Voyager World Cruise

We are leaving now.

Wonderful Captain Dag is the Captain. The delay was due to provisions coming aboard plus some longshoremen problems. They are on their way and next stop will be Nuku Hiva. How wonderful for everyone on the cruise to be on such a great ship. How lucky they are.

Karen and I embark today on the Voyager for the World Cruise. I will be posting a journal and photos at: http://2010voyagerworldcruise.shutterfly.com

If one joins this free Shutterfly “share” site, then I will be able to respond directly via e-mail to any comments or questions. Plus, members (if they desire) can receive e-mail notifications when new entries are posted.

Though I primarily plan use the Shutterfly site, I will post here on CC, from time to time, and attempt to answer questions CC members may have.

We look forward to meeting some old friends, staff and crew this afternoon – and making many new friends as we begin another grand adventure.

In as much as this is the first cruise in the new year with the new dress code...I am very curious as to the proportion of formal to semi formal (for the men)as for the females., I would venture a guess that they are pretty much "dressed up" comments/please

Larry, thanks for posting your WC blog link..look forward to reading once we

disembark. Gave Mark Farris (pianist on board SS Spirit) Karen and your

warm regards. Mark remembers you both fondly, and asked me to pass his best regards back.

Wes...so glad you had such a fine cruise with the Burns'...hope you enjoy our posts. Best.

Yes...on the first "formal optional" evening a very good proportion of the pax were in fomral attire (incluujding us) or men with dark suits. Since such a large proportion of the guests have cruised extensively on Regent before, I don't think that will change too much, at least on this year's WC. We shall see.

We are on WC also and will be having dinner tomorrow (Monday) night with Larry and Karen. Just plotted our position and we are half way to first port of call. Now about 6pm Sunday. As you may expect so far everything has been fabulous. I am also doing blog so here it is if you are interested: www.weilerworldcruise2010.blogspot.com

Will also have our safari photos posted when we hit Africa. Will leave ship in Richards Bay for 4 days, do Leopard Hills safari, then rejoing ship as it arrives in Cape Town. Paula, another CC person, has also booked same safari itinerary as us. I am sitting out on our balcony writing this post in the dark now. Hotspot is suites is marvelous.

I am enjoying your blog, as I am Larry's. Thank you for keeping us up-to-date and interested. Looking at the pictures you posted I spotted someone my wife and I met on our Norwegian cruise in the summer. He is your friend from Dallas, Allen. Perhaps he may remember a decrepit old Brit with a wife of limited mobility, in a wheelchair. We spoke several times but particularly he came to say goodbye as we were disembarking in Copenhagen and he was staying on for the Baltics cruise.

Rick asked Dana to schedule a get together for all fans of Cruise Critic currently on the Voyager. She did and about 14-16 of us got together today for about 30 min. or so in Horizons. Some of the folks are regular posters, some primarily lurkers and a couple just wanted to come learn what Cruise Critic is all about. Those of us who are currently doing daily blogs shared our website addresses. And there was a good exchange of information. So far, all but one of the attendees seemed to be enjoying the Regent experience.

We hit our first port tomorrow morning...Nuku Hiva in The Marquesas.

Crossed the equator last night...had the first timer ceremony on the pool deck today where the polliwogs became shell backs. Morning shower just before the ceremony, but rest of the day has been sunny and 80F -- but fairly steady winds, white caps and ship rolling...the pool is really sloshing around.

Cheers,

hello fellow cruisers (both those in body and those in spirit)!!!

heading to p7 in about 3 minutes; very brief post here.

formal optional was almost _all_ formal.

even the "elegant casual" nights, most men are wearing blazers. i certainly am.

anyone who has anything to complain about must simply be _looking_ for something to complain about! no disrespect; i was often that way before i mellowed and learned to appreciate life more.

Leno was much better than i expected, as were the Beach Boys.

Nuka Hiva tomorrow.

oh, i am now a Trusty Shellback.

concert pianist Panos Karan is some of the best talent i've ever seen on Regent! and only like 28 yrs old?!?!

cheers and no tears!!!!

David

top deck by the grace of God -- close to the pool and obso lounge!!!!

p.s. also, i turned 51 today! will wonders never cease........:)

... even won in the casino last night ...

If you are following my blog then you know about the nasty storm we are in today. Winds 50 to 60 mph so no one allowed outside on decks. We are on Deck 6 and one wave came up on our balcony (that's probably 60 feet above the water line). Ship is being tossed about like leaf in the wind. Talked to Chief Engineer and engines are at max and ship can only make 12 knots speed due to high waves. As a result at 4pm Capt Dag announced we will be too late arriving in Samoa tomorrow so we are skipping it and proceeding directly to Fiji now. I have no idea how the dining room staff will be able to serve dinner tonight. We are really rocking and rolling!! At lunch in La Veranda I had to hold onto the table with one hand or chair would go over backwards. Not many eating today. I have two patches on and wrist bands.

Yep...we are certainly rocking and rolling...now that we have turned a bit west southwest towards Fiji, though the waves are still big, we seem to be riding them a bit better.

Today a good place for photos was looking out the Casino windows on Deck 5 and outside aft of the Horizon Lounge on Deck 5 lookling up the starboard side of the ship. On shots from the TV camera looking forward one could see the waves and spray breaking over the starboard side of the bow.

Looks like we may be in this system all night.I am doing fine, but Karen is a just a bit woozy. Laying down is a wise move.

I have two patches on and wrist bands.

Be careful with those patches and wrist bands! Years ago while working on the Royal Viking Sea, we had a lady on a cruise who started acting weird. She even showed up at the reception desk totally naked (luckily it was the middle of the night). The doctor was sent to check on her and it turns out she was wearing two patches. She ended up spending several days in the ship's hospital because of the effects. She was very sick.

You might want to try the seasick pills that they have onboard. Ask at the Guest Services Desk. They should have them. They work great with no ill effects. I want you to enjoy your cruise!

Sounds like some fun seas.

We find the best place to eat in rough weather is Compass Rose (lower and mid ship). Some days we have been one of the few groups there. But it makes for a very relaxing lunch if you are not affected by the motion.

I hope you guys are all feeling well with all the movement. I got complacent on Voyager in December, and on the last day we got quite big swells and I had to miss dinner! It was packing night and I had to get room service, what a drag. Nexxt time, it will be drugs all the way!

Interesting story BeenThere2. Much better today. I cut patches in half and ususally only wear half behind one ear. Yesterday I had half behind both ears. Our poor little stewardess was sick yesterday. Today she said half of her suites did as we did and put "privacy" sign out so she would not have to clean last night. She was very grateful.

I cut patches in half and ususally only wear half behind one ear.......

Generally it is not a good idea to cut any patch in half unless specifically prescribed. They are not designed to work that way. The patch is made in layers. The medicine is sandwiched in a layer away from the skin and seeps through the bottom layer at a prescribed rate. Cutting the patch can allow the medicine to leak out and overdose.

Thanks JMariner for that excellent illustration;very interesting! 1+ re: cutting in half and 1+ in not wearing two patches due to increasing side effects. Luckily all seems to have worked out well for both our sailor and the seas.

Aren't we lucky. Two superb diaries of a Voyager World cruise which I am following with avid interest. Larry1365 and sevenseassailor can both make their journey come to life with great penmanship and both blogs have superb photos. For anyone who has not been on Voyager, there are some fine internal pictures just been posted on sevenseassailor's site. And to add another perspective we also get occasional contributions from other World Cruisers on various threads.

Thank you all for making the time to entertain us. I appreciate your efforts.
