The link didn't work for me. I was sent this by Sydney Ports, see http://www.sydneyports.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/28641/WB_Cruise_Terminal_Info_Sheet_21032013_FINAL.pdf

Good info and maps detailing the terminal. Long walk to nearest public transport. Looks like taxi's will be very popular.

I can see water taxis doing good business, to and from this wharf, assuming they can get close access rights.

Just checked a few for rates and it will put you back about $85 for two from Circular Quay or Darling Harbour.:(

Can't see why they are quoting such high prices considering it is only a 10-15 minute taxi ride. Maybe they are taking morning peak into consideration to the city which can be horrendous. You would be going against the flow in the morning from the CBD to White Bay - don't even have to contend with Victoria Rd traffic.

From the ship to the Airport would be fairly straight forward by either the Anzac Bridge/Cross City Tunnel/Eastern Distributer or cut across via The Crescent through Harold PArk to Parramatta Rd/Broadway/Cleveland St to Redfern and the back way to the airport etc.

That is the quoted rate for water taxi's. Agree the normal taxi's would be around $40 in peak traffic from CBD.

Hi all,

I was amazed this week to see that Sydney Ports had a half page advert in our local paper trumpeting their new White Bay Cruise Terminal.

To see the advert, click the link below.

http://newslocal.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx

Select the 2nd April issue in the Calendar at the top, once the digital version appears, go to page 20 to view advert from Sydney Ports in the Inner West Courier newspaper.

It all looks very good.

I wonder how many taxi drivers will read it?

I think they will still get lost trying to find where the cruise ships leave from?

Perhaps P&O will issue a printable map with the tickets.

Thanks Sutho for that incredible photo. Our Oosterdam cruise is set to embark there in November according to cruise calendar. Hopefully they will have transport issues worked out by then. Our lodgings are on Campbell St. near George St. so hopefully not a very expensive taxi ride if no other options available.

Looks like the first ship will not be leaving on the 15th April... Was talking to a friend who is leaving on the Sun Princess on the 15th and they received an email from Princess saying they will now be embarking at the OPT not White Bay

Oops!!!!! Apology for my previous post (I must have had a seniors moment) They are actually going on the Sea Princess and the reason they leave from the OPT is that the Pacific Pearl is leaving from White Bay.....next time I will check before posting.:D

We have had taxi drivers who couldn't find Wharf 5 or wharf 8 at Darling Harbour, even when we showed them photos taken from the plane showing the ship docked, the Harbour Bridge etc.

If we are on a cruise leaving from White Bay I will check the name of the street. That is all the taxi drivers can go from as they work from a GPS.

Very few hotels in Balmain, mostly pubs. One was owned by Dawn Frazer. Streets are very narrow. Lots of cafe's etc. Bit of a trendies place. There is a regular bus service and ferry to Balmain East but nowhere handy to the new terminal. I guess you could take the loooong walk over Anzac Bridge:eek:

Fastest taxi ride would be from the 4 Points by Sheraton in Sussex St, City. Straight onto the flyover to Anzac Bridge and onto the new service road to the terminal - about 10 minutes. Alternatively, try the Novatel, Ibis etc on Murray St, Pyrmont or even The Star Casino Hotel & Apartments in Pyrmont.

Take the 441 or 442 bus from QVB and get off as the bus turns off Victoria Rd. walk down Robert St. about 1.5 km to ship. Just like walking around the deck 3 times.

On P&O's site the other day they said embarkation will be staggered. Wonder how well that's going to work with people turning up at the wrong time, early, late, dependant on transport etc. At least I'm not going till late May, hope the wrinkles are sorted by then!!

Not much point giving them a street address, just take a copy of the Port Authority map. Can't get in via the Roberts Rd gate on cruise days:mad: have to use the special service road under the Anzac bridge.

A quote from the latest NSW Taxi Magazine: "45% (of Passengers) will require taxis to and from the terminal because there is no other mode of transport,”

Full article: at http://www.nswtaxi.org.au/meter/Meter_AprMay_WEB.pdf

When it opens in mid-April, Sydney’s new cruise terminal at White Bay is forecast to be one of the highest demand areas for taxis in Sydney after the Airport

The Terminal replaces the temporary cruise facility at Barangaroo which permanently closes on Monday 1 April to make way for the major Barangaroo development.

The first ship – the Pacific Pearl – arrives early morning on Monday 15 April and departs around 4.30 in the afternoon.

Be advised there is only one entry point for taxis to White Bay Cruise Terminal – drivers must enter from The Crescent at Rozelle, turning onto James Craig road and then continuing on Sommerville road to the dedicated taxi rank and queuing area.

There is no access to the new terminal from Robert Street Rozelle. Variable message boards and traffic marshals will be onsite to assist drivers.

The peak time to pick up passengers disembarking is from 7:30am to 10:00am, while the drop off time for passengers check in will be from 11:30am.

Taxi networks will be distributing information brochures in April.

Terminal operators and the NSW Taxi Council are forecasting that the area will be extremely high demand for cabs.

“There are around 4,800 passengers on each ship and of those around 45% will require taxis to and from the terminal because there is no other mode of transport,” said NSW Taxi Council CEO, Roy Wakelin-King. “I would encourage all taxi drivers to familiarise themselves with the peak times for demand and the access maps so that the provision of taxi services can be a positive talking point for tourists docking in Sydney.”

Will all cruise ships leave from this new terminal?

Am sailing Radiance of the Seas in Nov, booked hotel near Circular Quay to be handy and watch ship come in. Now I'm thinking perhaps I made a boo boo.
