we honeymooned on this ship in 1998, this video helped us decide...

We sailed on the Mercury in March of 1998. It was our first "upscale" cruise. Thanks so much for posting this it brought back great memories.

We were only on the Mercury three times, but have the fondest of memories. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting the video. I can't remember the name of the Social Hostess who spoke in the video but she was Celebrity's star hostess, she opened up all the new ships. She left Celebrity and went to one of the smaller upscale lines, don't remember which one.

Also, struck by the waiters taking the trays after you got your food in the buffet. They did that for everyone, now they don't even have trays on the S class ships.

Dining was so simple then, you just went to the MDR and ate.

Thanks for posting! I loved the Mercury and was lucky enough to do a B2B on her in Alaska. It was a perfect cruise.

Thanks for posting this. Mercury was my first ship and some friends had one of the sky suites shown (with the large balcony). Got me hooked on cruising!

The Social Hostess' name is Amanda Reid. Last I heard, she was working for Cunard. She was always delightful. Did you know her presence can still be found on M-Class ships ? It's a great Celebrity trivia question :)

I really loved this ship and her sister GALAXY. My last cruise on MERCURY was December 2010 from Baltimore. She looked almost exactly the same as she did a decade before when I first set foot on her.

She is sorely missed.

Mercury remains my favorite ship of all time. I'm still saddened that RCI couldn't see a future for her or Galaxy within the X fleet. With a gentle upgrade akin to what Century received they could have opened many new routes with these ships as the Solstice class came onboard.

Thank you for sharing video and photos, they bring back great memories for us as well. We still have souvenir beverage glasses that are shown in video. :)

Such great service. I remember when boarding they would greet each guest and escort you to your cabin along with carrying trays at buffet.

Mercury was one of our favorites as well. Loved that t-pool!

We sailed her 8 times in the final year. Her last cruise under Mercury was fun and sad. Best crew before of since!!!

Watching this video was bittersweet - seeing this reminds you of all the elements that made Celebrity truly a cut above.

Remember the cuisine of Michel Roux and lemons wrapped in cloth and green beans tied with a green bean? Remember when you didn't need a specialty restaurant because the quality and variety in the main dining room were so good? Remember arguing with waiters who insisted on carrying your tray in the buffet (I was 35 years old when Mercury debuted!)

Remember cabins with actual drawers and shelves to store your stuff?

Unfortunately, this video shows why I have drifted towards Azamara and Oceania among others. I'm still trying to equal those early Celebrity years and after about 34 Celebrity cruises, the current version doesn't really work for me anymore.
