  1. Living in Vancouver I haven't stayed at the Bayshore but will try and answer the rest of your questions. So here goes. As for a restaurant - next door is Cardero's - I have eaten there a couple of times and some cruising friends from San Francisco joined me and enjoyed the meal etc. There are eateries in the hotel but once again haven't use them. The area where the hotel is located is right on the seawall or promenade that lead to the east towards the downtown core, the Convention Center and the Cruise ship terminal. If you go west or to the left you will reach the entrance to Stanley Park within a few minutes. If you want to take a inner harbour cruise the terminal is on the way to the Park. Robson Street and Denman are two streets close to the hotel that have a variety of shops and restaurants and most are non-chain. Hope this helps and I suspect my fellow poster MartinCath will be along with his take on the eateries as he is more in tune with the local scene than I am. Dennis
  2. Just a note of caution 3girlsmom - it's every second train that goes to YVR - the other train goes into Richmond town center - if you do screw up and take the wrong train and you realize this before you get to Bridgeport station - you can exit your train there and wait for the next train to take you to the airport. You don't actually have to buy a ticket from the ticketing machine anymore - at the fare gate just tap your credit card and the gate should open. Also it is now possible as of this week to use a Canadian linked debit card for payment. Dennis
  3. Yes the Pan Pacific is at the cruise terminal and the Fairmont Waterfront is across the street and is linked to the cruise terminal by an underground food court etc.
  4. Try the Moore Hotel - I have stayed there a few times -while an older building it is well maintained - it doesn't have air conditioning but in May that shouldn't be a problem. I will be staying there again in April for one night. It is located close to Pike Place Market and Westlake Mall. It is a short taxi or Uber/Lyft ride to Pier 91 where Carnival usually sails out of. https://www.moorehotel.com/ Hope this helps. Dennis
  5. I too was going to recommend the Bainbridge Island ferry ride and the West Seattle water taxi over to Akai beach - have done these as well as the Ballard Lock cruise on Argosy tours. Even if you don't take the ride up the Space Needle there is plenty to see and do at Seattle Center which was the site of the 1962 World's Fair and as for getting to Seattle Center take the Monorail from Westlake Mall. Hope this helps Dennis
  6. And the TV won't work - ie let you watch any programs until you watch the muster video.
  7. Because of the trolley wires on many of the streets in the downtown core the use of double decker buses is problematic. That is why our transit authority only uses them out in the suburbs where they have high enough clearance.
  8. On the Koningsdam there are bedside outlets - was able to use my CPAP machine without the need for an extension cord although I brought one just in case.
  9. And those two hotels are right at Canada Place - the Pan Pacific is located atop the cruise port and the Fairmont - if it is the Fairmont Waterfront - is across the street from the Pan Pacific and is connected to Canada Place by an underground food court. Hope this helps. Dennis
  10. They will be working on the engines and according to Crown staff other enhancements will be made - some mention of an upgrade to the casino - there are currently about 1000 contractors on her - this is keeping the housekeeping and other crew member busy - in talking to some of them on the last cruise before drydock - they will be kept busy - only the entertainment staff are not currently on board. The vibration from the rear thrusters/ engine was very annoying - while attending the Captain's circle elite reception in Club Fusion - located at the back of the ship it was so noisy that it was hard to hear the MC speak even with a microphone. Dennis
  11. Here is a link to one operating out of the Pan Pacific: https://ascentcarrental.com/contact-us/ Hope this helps
  12. And most media outlets are saying that the restrictions will be lifted. When have the media ever been wrong!
  13. It is an excellent area to walk around - leaving Canada Place and heading west you can walk all the way to Stanley Park but with a little one that might be too much - lots of ocean, mountain views and you can also get some get photos of Vancouver's downtown glass towers. If you walk the other way - eastward you will be in Gastown which is where Vancouver was born - this is more historic - lots of old buildings and restaurants and shops selling souvenirs but no Diamond International. Just inside the entrance to Canada Place - there is a staffed Tourism Vancouver kiosk which has lots of info on things to do. Hope this helps Dennis
  14. Just a precautionary note - at the bottom of those steps/stairs is Vancouver's official CLOTHING OPTIONAL beach - called Wreck Beach and some old gun towers from WWII. Dennis
  15. Offered by HAL next year on May 7 and Sept 17, 2023 - got this info from a large vac 2 go site that can't be mentioned here. Dennis
  16. Fall foliage is always tricky to predict - you can go the same time every year and get vastly different results. It will also vary by region - generally the more northerly you are the earlier you get them. At least that has been my experience on my eastern trips. Dennis
  17. I wonder if some of the cruises being talked about were booked while the PVSA was suspended and this is the only way to get around it being re-instated. Victoria to be best of my knowledge has never been a port where you can disembark - is RCL ensuring their are CBSA on duty. Dennis
  18. Are they charging for the shuttle and if so how much? Dennis
  19. According to another post the Amtrak train will only be once a day to start until more equipment and staff come on board. I t will start running on Sept 26, 2022 and will leave Seattle in the morning and leave Vancouver in the evening. Dennis
  20. Just a clarification - the Edgewater hotel is next to Pier 66 which is used by Norwegian and it's brand of ships. Most other cruise lines use Pier 91 which is about 2 miles from town and has little or no hotels close by.
  21. Yes - I was there this evening to pick up a rental vehicle for a tournament and as soon as I stepped off of the Canada Line train there was a sign reminding everyone that masks were mandatory in the terminal and on the planes. YVR is under federal authority.
  22. Yes I am volunteering at the Pride Parade - will be a road marshall somewhere on Robson Street.
  23. While the parade does not affect Stanley Park or Georgia Street - traffic will be much heavier than normal so I would suggest using Sea Bus and then transfer to the bus taking you to your hotel. I generally if going to the North Shore take Sea Bus and then transfer to whatever bus I need.
  24. And MartinCath - don't forget that July 31st is the Pride parade so depending on where the OP is staying may need to give extra time to get to the port. Dennis
  25. Italy52 - did you load your luggage onto the bus or did it come straight from the ship. If the latter it is considered to be in a secure place and doesn't need to be screened as the ship will have done it. If the former you get a lucky break but normally you have to bring it in for inspection.
