Majesty of the Seas-What is the real story?

I'm not sure what you're looking for about the casino. But, they have one. I found the staff to be very friendly. I've spent a good bit of time at the 3-card poker table. Won some....lost some. So...it's basically a casino.

Looking for odds on craps and if they allow hop bets?

How many tables?

Is it always crowded or can you find a seat easily.

And atmosphere? (you said staff was friendly which is a good thing)

LOL...I have zero clue on odds or numbers of tables...sorry. Alcohol was generally involved, so any counts that were taken were promptly forgotten.

I never had a problem getting a seat, and b/c it's a smaller ship, and the casino is smaller, I found it to be rather festive. You can hear people cheering from the various tables, etc.

The staff was always very polite and friendly, chatting with the players at the table. And, offering advice on rules to new people.

Geez...now I want to get back on the Majesty. You are not helping my savings account! LOL!

Is it a nice ship with great food?

Or a dump that should be laid to rest in the bottom of the ocean?

I am getting mixed reviews when I do a search. A lot of the reviews I am finding are older. I am looking to book another cruise. The itinerary is actually key to all of this. (Also the casino :D)

The schedule for other cruiselines in Key West and Nassau, SUCK!!!!!

However, the one for Majesty of the Seas is great allowing LOTS of time for both places.

So what is the real story here? Anyone? Buehler? Here ye Here ye! :D

You have several better options. Do not book that ship. There is nothing special about it. Not sure when you are going but there is the NCL SKY, RCCL Jewel is doing a 3 day trip in November, RCCL Enchantment.

Than you so much for your honest feedback. I need to hear the good and the bad. Was there anyhing specific that really turned you off?

My wife and I sailed the Majesty this past March...we had sailed with Royal Caribbean last year on Serenade of the Seas, so I knew this cruiseship would be different...we had an oceanview cabin and it was quite fine...sure, the cabins aren't huge, but really...how much time do you really spend in it...it was quite sufficient for the two of us and we slept quite well....the food on board....I found it to be quite good...really...some people on these boards complain about the littlest things and try to turn others off with their rants ( but no raves)....we enjoyed ourselves doing traditional for the first time (MTD on Serenade)....the casino...not huge by land standards, but quite sufficient....I didn't play any tables this time but did score a few hundred bucks on the slots...I walked away happy...I'm sure you will have a good time on the Majesty....the ship looks good, the food was good and in fact...everything was good....I would sail on this ship again

Did a Back2Back on Majesty on 9/7 and 9/11. She was our first cruise and I been on her 5 times already. She is in terrific shape fo 17 years old. The staff are wonderfus and the foo is prepaired well. Many of the crew have been on her for years and when asked they really enjoy it. Our waiter the last time was on her for 15 years. If you go before February, visit Carol in the Schooner Bar, she is wonderful. Cabins are small, Book a SO of JS if you can get a good deal. She is the Perfect size ship, especially for a 3 or 4 night trip.

The ship is just tired, boring, nothing special. Why settle for basically a ferry to the Bahamas when there are so many other better options. Most of the people who say something nice about Majesty are people who are fond of it because it was their first ship or they live in Florida and its a cheap weekend trip. Notice also words like "for its age" or for what its used for (3 day ) short trips. If you are not desperate for a cruise, take your time, evaluate your options, just dont blow it by choosing that thing. I will say one thing positive, the ship does have a fantastic crew. Please Keep in mind there is a reason why RCCL is jettisoning it from their fleet....the reason is because it is done, time to become razor blades or at best a casino boat. For the record there are only 3 ships I will never sail again. Majesty of the Seas, NCL Majesty and Carnival Fantasy.

You'll be x-rayed (if I remember correctly) when you reboard so I don't THINK you can bring on the key lime pie...it may have to be smuggled (and smushed).

Interiors don't have fridges, but my Superior Ocean View did. But NO cabin on any RCI ship has a "refrigerator." They're more like..."crappy coolers."

Apparently if you keep the cabinet door open (not the fridge door, the cabinet door) the fridge will be cooler. I just kept soda on ice in the ice bucket.

