  1. When comparing prices you need to know if it is a US or UK/European based website - you can usually see it based on currency for the cruis price. On the US web, in US$, the prices are without tips, taxes and fees, while prices in € or £ are a 'total price' by law are including tips, taxes and fees. When possible always choose the cruise line UK site when located in the UK. Confusing when comparing prices online. I assume all prices include food in the main restaurant and cafes but not drinks. Prices does vary based on itinerary. I do find Royal Caribbean good value for money - no experience with P&O.
  2. The fjord into Nordfjordeid is relativere short - i would be On uppercut deck an hour before arrival Don’t miss the fjord sailing - as impressive as Geiranger. Railway is great - tickets must be booked in advance. Also Stegastein viewpoint. Yes, be sure not to miss the waterfall. In Geiranger has some impressive view points not to be missed. Do som searching for your ports of call in this forum.
  3. I’m not a Bodø expert but below some links - do not know what ‘picturesque island’ is - assuming Lofoten islands - might be too far. https://guidetolofoten.com/ferry-bodo-moskenes/ https://www.visitnorway.com/listings/polar-tours-transport-and-sightseeing-company/126057/?lang=uk https://visitbodo.com/en/destination/bodo/ https://www.norwegianadventurecompany.com/en/destinations/bodo https://www.reisnordland.com/news-blog/dagsturer-fra-bodo
  4. Unfortunately not the best options - there is a Burgerking and Asian Wok restaurant at the airport - I have no experience with them. I have spent the night a few times at Clarion (Strawberry) Copenhagen. Airport and they have an acceptable restaurant. My best suggestion is to take the metro towards the city - a good option could be around Christianshavn Metro station (11 minutes) - alternative in Copenhagen around Kongens Nytorv (13 minutes) - metro at CPH close to Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport
  5. Forgot that you had included your itinerary in previous post. Sunrise on May 19 is 04:25 am - so that's the time to be on deck. Sunset is 10:30 pm. Remember that you must also be on deck early when entering Flåm - approximately the same time to sail through Sognefjord and Aurlandsfjord as sailing in to Geiranger.
  6. Not that simple to answer. It takes about 5 hours in total - you actually sail through three fjords, Storfjorden, Sunnylvsfjorden and finally Geirangerfjorden. The Geirangerfjord itself takes 1 hour. My recommendation is to be on deck a little before sunrise - around 04:30 (depending on the date) - then you will experience the last part of Storfjorden, entering and sailing through Sunnylvsfjorden and Geirangerfjorden.
  7. Normally, it will take 30 minutes to drive from Oceankaj to the airport in the middle of the day - there may of course be special activities in the city during the day that may affect traffic. Assuming July 10 - I am not aware of any activities that may affect traffic. Holidays generally mean less traffic.
  8. If you're looking to minimize the effects of seasickness on a cruise ship, there are a few factors to consider when selecting a cabin location. While it's impossible to completely eliminate the possibility of feeling seasick, there are some areas of the ship that tend to be more stable and may help reduce the symptoms. Choose a cabin on a lower deck: Cabins located in the middle of the ship on lower decks tend to experience less motion because they are closer to the ship's center of gravity. This can help minimize the feeling of swaying and rocking.
  9. It is not my recommendation to be at the airport 3 hours before departure - I myself am at CPH airport two hours before departure at the earliest. Alternatives are of course a private guide - this is the only one I know of. Got positive review in this forum. FYI: Today at 1 pm the current wait time at security was 10 minutes.
  10. I have not lost a cruise but in three cases (out of 36 cruises) there has been a stressful situation. A case where the plane had a technical problem - we were re-routed with another airline. Another case was a airline strike - again re-routing with another airline - in both situations much later arrival at the ship than planned. Last situation was lost luggage - it takes some of the joy out of the cruise. In all three cases we flew out the day before - it has taught me that flying a day before is not necessarily enough.
  11. It is entirely up to the individual - I have attached a short video with some inspiration for Ålesund, Geiranger and Flåm. There are some indications sf times of the day in the video.
  12. My assessment is subjective - also the word terrible. From the balcony you only see one side of the mountain - to enjoy the panorama, the snow on the mountains and the waterfalls, you have to go up to the upper deck and get the full view. The morning sailing through the deep fjords to Geiranger and Flåm is, in my opinion, one of the highlights of the cruise which I enjoy from the upper deck. However, based on the number of guests on the upper deck early in the morning, the vast majority of guests find it terrible to get up early and enjoy the view from the open decks.
