  1. I'm not out to bag on anyone, just saying how I understand it is now and was.
  2. Yes, but I think the AC is modular in the newer ships. Older ships, the cabin was modular, but AC was central, and cabin plugged into the central AC that served that whole section of the ship. That's how whole decks or sections would go down and not individual cabins.
  3. I believe this to be true. My understanding is that in today's newer ships, the cabins are modular. They can be literally pulled out and replaced like a Lego block. AC is self contained as is all other electrics and plumbing just pops together. This is why everything seems exactly the same, it is
  4. No, it won't. It shuts off when the door is open. I think Mr Heald's comment applies more to the newer modular design ship cabins. Cabins are modular plug and play units now days
  5. Considering the printing press is on-board, no reason they can't return to it.
  6. Called Carnival today (2/21) and asked about the lack of spa booking availability online as well as asking if they had any type of list of speakers or topics as part of the Journey's cruise Spa is open and it is some glitch between US and AUS booking, or so she said *wink* You'll be able to book once on-board. and there is no advance list of Journey's cruise speakers or topics.
  7. I am curious about this for anyone who has sailed on a Journey's cruise. Was there anything in advance, even if close to sailing, about what some of the Journey's topics/events would be?
  8. What area code did it come from, 305?
  9. Also be surprised how many of the people you see in the dispensaries are folks of an older age, not kids. Youngest people I've ever seen in a Florida one was the employees
  10. Basically, first time cruisers. Who do you think is the cruise line for first time cruisers? I doubt it'd be Cunard, Viking or even Celebrity.
  11. I get them, A LOT. I got one coming up, I have to fly all the way down to visit you in Australia and then sail back to Seattle $100 pp But I will put a fair amount into their casino, usually a couple grand. I kind of use what the cruise cost might be in the casino. If you think about it, they're gambling too....gambling that I don't win big in the casino....LOL I think a lot of it has to do with not just on-board casinos, but if you're a upper tier at other casino chains or if you've ever had a marker with a casino.
  12. When I was young and stupid, I used to do this. People can be too violent now days, got shot. Of the older folks fighting on the ship they seem to be, IMO, guys who look like ex-jocks who can't hold their booze.
  13. I noticed that as well on my upcoming cruise in early April. I will turn plat on that cruise, so while looking to see what the tags would look like as plat, I noticed that "Priority" flag as well
  14. Is it Carnival? What do you consider the cruise industry's entry level product? I do not mean or ask this to disparage Carnival, I enjoy it and will be plat on my next one, but I mentioned in another thread that I viewed Carnival as the industry's entry level cruise line and that as folks age, become retired/empty nesters and they move up to other brands like Princess, Cunard or even Seven Seas if you can afford such and that person disagreed. That made me wonder, what does everyone see as today's cruise industry entry level cruise line? What cruise line would you recommend to the newbie cruiser? Is it Carnival, and if so, is that out of brand loyalty or because that's the best place to start?
  15. Australia Weather in April Even though April is considered fall across Australia, temperatures are still quite warm across most of the country. The colder areas of the country include Tasmania in the south, while the tropical north is much warmer. Average High Average Low Average Rainfall Sydney 73 F (23 C) 58 F (15 C) 4.2 inches (106 mm) Cairns 84 F (29 C) 72 F (22 C) 7.5 inches (191 mm) Melbourne 69 F (21 C) 53 F (12 C) 2.3 inches (58 mm) Brisbane 80 F (27 C) 64 F (18 C) 3.5 inches (90 mm) Perth 77 F (25 C) 59 F (15 C) 1.6 inches (41 mm) Adelaide 72 F (22 C) 57 F (14 C) 1.7 inches (44 mm) Hobart (Tasmania) 64 F (18 F) 49 F (10 C) 2.1 inches (52 mm)
  16. Just FYI if arriving early to Australia prior to sailing.... Daylight saving time, also known as summertime, ends at 3 a.m. on the first Sunday in April in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria. Australia's Northern Territory and the states of Queensland and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving time.
  17. Branson is Las Vegas for old folks and old country music artists and there's a huge lake there called Table Rock Lake, very popular for residents and tourists.
  18. So was the nighty a gift or was the room steward rummaging through your unmentionables to find one to display?
  19. Back to the original topic, rowdy guests and misbehavior. They need to have the guts to give a WELL TRAINED security staff the ability to intervene more and to detain people, short and long periods. In time, the message will get out, "No more f&^%ijng around on Carnival ships." Talk is cheap, actions make a difference. Security staff should be trained in conflict resolution and even mental health issues which can be exacerbated with alcohol. Know when to be hands on and hands off and able to negotiate. More or less, a "peace officer" who's job it is to stop and resolve issues, and not look for other reasons to arrest you. Just make the peace.
  20. I have always viewed Carnival as their entry level product. Cheap, fast, ton to do....go go go.....but as we all age, we slow and mellow, so we graduate to the more sophisticated products, like Holland, Princess or even Cunard. I doubt many who cruise on Cunard today started there. They started on lower tier offerings and as available time, age and wealth allowed, they graduated to the more fancy lines. These are the ones that should service long term and adventure voyages, other than repositioning.
  21. I assume that means "Not a mega ship with all the newest toys"