The casino is VEEEERRRRRRY small. I didn't look at many tables but i took note of the Texas Hold 'Em table cuz I love that game. It was always packed (partially because Majesty doesn't have any days at sea so it's only open at night) to the point of having an obvious wait list because whenever someone left, they'd announce the next person in line to sit over the speakers.

It was my 7th/8th cruise (B2B in Feb). My sister joined me on the 2nd half. She hadn't cruised since a Costa cruise in 1980 so she might as well have been a cruise virgin. MANY times I found myself saying, "It's not like this on the new, big ships," for whatever reason. Small centrum, no staircase in the MDR, no solarium, whatever. If you've cruised before, there's very little "wow factor." I do think it's a beautiful ship but...

Anyway, here's my quite positive review and a few pictures if you're interested. There are VERY few pix because you can only put 6 pix into a post and I didn't even THINK to break each day up into its own post. DUH.

We just completed our third Majesty cruise and have another booked. Have also been on Monarch, her sister.

She is not your basic ferry to the Bahamas.

Yes, she is older and smaller. But the 2007 multi-million dollar dry docking in Freeport took out the older. We were on her cruise just before the dry docking and saw the 'before' and 'after'.

Our JS was completely refurbished. Nice granite surfaces in the bathroom, shower with tub. Plenty of storage space. Flat screen TV. Coffee pot with Seattle's best coffee, and tea pot with Lipton tea. A small fridge, that kept the chocolate covered strawberries fresh for 3 days. We had plenty of space in this cabin (1088). RCCL site reads 173 sq ft, with balcony 60 sq ft. Seemed just a bit larger to us. A pull out bed under the couch would sleep two more.

The dining last week was outstanding. Never a problem in the MDR. Most nights the menu looked so good that you did not know what to order. Your waiter can help you there. Lunch in WJ was fine. Many don't realize it, but the WJ is actually in two sections - front and back. Most just jump in line as they enter the WJ, not knowing there is a bigger section just aft, a short 30 second walk. Check it out.

Breakfast and lunch are also offered in the MDR. Check the hours.

During the dry docking, the Compass Deli, Sorrento's Pizza, and Johnny Rockets were added. Nice options for lunch, snacks or a lite dinner.

They have no Chops or Portofino. Room service is 24 hours.

We are not gamblers and just stroll thru the casino and may on occasion drop $5 into the slots. That being said, have never seen the casino crowded. As mentioned above, it's not a huge casino, but serves the guests quite well.

There are two pool bars, one at each end of the two deck pools.

The Schooner Bar, Spectrum Lounge, Bolero's and Viking Crown Lounge provide evening entertainment as well as the nightly stage show. One night there is a Caribbean late nite buffet party on the pool deck.

On disembarking day, if you don't have an early flight, just hang out in the Schooner Bar until they chase you off the ship. The bartender will serve you Bloody Mary's or whatever you desire until you get off MJ.

Key West is a fun town. Do a little planning and you'll have a great day.

Nassau, check out Atlantis. Take a cab or the ferry. We prefer the ferry, it's a nice mini-cruise for $3 each way. Atlantis has a huge casino to fulfill your gambling needs. Of course, drinks and food are nearby.

In to aquariums? There are Manta Rays there that have at almost 10 ft wing spans. As well as huge sharks. They are next to the casino, as are shops galore. Pools and beach are nearby. Some of these are extra charge. Check it out.

The private island, Coco Cay, is a nice quiet day at the beach, with food and drinks. The more further away you get from the tender drop off, the more quiet and relaxing it gets, if you want that. If not, hang local with a couple of drinking spots there.

We've been on many of the bigger ships, most recently Voyager. Honestly, we've had as much fun on MJ, maybe more, than the bigger ships. Size does not matter when we cruise.

Yo Eleven - You keep asking about balcony cabins. From what I am reading on RCI's site, there are no balcony cabins on Majesty. The only balconies are with the suites. My wife and I just booked it for next March. When do you plan on being on her? She is scheduled for dry dock in early February so she be in in even better shape when we board in March.

Thank you for your review of the ship. I do appreciate the so called rants that people make as I COULD actually share their feelings. I wanna hear the good and the bad no matter how little things are. Sometimes the little things will bug me as well. :D

That is good that there isn't a huge turnaround with the crew. Makes for happier sailing. Thanks for the review.

