  1. There are two cruise ship docks in St. Thomas. Crown Bay and Havensight. Havansight is to be preferred in general it is also closer to the Red Hook ferry location. (you will have to take a taxi to Red Hook) So you probably want to prefer a ship that calls at Havensight. Check the port schedule to get an idea. Pre Covid Royal Caribbean and Celebrity were calling at Crown Bay and other lines at Havensight.
  2. Solomon Bay and Honymoon Beach are about a mile away from the visitors center and to me they are walkable, there is a trail but ask at the visitors center. You could also take a taxi to other beaches.
  3. They don't sell cellular products on board because there is no way to activate them at sea.
  4. If you visit the fort be sure to down the stairs and walk around the moat.
  5. Yes, it is in Cruz Bay so if that is a priority OP should probably not take a cruise line excursion. I have taken the ferry four times from Red Hook and once from downtown to Cruz Bay and it worked out fine. We arranged with the taxi drivers to pick us up in time for the return ferries.
  6. The Visitor Center is in Cruz Bay. The two cruise line excursions I have been on one went to Trunk Bay and the other Honeymoon. I don't think we had time at Cruz Bay.The one to Honeymoon was direct so definitly no Cruz Bay on that one. I did do the visitor center and the park four times on my own by taking the ferry from Red Hook to Cruz Bay. Then a taxi to the park from Cruz Bay.
  7. I have a do it yourself kit. First I loosen the wax overnight with drops that soften the wax. Then I stream water with a syringe plunger. The kit is from CVS.. Only one ear gets a lot of wax. To prevent having to have the Doctor's nurse do it I clean my ears every couple of months so it does not get impacted. Seems to do the job well without needing the doctor.
  8. I did my buying and selling real estate settlements online sending and receiving six figure amounts to and from my bank accounts. No problem. Since my new property was in Texas and my old was in Maryland everything was done remotely including all document signing. Tech saved me a lot as I did not have to be at either settlement.
  9. Will take six to eight weeks. https://bernews.com/2022/11/travel-authorisation-refunds-now-underway/?fbclid=IwAR0551mPWNR-0c0z9cQGkCL5oX8Wr4agnG7a8QOggehBeeRqNmxrFbaKQkM
  10. Refunds underway. Will take 6-8 weeks https://bernews.com/2022/11/travel-authorisation-refunds-now-underway/?fbclid=IwAR0551mPWNR-0c0z9cQGkCL5oX8Wr4agnG7a8QOggehBeeRqNmxrFbaKQkM
  11. You are making some assumptions about the future but US companies are moving some production from China. Chips are made in the US already and new plants are being built in the US and Europe. A large one is underway in Arizona to be online in 2024 and this past week another large chip plant was announced for Arizona
  12. When I was working I had no copays for that. My primary care physician did it under our plan. So you need a better plan. On my Medicare plans except for Part D drugs I have no copays.
  13. At your ports all the adults will need will need is photo ID like a driver’s license and your ship card. Your child does not need anything. Your passports won’t be checked. You can leave them in you cabin safe. I always leave them in the safe but that is another discussion. Mexico will only want the adults photo ID and ship card. Same for the Bahamas.
  14. If he is using it for a business he will be taxed. That would be the same with cash sales unless he was a cheat. If he is not then he doesn’t know how to use Venmo.
  15. The lighthouse is not on the same route as the caves. It is on the #7 route which is along the south shore near Horseshoe. If you walk around Hamilton I suggest visiting Fort Hamilton. If NCL is running their ferry to St. George you could walk around there. One idea to consider is a 4 or 5 hour taxi tour. You could include the lighthouse as part of that.
  16. We purchased a cabana at Barefoot Beach and got a ride in a golf cart to the beach. We also got a ride from Barefoot to the central area and a ride to the Dragons Coaster.
  17. You live on a small island 300 miles by 600 miles 🙂 and need a passport to travel anywhere off the island. We can travel thousands of miles without a passport. I live in Texas and can travel 1000 miles in either direction before leaving the state. Traveling to Europe is a long expensive plane ride not a short train ride under the channel. So having a passport is exotic for many Americans.
  18. I am retired. I am never in a hurry. I have my smartphone to occupy my time if the line is long. 😀
  19. You are lucky. My local supermarket which is supposed to be a premium Tom Thumb usually only has 1 lane open staffed. Eevery now and then 2 staffed lanes are open. So most use self checkout with no line because they are forced to. I
  20. I agree about American Express. One reason for why I stay with their card.. I only had Spectrum interent for a few months before switching to fiber because their cable interent was not that great but I have to say they when I disconnected from Spectrum it was not a hassle like when I disconnected from Comcast about 10 years ago at my old home. Comcast did not want to let go.
  21. I have not used cash at all for over two years except for the barber who only takes cash. I do have a backup though. I carry $100 in cash and keep a large stash at home. Being tech savvy I do understand that the systems could go down or there could be a natural disaster. Been through several natural disasters. Here in the states we probably have more than in the UK. For hiking my tech is indispensable. GPS does not require internet. They compass on my watch has GPS redundancy, waypoints, backtracking, and in a few weeks my phone will be able to connect to a satellite in an emergency if there is no cell service. .
  22. The only large company that does not put me on hold forever is Apple Computer. And their support usually knows their stiuff. Other large compaines put me on hold forever and when they answer the call center is often clueless. The absolute worst is cell phone carriers. Small busnesses are usually okay.
  23. I agree with you and I rarely use the self checkers. Two reasons. It does cost jobs and also I kind of feel like I should be paid or get a discount for doing the work. 😀 The other reason is I like talking to the checkers.
  24. Everyone should get a passport. My read is that one person in OP’s group does not have a passport and as the cruise is November 18 they would not have the time to go through the normal application process to get a passport in time. It would have to be expedited. If that person lives in Northern Virginia as the OP does that would be the route I would go as being close to DC it could be done in a day.
