  1. I advise trainers for the promenade laps and paper clips to temporarily hoik up the hem of long dresses, other than that, and of course following exlondoner's excellent advice, sounds good! 🙂
  2. We use Amex with no problem although I think many folk use credit cards. Wouldn't dream of using our bank debit cards.
  3. So assistance, which is what the post you answered was about and which you seemed to indicate was just a zoo, is still there. Good.
  4. So no wheelchairs for those who need help? I am amazed that is so different from S'ton disabled assistance. Have things deteriorated that much in NYC cruise ports?
  5. I have no idea what disabled embarkation from kerbside is like in NYC as we [pre Covid] have always been in transit so have had terminal arranged disabled assistance but it seemed to work OK. Post Covid, it works fine in S'ton so can't imagine it would be any different in NYC. If it has changed at all, it will be a tightening up as Cunard need to know who needs help onboard in the case of emergency and that in my book is a definite plus so is better.
  6. This is a NYC embarkation. To have a MaS hire, one would have to have had it put on in S'ton and then presuming it's a one way, it would be collected at S'ton when the ship docks. The only issue with that is it although it would only be used for approx 7 days, the hire cost would be for the two weeks. If the wheelchair has been stored in housekeeping on the outward journey, then it wouldn't be available for embarkation but would be in your cabin for when you have embarked. If there isn't a US equivalent of MaS which could facilitate wheelchair hire from NYC if the TA is a return then someone is missing a trick. Either way, Cunard wheelchairs are never available in S'ton for embarkation, they are always from the terminal's assistance programme.
  7. and one of the joys of cruising with Cunard is that I can wear my jeans if I want to, and I do, just in case the o/ p has the impression they are frowned upon. They don’t fit 'Smart Attire' but they are most acceptable during the day and in a few areas of the ship in the evening.
  8. It doesn't matter what anyone else wears. I think it's been established the OP in post 14, has decided his question has been answered and has decided what to pack with regards to a collared sweater and jeans of an evening, which was the crux of post #1.
  9. On the other hand, we always try and sign a chitty. It's hard to disprove a reasonably sizeable chitty isn't yours if there's no signature to compare or, as in our case, able to prove it's difficult to be in two bars at once.
  10. I get the impression rj1227 has no intention of 'dressing down' or under any perceived 'minimum'. He was, understandably given the slightly subjective 'guide' Cunard have on their website and as mentioned in my post #11, asking for clarification of the evening requirements for dress on a Cunard TA cruise.
  11. I would say there is no difference in the sophistication of passengers between Cunard ships. All have their share of 'the sophisticated'. I do however agree there seems to be a higher degree of formality on a TA cruise than a non TA cruise.
  12. My husband is a jacket wearer but that's his choice although some of his shirts could be worn quite easily without a jacket and wouldn't look too 'undressy' .Once onboard and after a night or two, you'll get a feel of the ambiance and as a turtle neck takes so little room, I'd pack it. It could be a piece of 'day wear'. Whatever, thanks for asking opinions and have a SUPER time. 🙂
  13. I know, and there lies the problem. 🙂 To add, I haven't seen Cunard official photos of denim wearers for evening wear but I have seen chino wearers.
  14. I am just trying to find out whether the four-word website statement of "dress shirt and trousers" is literally the rule or whether it is somewhat a guide and aspirational. It's def. not aspirational as most follow and it's a definite guide rather than a somewhat one. Of course rules are always there to be flouted by some and I would like to think rather than rule, it's more the guide most Cunard passengers follow.
  15. The problem with the sentence highlighted is, as we all know, very subjective and dress styles for different occasions vary throughout the world. To enjoy the main body of the ship of an evening, they should have kept with the sentence before the highlighted one eg dress shirt and trousers.
  16. EmVic,definitely sounds as if it was a Butler problem rather than the actual ship. A bit late for me to say this but I would have had words with the Concierge and if necessary, the Head Housekeeper or Hotel Director.
  17. I agree and our home meat consumption, especially red meat has gone down significantly but on a cruise, I am on holiday and I want to see MEAT. So have the veggie options, but please Cunard, don't stint on the carnivore choices.
  18. I have a very early edition of Clement Moore's T'was the Night before Christmas and Arthur Rackham's drawings have always been the definitive reindeer in flight for me and his reindeer fit your description.
  19. Never mind phoning for Norman, fish knives were banned at the Royals' table and pronounced 'common' by Edward V11. In practice, if you must have distinct fish eaters, two forks are far more practical when dissecting fish, the fish of course first having been filleted and at the table if ordered in QG. Me? I'd go with whatever utensil is placed by the side of my plate. Can't say I'm bothered what style they are as long as they work. WantedOnVoyage, you obviously weren't on our trips because apart from one returned filet mignon when I didn't have strong enough specs to find it on my plate, we have found the meat rather good. Excellent in fact.
  20. I think you'll find WantedOnVoyage, most who post on this board are aware there are booking differences on either side of 'the pond' but equally, most are also aware it all comes clean in the wash. Now D&N along with one or two others has tried to give a clearer picture to anyone who moans about booking inequality but it doesn't seem to sink in the fact there are pluses and minuses on both sides. Unfortunately the minuses loom a lot larger than the pluses for one or two. As for chocolate, apart from Hershay's Kisses, you can keep yours as our Cadbury choc bars are the best! 😄
  21. Sunrise over a slightly misty fjord as cruised to Oslo August'22.
  22. As I said, get a day room if you don't want a sightsee tour before purchasing a lounge pass, if they are available to purchase at YVR. We have flown Air Canada in the past and I think it was an early evening flight. Might be still operating.
  23. I'm a Bizet fan too and my post was a deliberate [obviously poor] attempt at a play on words, hence my mention of 'misquote'. Ooops 0/10 I must do better 😀
  24. yes it is, hence the 'misquote'! 😄 Corriador v toreador Sorry. Forgive my brain. 🥴
  25. Thought you were misquoting Bizet for a moment. I read it as corriador!! My brain is obviously wired bizarrely 🥴