I think you will have a seriously hard time going from the biggest to the smallest ship in the fleet. Lack of options come to mind - not to mention her age and size.

My vote goes to the Navigator.

Got your vote for the Navigator. On your Navigator cruise what was your itinerary and how long did you go? The 4/5 nighter ports of call are very limited.

Thank you for the explanation here. I am definitely exploring other options for 4/5 nighters. Both with other RCCL and other cruise lines. I checked out Carnival and their times that they dock in their ports of call don't appeal to me. There is one 4 or 5 day on celebrity that i need to look into but haven't heard much about it. It seems the 4 or 5 day is scarce. There is navigator but I don't want to just go to one port (cozumel) when sailing a 4 day cruise. Any other options that I am missing out?

The note about the crew being fantastic is a huge plus for it though.

When you went on the majesty though what were your ports of call? I am curious. Thumbs up my friend!

Thanks so much for linking the review. This will help a lot.

If you can't bring key lime pie then that would stink. I don't know what the big deal would be as you are taking it from Key West to Miami. Right? Are they worried about island bugs or something? :p

Yup-yer right! No balconies on majesty. Huge price difference though to go to the suite level. Don't know if it is worth it.

Any reason why they would put it in dry dock again only after two years of it being remodeled?

You must live in Florida as I see all the local ships in your signature. Have you tried the Palm Beach Princess casino day cruise? Food is great on that ship and once you become a gold member you sail for free. Anyways back to the Majesty, I heard someone ramble on about the multi million dollar refurb, yeah I went on that right after that was completed. I equate it to putting lipstick on a pig. The NCL SKy is the new ship in town getting good reviews, I will be on it in a couple weeks. I went on the 5 day Navigater and it stopped in Belize as well as Cozumel. The short trips are limited so where do you really really want to go? This will narrow the options. November 6 is the 3 day Jewel of the Seas Sailing to Nassua, Key West, to me this is probably the best 3 day out there short term.

Is it a nice ship with great food?

Or a dump that should be laid to rest in the bottom of the ocean?

However, the one for Majesty of the Seas is great allowing LOTS of time for both places.

Hey-I go on that Palm Beach Princess often. Are you local? That ship is on its way out though. They are running on two auxillary engines and it takes 1 hour now to get to the three mile limit. Supposedly the ship is not fixable and doomed. I hear they are trying to figure out how to lease "Sea Escape" which is sitting at some dock doing nothing now.

As for the Lipstick on the Pig boat. LOL! Interesting description. I do like going to ports of call and exploring. It is one part of the cruising experience I enjoy. As well as the food. A solid knowledgeable casino on board is nice to have as well. I won't be sailing again until January. So the Jewel would be out. I do like Cozumel, but can totally handle key west and nassau local itinerary. I can always eat key lime pie. :p

I will have to check out the Belize/Cozumel option on navigator. Didn't look at that one. I didn't consider NCL Sky as I heard the food is HORRIBLE. Food is major breaking point for me when cruising and if it is as bad as they say I don't want any part. I will check out the intinerary though. Have you heard any different regarding that ship's food though? I guess if you could eat in the specialty restaurants but that is a pain if you are sailing with little kids. I think it is rude to bring kids there plus a lot of times these specialty restaurants don't allow them.

Let me go take a look at some more options as you suggested. Thanks!

All of the casinos on RCI have single odds craps, except for maybe one night they will have double odds. I would think that since you are so worried about the casino, you would be jumping at the chance to go to one of the several casinos on Paradise Island. Atlantis will be more than happy to let you bet what you want, and their craps tables are like Vegas with up to 10 times odds. You also won't have to worry about how much money you can get there for the day either. They will be happy to give you all you wish, whether it be by travelers checks, or credit card advances. If you are cruising because you think the casinos are that enticing, then I'd stick to Vegas, or Atlantic city.

Yes, indeed I will be heading to Atlantis or other casinos in Nassau. The majesty is in Nassau for awhile so I have plenty of time to take care of business.

But it is nice to have a place to toss my chips around at 1am on the ship. LOL! But I do like the other aspects of cruising though aside from the casino hence why I like going on the ships.

Single odds on all the RCCL ships. That really blows. One red X awarded for the casino.
