case for embarkation and debarkation ports, particularly on ocean cruises.
  19. Maybe it is the fact that neither Rome nor Athens are the actual ports. They dock in Civitavecchia (for Rome) and Piraeus (for Athens) which are a distance from the cities.
  20. The second itinerary does not have a single deep fjord.
  21. Not relevant now, but that tracking number would probably have worked on Canada Post; they use different tracking numbers for international shipments, and it is the receiving country that seems to show the progress.
  22. I'm also in June. I'll try to remember to tag you.
  23. gnome12

    Check in time

Note that if you don't actually select from the drop-down box when you type in the tag, all you will see is @dawntrdr (and the person won't be notified) rather than when you select properly from the drop-down box when you will see the blue oval around the name @dawntrdr, who will then be notified.
  24. Here is a previous thread on the subject
