  1. Turns out that I had to turn off my VPN and it works just fine. You can download Passages, view menus, read about excursions, and there is a tour of the art on the ship.
  2. Great first day on board! Check - in was a breeze, we were on the pool deck for our first cocktail about 10 minutes after arrival to the port The ship is absolutely stunning! We had our first dinner at Prime 7,very good. I had the portobello piquillo goat cheese tart for the first time loved it. Porterhouse steak was flavorful and tender Whole lobster was good, but not quite as sweet as we remember from past visits, and not as much meat Sides Petit fours would have been enough... but we are in Prime 7, so....... Service was outstanding, and the meal was perfectly paced. There was a welcome aboard show in the Galaxy a taste of the talent on board, and it looks like the entertainment team is top notch! We are very much looking forward to the shows. Beautiful powerful voices and fabulous dancers. The Regent Signature Orchestra on the ship (7 pieces) is superb. The seas felt smooth as silk through the night, and FWIW, we did not hear a peep from either of our neighbors. I was looking forward to trying the new Regent app, but so far it is a no-go, not working at all.
  3. You can read all of the menus on the Regent website here https://www.rssc.com/experience/epicurean-perfection
  4. I'm guessing from your comments that this duck dish was not so much to your liking? I must confess that if I see this on the menu I would be inclined to order it, so I am interested in your impression. We board in 3 days, 17 hours and 30 minutes, but who's counting?☺️
  5. That's the one. When I first checked on the morning after tours opened up, there was no availability for any excursions in St.Barts, nor was there an option for going on a wait list. I kept checking and that several tours showed opened up. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get a tour, but if you do not find availability when your window opens, go on the wait list and keep checking. Also, when you board, go to the Destination Service desk, often they will have availability then.
  6. I found the same thing happened to me for a different cruise. I went on line the day after excursions became available, and everything was available except St.Barts, which was sold out. I kept checking, and after a month or so, there was availability, so I was able to book it. Keep checking.
  7. Mary, thank you for posting your cruise review here. As always, I am eagerly anticipating your wonderful blog entries, always a treat!
  8. Thank you for this info @Mike Moore Can you tell us if and when the new Regent Mobile App might be rolled out on the other ships?
  9. I think that there are common shows to all ships, i.e. "Divos and Divas", "Broadway in Concert", and some shows that are specific to certain ships. ("Bohemian Soul", "Diamond Run" on Splendor) "Paradis" on Explorer,), and many shows that you may or may not see on any given cruise. For me, the main factor is the quality of the production cast, which with rare exceptions are wonderful.
  10. I did the BA to Rio last March, and did a review of it. For way more info about the cruise that you are likely to want to see, it is here. We did a pre cruise in BA, which begins on post # 15. The port reviews begin in post # 50.
  11. It is baffling to me as to why Regent chooses these hotels that are so inconvenient and not of the best quality when there are so many choices in Reykjavik that would be such better choices. We stayed at the Hilton Konsulat pre cruise, which we far preferred to the Grand where they put us up post cruise. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. I hope and trust that everyone is on the mend, and that your parents are well. I read on Facebook that apparently quite a few of our fellow cruisers came home with Covid. Fortunately for us, we escaped.
  12. Sorry that the cruise didn't meet your expectations. I would prefer to cruise during the night so that we can spend our days in port, no? I guess this is the luck of the draw. All of our tour guides were interesting, knowledgeable and engaging, most were quite delightful. Again, the luck of the draw. Weather conditions are always a factor that can determine the enjoyment of a port, sadly, it is out of Regent's control. I can neither confirm nor deny, as this is something that does not interest me in the least. I thought that the cruise director and assistant, and the social hostess were readily available.
  13. We did the Memphis to New Orleans cruise last June. While the reviews do seem to be at best, mixed, my wife and I have no regrets about taking this cruise. The biggest issue is with service, for a variety of reasons, this is a big issue for this ship. But for us, the quality of the itinerary, the excursions , the cuisine, and entertainment /enrichment outwayed the downside. Despite the issues, we are actually considering doing the upper Mississippi on Viking.
  14. But.....did you have it with the works? We had it and it received a split decision. I had it with everything and loved it. DW left off the raw onions and remoulade. It had somewhat of a smokey flavor which I enjoy, but DW, not so much.
  15. But Bill had it with mustard only, which is considered all wrong by the locals, one is advised to have it with the works (raw onions, fried onions, special ketchup made with apples, lightly spiced mustard, and remoulade.)
  16. The Reykjavik Edition gets very good reviews, has a nice rooftop bar, and is within a very easy walk to the Harpa Concert Hall, which is the starting point for the hop-on hop-off bus. The bus is a great way to explore Reykjavik on your own, as it stops right in front of pretty much all of the city's major sites.
  17. Thank you for your posts, and continue to enjoy your cruise!
  18. Kudos to you, @vitacura, for not allowing a truly egregious situation dampen your enthusiasm for your cruise. Have a blast, and thanks for posting!
  19. Are you referring to the port in Reykjavik? It was just steps from the gangway to the bus that took us to the hotel, I wasn't paying attention to taxis, but I believe that they would be coming right up to the ship. As to other ports of call, I do not remember any particularly long walks to the tour busses. I would like to second @forgap's recommendation of the Edition, in addition to being in an ideal location, it is very close to the Harpa Opera House which is a hop on hop off stop. The hop on hop off is an excellent way to sample the city, it stops very close to all of the major sites; in addition to the opera house it stops right at the church, the Perlan (a unique place, highly recommended), and several museums.
  20. I would like to do a short review on the Hotel Reykjavík Grand Here is what I liked: It has a pretty lobby. The room had a bathtub, not so easy to find in Reykjavik. About a 20 minute walk to a hop-on hop-off bus in front of the Hilton Nordika Here is what I did not like: The room felt very warm when we entered it, and I could find no temperature controls. I called reception to inquire as to how this can be accomplished, and was told that it couldn't, but I could open a window. I searched for windows that could be opened, and found none. The room was very stingy on towels, and zero facecloths. After checking in, we called reception and asked for more, but we needed to get ready for dinner rather quickly, so they did not arrive in time. No bars of soap. There is a liquid soap dispenser between the sink and the bathtub, but a long reach from the bathtub; and a dispenser labeled "skin and hair shampoo", as well as conditioner in the shower. The shelf over the sink was incredibly short and narrow, not enough room for one person to put stuff, much less two. There was no instructions as to how to use the room safe, and I was unable to discern how to set it. Not kidding. I will fully stipulate that I am not the sharpest tack in the box, but I have stayed in many hotel rooms and have managed many room safes. I tried every combination and permutation of buttons that I could, but kept getting error messages. The desk area where a lady would need to apply make-up was very dark. The bed was too low to the floor, making it somewhat difficult for persons of a certain age to get in and out. The black out drapes were not wide enough to cover the entire window. The location is very inconvenient to the great majority of points of interest, and to any of the interesting restaurants that I was able to find. The cab fare to get to our restaurant was 7000 krona = $53. Other than that, everything was hunky-dory. There may be a very good reason to stay at this hotel while visiting Reykjavik, but I do not know what it may be.
