  1. Here's an option you might consider: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/sgp/en/faq/questions/can-i-connect-devices-into-my-stateroom-television Guests may not plug any DVD players, gaming consoles or any other electronic devices into their stateroom television. Your mileage may vary. .
  2. That was due to Hurricane Harvey. When Katrina hit NOLA the Conquest was moved here and had a long run. Galveston recovered and today a fleet of ships call Texas home. The Jubilee is at Terminal 1 tonight awaiting tomorrows cruise. Check out the Port of Galveston long range plans, much to come here! .
  3. Here is the FAQ answer: While in port, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought on board. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12-ounces/354-ml each or less per person. https://www.carnival.com/help
  4. You can also expect a revised Past Guest Party invitation. They now say you and a guest. .
  5. The simple answer is this isn't a law from a municipal, state or national jurisdiction. It is a policy/rule your host has in place. Their ship, their cruise contract and we agree to abide by at registration wit their ability to enforce. I am not trying to be mean, but they don't have to be fair. Carnival and the balance of the cruise industry have policies that vary between lines. Carnival allows me to take a ham radio handheld. I use a digital one on what is called DMR and it works amazing. Royal Caribbean does not. Your mileage may vary. .
  6. Consider a cheap prepaid phone from Amazon or other sources. We carry $45 dollar Motorola Trac Phones around on the ship. I deleted most of the apps, went and downloaded the ship app, news and a couple of other apps. They have 32 gig of memory and work amazing. When we are in port the iPhones come out of the safe for the benefit of their amazing cameras. Worth a look... .
  7. Here's an idea! How about letting the people at the call center decide? is it possible that taking a phone call for clarification from a future cruise passenger is part of what they do? .
  8. The Quantum was like this in June to Alaska!
  9. If Carnival could cancel the program or at least drop Platinum they would. It's laughable. I could care less about the free blanket, mug, binoculars, game board, fanny pack or the now (in)famous slap bracelet. In the cruises since Covid the Past Guest Party was about fifteen minutes of formal presentation and introductions of officers and staff members that clearly wanted to be anywhere but in a area with a bunch of people telling their cruise history. If you haven't cruised in awhile they finally gave up and changed the invitation to allow you to bring a guest. We have given our invitations away more than once to a younger couple we met aboard celebrating on a honeymoon or a military veteran returning from service. Guilt level for that is less than zero. Go guess how many beans are in the jar, have fun. Carnival wants new cruisers to step aboard every sailing, drop a cash deposit or credit card information and spend like crazy. They work you into a frenzy with sail away music at 100 decibels with promotions of shipboard specials mixed in between the Cupid Shuffle and Wobble. Am I getting to old for Carnival? Maybe. We cruised on the Quantum to Alaska in June and it was a much different experience at the prestigious level of Emerald. Have fun on your vacation; life is short. Monday I start chemo for post-surgery cancer. I'll survive, but every cruise from Fun Ship Freddy to the Mammoth of Seas is a great vacation. See you at sea... .
  10. Here is the reason Cheers isn't offered the first day on Carnival. Profit. I've cruised forty-one times on everything from the original Mardi Gras to number forty-three booked on the Icon in March. Thirty-six on those cruises have been with Carnival. My wife and I have sailed on everything with a funnel from here in Galveston since the Celebration bounced into port. Worthless information, so on to my explaination. TABC laws have been in effect for decades here, and the Cheers package is not unlimited. As others have posted the drink limit is fifteen. Carnival (and other mass market lines) shift the need for profit to alcohol, casino, shore excursions and spa costs. Every cruse a total spend per passenger is calculated based on a mean per passenger. When school is out there are more kids, less alcohol consumption per passenger, casino spends. etc. Carnival dearly loves a hot day here in Galveston with throngs of people dropping their card down for alcohol purchases. They must pay TABC their percentage until the ship crosses into international waters twelve miles out. Stand near any bar and watch what happens. Coolers are padlocked as those have tax paid, hard liquor bottles with tax stamps are put away and the changeover happens. It's quick, and once done the bars return with a full drink menu. Royal Caribbean charges $91.99 (as of today for our upcoming cruise on the Icon) for a Deluxe Beverage Package. (Side note, CoCo Cay excursions and cabanas are dynamically priced. Check the costs on Icon of the Seas sailings.) Carnivals website states Cheers is from $59.95. Neither line wants you to meet the daily drink maximum. It's not unlike a insurance policy. Get lots of people to buy it, and not everyone reaches their maximum return for the investment. That is why they make the No Sharing Policy. I am not a drinker, I make a living talking economics and returns on cost. Using those limited skills I hope I have shown you the drink package benefits the cruise line first, and the cruiser second. See you at sea... .
