  1. I just got off of "live chat" with an agent that totally caused me stress. Simple question: If my EZ Air flight arrives late in the evening, will I be able to checkin/board the ship since she is overnighting in Quebec? A - You need to check your personalizer. Me - Why? A - Check your boarding time. Me - I don't have a boarding time...too far out. A - You have a flight that will determine your boarding time. Me - I want to change my EZ Air, but before I do, I want to confirm that I will be allowed to check in at 11 PM. A - You need to change your flight and then see. Me - No...No...No...you don't seem to understand. I rarely hang up on anyone. I thanked her, told her she didn't understand, and closed the window before receiving a reply. So my question to those doing a cruise starting out of Quebec.... (and by the way, why is it so hard to get a flight to Quebec from the West Coast?????). If I book a flight that arrives after 10 PM on the same day the CB arrives (but does not depart until the following day): 1. Will I be allowed to board her at any time of the night? 2. Will I be able to get a Princess Transfer from YQB to the ship? 3. Will I get my luggage that night? Planning this trip has NOT been fun. Thank you all.
  2. Assistant Restaurant Manager....is too long to fit on their name tag (lol). Can't speak for the Sky. On the Grand class ships, it is "usually" housed with the ice cream place....only up until noon. Don't know about the soda package (verses Plus/Premier).
  3. I have a friend that was recently "promoted" to Assistant Maitre d'. He is responsible for anything on the Lido Deck (buffet, grill, pizza, ice cream, juice bar), specialty restaurants, IC, and room service. There is an Assistant Manage (aka Head Waiter) that is in charge of each dining room computer and his assistant/receptionist. Then there are several (6-8) Assistant Managers within each MDR. Food and Beverage Officer Maître d'hôtel Assistant Maître d'hôtel Assistant Manager Waiter Jr. Waiter
  4. And you thought one roach was a problem. Check out this news release from Honolulu International Airport (I know...not the official name). https://www.kitv.com/news/top-stories/pest-company-ensures-travelers-should-feel-confident-in-dki-bed-bug-treatment/article_3d301666-01b6-11ee-8bb1-573e1f3057f3.html
  5. Neither. I would do a round trip from Vancouver. I agree, boarding in Whittier (Anchorage) is a snap. But getting there is a bear.
  6. I've heard of passengers doing this. Never thought to even look.
  7. At our last Meet and. Greet, the question about Planks and Steamers reopening was asked. Officer said that they are working on it. I forgot the reasoning behind answer.
  8. Be sure your stickers are easily removable. Some leave paper/glue behind. Best to use blue tape.
  9. Best ever door to door school sale item. Comes with a slide cutter like a box of Saran Wrap (but more heavy duty). I don’t bring the whole box, but cut off a piece that might be a foot long.
  10. All else being even (wifi and crew appreciation), it comes down to how many cocktails will you have a day. 3 is breakeven point. After that, all the non-alcoholic drinks, coffees, desserts, cake, gym classes....are FREE.
  11. It may be too late to book MDR reservations through Dine My Way for all of you to dine together. It is an awful app option. If you don't have a reservation, it is even worse for walk ins. Check in with the Assistant Manager at embarkation lunch or your first dinner. Good Luck. The one thing the app is good with, is locating shipmates. You need to request and accept passengers. But it is pretty accurate in locating anyone in your party. You type in their name....and then click on accept on the other device. If you need help, take one person with you to either the Ocean Ready table near the photo department or to the Internet Cafe and practice with each other. I hope all of you are at least on the same deck. Is it a short cruise (7 days)? It will be over before you know the ins and outs. Have a great time. You are with family...all stuck on the same ship.
  12. When did these quiet havens become game rooms? How about the Library on Deck 7 (near the Wheelhouse)? That's got to be a quiet area (shhhhh/library). a VERY VERY VERY long time ago, the Coral had this little nook and cranny space with a couple of barrel like chairs. Is it gone now?
  13. Had no trouble clicking the button on the app, once on board. Paid with OBC at pre-cruise rate.
  14. They brought many more crew onboard once they hit Japan. I've noticed more and more room stewards are new and are not as sociable as those in the past. It could be that they are just overwhelmed with more rooms to attend to. I was in the Santa Fe dining room (MDR). Service was excellent. Food was good. Did not like the casino. Missed having an IC. Didn't drink much (not a wine expert). I miss the days when Princess was consistently good and reliable.
