..no fares listed but site does say contact your TA or SS to book..do know two cruise journalists are on board this short voyage (The Expert Cruiser and The Avid Cruiser) so we can expect to get their blog posts & pics (20-22 Dec)...if you have any Spirit questions for them, you can email them and they will respond quickly.

Strange that they waited so long to open that trip for booking. I noticed that they don't list any fare info for it. I guess the trip from Ancona-Monaco will be mostly crew training and company dignitaries. From Monaco-Barcelona is only an overnight trip and will probably only be for curiousity seekers and media, since the trip from Barcelona-Lisbon is fully booked.

Silversea's website shows they overnight in Monte Carlo, departing 12/21 at 3pm, arriving Barcelona the next day at noon, then overnighting in Barcelona.

Love@cruise, Craig, and others, are we going to organize a cocktail party or wing it? We are in 606 and will be online daily if anyone writes to us. Right now, Todd is sick, and I am trying my best to get him to take his antibiotics to get better by the 20th. We are exhausted and busy and all that but can't wait for this. I think he is getting on the tail end and getting well.

We aren't used to or prepared for the 40s and 50s except here in Houston, we are having those unusual temps (though I have not been home till yesterday to experience it), so we can wing it. I just want to see and experience all the new stuff.

So, our cruise docs finally arrived!! Yippee! The folder is a leatheresque folder with a zipper (as opposed to the snaps of recent cruises) with "Silver Spirit Inaugural Season" printed on it.

In the box came the normal luggage tags and "journal" which also outlines the tours. What was a tad odd was that the "Setting Sail" booklet, which has been a booklet in the past, is the booklet Xeroxed on to nice paper.

(Yippee!)

To Debbie, Doug, Craig, and everyone else we have come to "meet" on this board: with great sadness we have had to cancel our cruise aboard the Spirit. IMMEDIATELY after booking the btb segments, Mrlove@cruise had an accident and broke ribs, unabling us to travel for 8 weeks. He is doing well and ahead of schedule .... SS has been very kind and rebooked us on the roundtrip LA to LA in February aboard the Shadow. So instead of 50 degree weather, we will experience 70's and 80's in the South Pacific. I look forward to your reviews, and will do the same from Shadow!

We'll miss you Mary and Mike. Sorry to hear the news. I think you'll really enjoy the Pacific cruise aboard Shadow. We did essentially that same cruise on the Seven Seas Mariner in late Sep-mid Oct '04, except that it was SFO-SFO. We rate it as one of the best of our cruises.

So sorry that you have had to cancel your cruise on the Spirit. We met briefly on the Mexico cruise last September and

look forward to cruising with you on the February cruise.

Only hurts when I laugh, Colonel, only when I laugh. But I seem to be doing more of that lately so things could be worse =)

We are gingerly waiting for first hand account on the Spirit in the next several weeks. Just from the reading on the internet, we gather the following:

1. The Spirit's standard cabins will be slightly larger than the Shadow/Whisper's. It will be less "polished" (no curves or other features of elegance), but more futuristic and perhaps functional (with two TVs, one facing the bed and the other in the sitting area, which is an improvement).

2. The ship has more restaurants, which is good and even necessary for those odysseys and world cruises. No matter how good the "standard" food is, after a while, you would want some variety. The increase in variety offered by a larger ship is an asset, and Silversea would be wise to send this ship on most long voyages (except perhaps those Summer weeklies when they need the volume for more passengers).

3. The new lounge (not theatre) is definitely inferior to the Shadow/Whisper's, being single storeyed, have no real stage, can only sit around 60% of the passenger load in camera. There is discussion on how important this factor is, those of you going to taste it for yourselves can report back on this board.

4. The public areas per passenger will be reduced, having roughly the same total public area as the Shadow/Whisper but serving 540 instead pf 382 passengers. Whether this will create bottle necks (especially the buffet restaurant on a rainy, windy day) or not again should be an item for those of you lucky enough to be boarding soon to report on.

We are sure that cruise lines and design architects are professionals who know what they are doing. We just hope that their design is not overly tempered by the world economic situation. After all, the Shadow/Whisper had their gestation at the peak of the cycle at the turn of the millennium, while the Spirit at the world economic tsunami. Well, these facts of life may have its imprint too, just how much and in what way, we will wait for you folks to tell the rest of us. We are hoping that perhaps we might be able to hop on this ship for a cheap Caribbean itinerary in November, 2010 to make some measurements ourselves .. meow!

ColonelWes

Thankx for posting this link...I found it very interesting. It would be great if someone could post some prices for these new treatments especially "BOTOX Cosmetic and the dermal fillers Restylane and Perlane". I'd like to make some comparisons to prices in Australia.

Thankx very much.

Cheers

Thankx for this info ColonelWes - it isn't greek to me:). As expected, they are fairly pricey - more expensive than here.

Was there any pricing on BOTOX - probably not considering it's usually costed in units depending on how much is used.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about the spa treatments when the ship finally sails.

Cheers

Laughing, sneezing, coughing, picking up the dog and (sad to admit) rising out of bed in the morning are the worst. However, by the time the dog (Rally =) and I have ourselves together enough to take our morning walk, all is well. As Rally always tells me on our walks, "you can't keep a good dog down."

Meow, it is called The Theatre in the slides, anyway, looks like more than 60 seats to me. I have all the info from a slide show that I have sent a few people, but you have to either email me or send me your email address. It compares some other things and gives some numbers, too. I am sure you would find it interesting.