  11. Above if the perfect post. Come join us for dinner! It's Sunday, can I get an amen? Thirty-six cruises on the funnel folks and we thought it was confined to Funship Freddy until... We returned to Royal to make the fabulous Emerald Level after a decade away for Alaska on the Quantum in June and it was the same. Shorts for every night in the MDR for many. Here is the common denominator; if I am sitting at a table with shorts and a polo shirt and you are sitting at your table with the ones you love you should seriously consider not looking under the table and staring at my legs. Food tastes the same regardless of what I wear, and your price for the vacation does not go up based on the length of my leg coverings. Talk to your family, not about mine. Let me put this in perspective; I travel one hundred nights a year on business, and have done so for three decades. Business casual has taken over my corporate meetings and airplanes are a free for all. Tonight I am sitting with a lap desk recovering from bladder cancer surgery on Friday. We are working on the details for our cruise on the Icon to celebrate. You'd bet shorts and boat shoes along with a polo or Tommy Bahama shirt will be the norm for me on non dress up nights. For those a pair of khakis will need to do. If that bothers you and you are at the table with my wife and I the problem looks at you in the mirror. .
  12. Same. The floating cabanas were more than my first car. We sail in March.
  13. We bought salt! The cedar sprinkled on salmon cooked on the grill is really good!
  14. We loved this trip in June. Your payouts are better! Here are a few of my photos: Seattle. Sitka Ketchikan. Juneau. Victoria. Ship. Enjoy the trip! .
  15. Yup. We cruised the Quantum of the Seas to Alaska in June and the problem was the same. They made several announcements for people to move out of the buffet area after their lunch and got little cooperation. .
  16. Truer words... If you haven't cruised in a year or so you might not know they changed this. The invitation says you and a guest. They essentially gave up on enforcing the old system. What hasn't changed in several years is the "I'd rather be anywhere but here" look from ships officers and staff members. They stand at the entrance, are introduced and don't wait around long after that. The entire event lasted fifteen minutes on the past several cruises. Last, a Dallas guy living in St Louis? Come back, Texas needs more originals. Go Astros :) .
  17. We did this on the Quantum last month. So many no-shows caused them to go recruit people as they were walking by. I suggest showing up and seeing what happens. .
  18. This is easy. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary on the Quantum of the Seas to Alaska. After forty cruises, most warm weather we finally made it. Get a balcony, do amazing excursions, just go! Here are a few of my photos. Message me and I will share more. Seattle Victoria BC Ketchikan Juneau. Sitka. Quantum .
  19. We did take that tour in Sitka. Take the short walk over to Alaska Salt Company. They have some great flavored salts, and we use it sparingly on grilled meat. Nice memory to bring home. .
  20. We have both. And agreed for travel from ATX. I travel a moderate amount for my job and Clear is what I describe as a necessary luxury. Houston Hobby at 6:30AM on a weekday is packed with flyers and I can get to my gate about ten minutes after arrival at the airport. We carry off all our luggage. I took four cameras, a ham radio and marine radio. I'm that geek... We went to AWAY suitcases and they (so far) seem worth it. On the SWA flights this summer if you were in Group C they gate checked your bags. We pay the Early Bird for personal travel. .
  21. We literally walked off at 7:30 AM. We went all out and got The Key but not one person checked it. Cabs were plentiful, we arrived at Sea-Tac before 9 AM. You’ll make the flight. We have Clear and that took 5 min. TSA Pre was about 20-30 people deep. Not to promote this, but the process was far too simple. We’re platinum on Carnival and are done with short cruises from here in summer months and when school is out. My wife taught 40 years and those trips look and sound like summer camp. I doubt we will make diamond with Carnival. .
  22. We were booked on SWA leaving around 2:15 and that spiraled downhill. I changed our flight twice for the Denver connection to make it back to Houston Hobby. I travel some for my company and we used points, so hence the connection. Air travel has not been so glamorous this summer. We love your city, our daughter and SIL live near Zilker Park. .
  23. Here are some from a couple of our cruises on the Breeze. Enjoy your vacation. https://photos.app.goo.gl/d6DHtHHjYrjNobtd9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/xkvSndMucQ9N4lnt2 .
  24. Cruise forty-one, fortieth anniversary and a great cruise on the Quantum. We live on the Texas Gulf Coast so most of our trips originate from Galveston. This trip has been a bucket list item for a decade, but taking care of elderly parents, careers, life, etc. got in the way. I stopped writing reviews over a decade ago as they generated comments polarized around opinions. 😃 Instead here are my photos. Enjoy. Quantum of the Seas https://photos.app.goo.gl/9DDb9oNyvUYtfMWQ9 Juneau https://photos.app.goo.gl/YVTvPtu5WqVKvMfH8 Sitka https://photos.app.goo.gl/Xjz6YnvVEBLPrb5k6Ketchikanhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/yHD7Cmk4GMnNQers7Victoriahttps://photos.app.goo.gl/GWfQkxgDkmxH16mN8 Seattle https://photos.app.goo.gl/9TW4ZTZATa5aAryd9
  25. We took 10x50 Vortex brand. I have a lightweight pair of 7x35 and once we compared the extra power was worth it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V3L47LB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Here are some images of the ship and ports: Quantum of the Seas https://photos.app.goo.gl/9DDb9oNyvUYtfMWQ9 Sitka https://photos.app.goo.gl/Xjz6YnvVEBLPrb5k6 Ketchikan https://photos.app.goo.gl/yHD7Cmk4GMnNQers7 Victoria https://photos.app.goo.gl/GWfQkxgDkmxH16mN8 Enjoy the trip! .