  15. I am sorry you are having a less than ideal cruise on the Emerald to Hawaii. It is one of my favorite itineraries. Hopefully, it will get better once you hit the islands. If you need any recommendations for what to do on each island, please ask. I generally am more food oriented, but do have knowledge of the outer islands too. 1. Bathtubs are only in mini-suites or higher. The shower stalls can be very challenging. You can request as many towels as you wish. I leave a note for my steward if I can't find him. The bathroom set up is across the fleet. 2. I recently requested an extra blanket for my cabin mate. Our steward acknowledged request and said he "would have to find one". The next night, it was on the bed. Pre-covid, I have asked for multiple pillows. 3. Room service is slammed the first 24 hours. This shouldn't happen on day 4. Pick up a carton of coke while in the islands. Much cheaper than room service. Do you have the beverage package? But then again, can drinks are not part of that. Haven't tried it, but is it available via the app? 4. You are absolutely correct about the sound system. In the Piazza and Princess Theater...it is ridiculously above a tolerable level. I am not a comedian person. But you are pretty much stuck with this entertainment until they reach the islands and can swap out. But there should be lots of other activities: * Tui and Maile should have sets in the Piazza every evening. They have hula and ukulele lessons every sea day. * They should also be giving port talks that are NOT shore excursion sells. * Hopefully you have Sharon the Park Ranger Naturalist on board for enrichment lectures. If not, there should be someone else doing lectures. * The Cruise Director staff should be doing free activities like ribbon lei making (and fresh flower leis on the way back) plus some other arts and crafts. * Your production shows should be Rock Opera, Blame it on the Boogie, and Magic to Do. Be prepared to muffle the sound. It is 100 decibels or more. Ask Customer Service for ear plugs. 5. Food is very subjective. My taste and yours may not be the same. Not discounting your opinion, but the food I had last week was above Princess' norm. Meat was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I don't do the buffet. Didn't do Slices, but had two lunches at the Salty Dog Grill. Speak to your Assistant Manager and see if he/she can modify your order to something that will suit your palate. We had excellent service I do hope the worst is behind you and you will find some enjoyment in the days to come. How adventurous are you when it comes to foods and activities? Hawaii has so much to offer everyone. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is helpful to others when specifics are mentioned. If not, Princess may not be the cruise line for you.
  16. @Cruise Raider was your cruise from San Diego when they just brought her online or Japan? Thank you for your comments. @Ken the cruiser looking forward to your live. I doubt Jennifer (receptionist CC) will still be there. She’s so friendly.
  17. Forgot about this one. Almost as good as the “sanctuary” without the service….lol. I find the seats outside of the Explorer Lounge to be too chaotic. I am easy distracted by the events held in the lounge or by all the people strolling by.
  18. SkyWalkers deck 18, Adagio deck 16, or aft pool deck 15.
  19. It would not have made a difference in showers if you had chosen the Majestic. Minis and higher have bathtubs. The rest of the cabins have just a shower. I can shower in a small space without getting the floor soaked. My travel companions don’t seem to be able to do the same. I’ve even added binder clips to the bottom for weight. They still can’t manage to keep the curtains inside the rim of the shower.
  20. You are on your way to Hawaii. Would you kindly share what your experiences are that you feel are unsatisfactory? Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
  21. You must be flying from Florida to Vancouver. You will need a passport to enter Canada at the airport immigrations/border control. Do you have a NEXUS card?
  22. That was the worst of it. With a QR code, I still had to stand in an hour+ long line. Don't have a clue why we couldn't be expedited, although finger prints were necessary. If you are in a wheel chair, they have a special line for you that is much faster.
  23. More clarity please. Did you book solo fare at 200%? If so, your travel mate would "probably" be able to book at your current (double occupancy) rate. If you booked solo fare at $110%, your travel mate would "probably" have to fork up full fare. If you booked at 200% and decided to be magnanimous, YOUR fare would return back to the initial fare and YOU could pay for her fare. Is this all before final payment?
  24. Not acceptable, but cockroaches are probably brought on by passengers from either home port of visiting ports. They evade "security" x-ray machines. I would prefer not to see one on a ship, but not surprised. The CB sails in tropical localities.
