? re White Bay

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know when the new wharf will open? Sydney Port authority has ships leaving from there in April this year. Can't seem to find any info on it. Thanks in advance for any replies.

the p&o pearl is first off the rank on the 15th april and going by the princess itinerary you go over the Anzac bridge and turn left, the address is

WHITE BAY CRUISE TERMINAL

VIA JAMES CRAIG ROAD

ROZELLE NSW 2039

as you can see from that first picture you can practically swim over from the wharf 5 tent.....

for us it is ok as we don't have to drive into the city to get there but if you are staying in the city the only mode of transport will be taxi... probably 10-15 min ride....

I believe they are also going to build a long term car park over there eventually...

Just spoke to someone from the white bay passenger terminal project, in general terms, the terminal building is to be handed over on completion at the end of February, the first cruise ships will dock as scheduled od the port authorities website,The outstanding issue, which they assure me , has Very high priority, is transport links to and from the terminal. Probably got a lot to do with local politics and resident input re noise atc.

Hotels are on the Balmain side of Darling harbour. Easy to find on the net, an acceptable taxi ride to White Bay.( in my opinion)

Very few hotels in Balmain, mostly pubs. One was owned by Dawn Frazer. Streets are very narrow. Lots of cafe's etc. Bit of a trendies place. There is a regular bus service and ferry to Balmain East but nowhere handy to the new terminal. I guess you could take the loooong walk over Anzac Bridge:eek:

Fastest taxi ride would be from the 4 Points by Sheraton in Sussex St, City. Straight onto the flyover to Anzac Bridge and onto the new service road to the terminal - about 10 minutes. Alternatively, try the Novatel, Ibis etc on Murray St, Pyrmont or even The Star Casino Hotel & Apartments in Pyrmont.

We drove up to the gate yesterday. There were no buildings I could see. I heard they were going to have the Marquees like they have at Barangaroo.

The terminal can be seen from the Anzac Bridge. You can't see the buildings from the gate.

I must have missed it. We drove over the Anzac Bridge and couldn't see any terminal from there either.

Clear as a bell. Very low profile and has the wavy roof line. Look straight ahead over the old navy ships at glebe island. Still looks like a fair bit of work to be done though. Maybe someone who walks the ANZAC bridge can take a photo.

Vehicle access will be via an extension of James Craig Road, the road that doubles back through the maritime museum workshops and past the superyacht marina then goes under the bridge to join Somerville Rd with a new extension into the terminal at Roberts Rd. James Craig Rd used to be the old highway into Sydney fron the west over the old Glebe Isl Bridge.

Its a very low profile indeed and blends ito the background. Heres a shot from Crystal Symphony when she was at Glebe Island earlier tis year , looking over to White Bay.
