looks like i can not use my onboard credit to pay for specially dinning any more since they now require payment upfront

On Royal Caribbean you can apply onboard credit to online purchases, such as dining reservations. Maybe Carnival will do the same. Let's wait & see...

Looks like there will be a change to specialty dining reservations.  You will be able to make reservations ahead of time:

"Once the plan is implemented,  guests will be able to make reservations at specialty restaurants in advance. This means they’ll not only be able to pick the venue they want to dine in, but also the specific day and time.

Previously,  guests had to wait for E-mail confirmation of their requested reservations. Now they’ll immediately lock their reservations into place by paying in full at the time of the booking. Guests will be able to cancel their reservations at any time, both before and after boarding, with no penalty."

This is great news!!!!!! However I wonder if we'll have to pay in advance also, as passengers have to do on Royal Caribbean when securing speciality dining reservations prior to the cruise. Either way, great news!

Just curious.............why would you need a group number?  The reason I ask, there will probably be  8 of us adults, do I need to call that number?

To qualify for group space, you will need to have a minimum of 8 staterooms (in category 4B or higher) and book your reservations through our Group Department.

We order danish, bagels, cream cheese, coffee from room service and DH goes to the Lido and brings us back eggs, sausage, potatoes to have with our room service order.

He used to be able to order Lox, but no more. He now brings Lox from home and keeps it in the cabin fridge to have with the bagels and cream cheese.

Ok, so no lox on the breakfast 'door hanger', but bringing lox from home??? What? No lox on Lido? If your DH goes to Lido to bring back eggs, sausage & potatoes to the cabin, how come he does not bring back lox from the Lido as well?? Bringing your own lox from home, I don't understand. Has Carnival discontinued lox from their ships entirely?? Is lox no longer available at the Lido buffet?

Doesn't some if not all the food/beverages come from the ship?

The food on Amber Cove is not supplied by the ship calling on the port. On John Healds Carnival Facebook page, (from June 24th), he wrote this about Amber Cove food & beverage.

    (Below)

    ______________________________

The food and beverage operation in Amber Cove is run by a global catering company that has been in service for over 25 years and also serves many major airlines and all airports in the Dominican Republic. By law, they are required to import all their food and beverage products. All cleaning products used by the facilities operator are approved by the FDA and EPA.

John Healds entire post from June 24th reads:

Quite a few of you have been asking about our calls to the Dominican Republic and in particular Amber Cove so I wanted to share this important message with you.

The safety of our guests is our number one priority. While no Carnival shore excursions visit any of the resorts which have been in the news, we continue to monitor the recent events in the Dominican Republic and routinely review information provided by the U.S. State Department. The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo is actively working with the Government of the Dominican Republic and the private sector to ensure that U.S. citizens are safe and feel safe.

So I hope that helps reassure you and I know that you will enjoy this superb port of call and have a brilliant time there

A lot of people on Cruise Critic say they like to tip the stateroom steward $100 on the first day.

$20 yes.... I have seen many members say that. However I have never, ever, seen anyone say they pre-tipped their stateroom steward $100 on day one. You're very Disconnected. Can you please share the links to the replies that show where (a lot of people on Cruise Critic) say they pre-tip $100. Where are they? Direct us to these $100 first day replies. I would love to see them. Or are you confusing yourself with 100 members per pre-tipping post call it a bribe, ha!

So I don't take care of it when I check in to the cruise port? I go straight to guest services when I board the ship?

Yes, take care of this once you board the ship at guest services. Don't attempt to take care this in the terminal. At guest services once onboard this is a simple issue. In the terminal at check-in, not so much.

    Hi Twodaywonder ☺️

I'm looking forward to giving the Bolt Sea Coaster a try during my 15-night voyage on Mardi Gras.

Also, it appears as there will be an additional cost to ride Bolt. I'll drop it below.

Wow, thanks for posting that! Was only a matter of time for Carnival to change the rollercoaster cost from 'included' to 'additional'. Having a fee might be a good thing.

Technically, going on 2 different ships is called a side by side cruise.

Technically, the term (Side By Side) is a term only used & made up by members here on Cruise Critic.

The same applies for the word (Chogs) when referring to chair hogs. Another term made up & used by Cruise Critic members.

We are booked on a back2back on the Magic.  We have never cruised b2b on Carnival, and I want to get an idea of what to expect once the first cruise ends.  Can we stay onboard, or do we have to get off, just to get back on?  In short, what is the process. Any info is greatly appreciated.😀

I have only cruise Carnival, but I may go RCL just to go to Coco Cay.

Be certain to do your research in regards to Royal Caribbean & Coco Cay. Royal Caribbean ships quite often miss Coco Cay, resulting in a port change. A common complaint on the Royal Caribbean message boards.

My family and I will be going on our third cruise this summer.  The first time I was younger and could "feel the boat moving", but no lasting effects.

The second time was 2 years ago, in my early 40s, and I had extreme dizziness while on the boat and for almost 2 weeks afterward.

I wore Sea Bands and it helped a little, but I felt like I was on the move even off the boat.  Anyone else run into this?  Do you have any good precautions or remedies?

    Hi Gude2 ☺️

During a sailing I use Meclezine. However if I experience any symptoms of Mal de Debarquement Syndrome after my voyage I always treat, manage & combat it with (exercise).

Typically the symptoms of Mal de Debarquement Syndrome go away on its own. And it's essential to remember that each & everyone of us are different & the way we may respond to a particular medication or exercise varies; it's always best & warranted to seek advice from your doctor. Especially if is its lasting weeks after a cruise instead of days.

In most instances of Mal de Debarquement Syndrome, exercise is best. But if the symptoms are severe or are lasting weeks, a doctor visit is warranted & a medication may be needed.

Here is some info on Mal de Debarquement Syndrome @:

    Additional info located @:

    Important:

Always remember when seeking medical advice on a public forum that what might work well for one person may wreak havoc on another.

I hope you feel better soon!

If I was going on the Horizon, I’d much prefer going a week earlier (or later) on the 8 day cruise with the following itinerary:

    Grand Turk

    La Ramano

    Curacao

    Aruba

I would much prefer that itinerary but our week off is set a year in advance so this is whats available for that week. That is why we are considering Magic.  It has a much better itinerary even though we didn’t love the Dream.

It's a shame you can't switch your date to the 8-night sailing on Horizon. The itenerary is far superior than both Horizon 6-night & Magic 6-night.

If I had to choose/settle, between the two 6-night cruises that you listed, I would certainly pick the Horizon itenerary over the Magic itenerary. Good luck!

Why did you ask in the first place if you're going to ignore the responses & the dress code as well??

    Sheesh.........

You have over 10,000 posts, surely it wasn't an attempt to increase your post count.

After 10,000 posts you had no clue at all where to locate an answer in regards to Carnivals dress code???

    Something is not right.....