  13. Depends on which terminal - the bus stop is close to terminal 1 - from there about 700 meters to terminal 3. You can also pay with DKK 50 or DKK 100 notes - exact payment is not necessary.
  14. On arrival, the easiest thing is to take a regional train from CPH to Hovedbanegården (Central Station) and from there S-train line A (tracks 11-12 towards Køge) to Sjælør. Tickets are bought from ticket machines at the airport - three zones for DKK 30. It takes about 30 minutes. From Sjælør to Oceankaj terminal, take the S-train line A to Hellerup station and from there bus 164 to Oceankaj. Tickets are bought from the ticket machine at the station - two zones DKK 24. It takes about 50 minutes. After the cruise, it is easiest to take bus 164 to Hellerup station and from there S-train to Nørreport station. Likewise, two zones - tickets can be bought on the bus (cash only) or at a kiosk - expect a long queue. If possible, I can recommend the DOT ticket app for buying tickets - this requires data roaming, however.
  15. An important subject. May 17th is a very special day to be in Norway, and if possible you should join in the festivities. There is also not much else you can do - the vast majority of shops are closed that day.
  16. Only two deep fjords into Geiranger and Flåm where I normally recommend to be at upper decks early for the scenery - but not a must and as @MeHeartCruising is saying - you’re sailing the same fjords in the evening - but often many activities in the evening. For the other three ports no long fjord sailings. Ålesund is a nice coastal city. Nordejordeid is a small town with very limited activities - Kristiansand not that interesting. just as a note: Geiranger and Flåm are located in the UNESCO World Heritage fjords. From 2026 ‘Zero emission zones’ will be introduced in these fjords and number if cruise ships that can visit Geiranger and Flåm will be very, very limited. Another reason for taking this cruise and be early on deck when sailing the fjords.
  17. If you are going on the cruise with the primary purpose of seeing the northern lights, I would recommend an excursion. There are good chances of seeing the northern lights from the ship, but better chances on an excursion. If the sky is clear, it is subordinate, except that there is more light in the harbor and in the city, but if it is cloudy, the excursion will go to the place where there is the greatest chance of less clouds and thus to see the Northern Lights. On my most recent winter cruise to northern Norway, I only saw the northern lights from the ship.
  18. Yes, Depends on when your ship arrives - check if the ship docks or tender. If you can catch the 09 train, you will be back in Flåm at 11:05. The trip to Stegastein takes 30 minutes - so with a little planning there is enough time - whether you also have time for the waffles depends on when you set sail. Remember to be on the upper decks early to enjoy the scenic sailing into Flåm. The actual sailing takes 5 hours - but be up before sunrise.
  19. Yes, on Norges Bedst you can only buy a return ticket with the same train back – you must either take the ship's trip including waffles or do without. You can get off the train at Vatnahalsen station though - that will give you 30 minutes in Vatnahalsen - I'm not sure if you can buy waffles at the hotel though - that might be a special treat for cruise guests. There are many cafes in Flåm that serve waffles.
  20. In Denmark you can still only pay with cash if purchasing tickets from the driver - several options to purchase tickets in kiosks - also App possible. Same tickets for busses. Metro, harbor bus (ferry) and trains.
  21. Exactly the same for me - traveled a lot in Norway and Sweden but didn't use cash - not in Denmark either. However, you should be aware that many vending machines and toilets as well as smaller businesses do not have terminals that can read magnetic stripes - a Chip/PIN / contactless card is therefore necessary if you want to do without cash completely. A good option is ApplePay/ Google Pay - accepted on all contactless terminals.
  22. You’re right - “exclusively used” is not correct - I can see that ‘Silver Dawn’ is using Langelinie for turnarounds here in 2023.

  24. Not quite correct. Which quay is used has nothing to do with the size of the ship - in general, Oceankaj is used for all ships that end/start in Copenhagen, while Langelinie is exclusively used by ships that have a stop in Copenhagen. Langelinie can be used for ships of the same size as Oceankaj. Better facilitets at Oceankaj but further away from city.
