Maiden Crossing Le Champagne Situation..solution?

I so agree. It is up to management. They really need to do some thinking about situations such as this. Las Vegas deals with this everyday and worse. Perhaps SS needs to send their staff there for some training. It is just wrong for SS to ignore such behavior and to expect their other guests to tolerate this or do their "dirty work" for them. Thanks for correcting my spelling, Spanish is not my second language.:) Hope to meet you some day.

Hopefully someone who was present when these two Buffoons were making life miserable for others around them has written to Silversea regarding this matter. I read good things about this particular Maitre d from earlier posts concerning this restaurant. He may be a nice enough guy, but he is obviosly out of his league when the going gets difficult. Hopefully someone from Silversea is reading this blog.:mad:

Palomoh, on Saturday (23 Jan) , I sent Brad Ball (SS PR director), Ken Watson (COO) and the Information Desk at SS the link to this thread and requested they develop an appropriate action plan to deal with inappropriate behavior when consistently presented in a public dining venue. I also asked our TA to ask Silversea leadership to look into this situation and develop an appropriate action plan. Hopefully, will get a reply from someone at SS or our TA. Will post any developments worth sharing

Colonel, I agree with everything said so far regearding management needing to manage. Some one (I forget who) said this couple had a "standing reservation at Le Champagne." How can that be? Who are these people to have such a thing? And if that is true, is their tarrif worth more than the other guests combined?

For all concerned - except the noisy and vulgar couple themselves - this was a nasty experience. The Maître d'Hôtel has a real responsibility here to address it. And from what Wes said he certainly saw enough examples of it!

I dealt with all sorts of travellers in my long career in educational travel. Had this occured on one of the programmes I was responsible for I would have expect the Maîte d'Hôtel to speak quietly with the passengers involved and ask them to moderate both their voices and language used. Were this to re-occur, I would expect the next in the chain of command to meet with them - not at the venue and not at dinner but in his office.

Failing all else, they should have been refused dining tables at any venue and asked to leave the ship at the next port...

I do not believe that tolerating this kind of behaviour has anything to do with "American democracy" !! And anyway, you were on the high seas in international waters. A restaurant is a public space and rude and offensive behaviour in a public space should not be tolerated. Full stop!

The problem you will find on any cruise ship is that if staff do or say something to a guest and the guest is not happy about it, then the cruise line will not back the actions of the member of staff. So the staff are reluctent to deal with awkward situations.

Cruise lines are very careful not to upset any fare paying guest because they need to fill the ships and competition is fierce.I have stepped in on a few occasions when some things have become awkward or embarrassing for a member of staff.I am certainly not saying that this is the right approach by the cruise lines.

I believe that is the word you mean. It does mean testicles in Spanish...........glad you clarified your post. You seemed to be saying if the offended party does not confront the offender, he (or she) is a "milktoast" - so to speak.

In our long lives, my DH and I have learned by experience. We were in a bar once, having come to hear a jazz singer we particularly liked. We were in our 50's at the time. There was a table of four younger people right in front of the singer, laughing - talking - not paying any attention to the singer, who was gamely trying to continue to sing. Highly disruptive, to say the least. We asked the manager to say something to the offending party - he did, and they continued talking loudly and laughing. They just began to glare in our direction. We tried to ignore them, but we were not about to escalate any conflict by approaching them ourselves. When they left, one man loomed over our table and my husband stood up. Somehow a glass got broken, but no blows were exchanged......they left, and someone from the bar offered to escort us to our car when we left, in case one of the party was lurking nearby..........bad experience, needless to say.

I'm sure we all have stories we could tell about confrontations that got out of hand.

It is management's job to discourage and deal with this kind of boorish behavior - whether in a bar, or on a cruise ship.

I agree.....

This is not true in all cases. I had a situation several years ago with an inebriated passenger. Lets just say that Seabourn Cruise Line officer took care of it on the spot.

(I know, not SilverSea, but you were generalizing).

The security officer did remove an inebriated and unclothed (I was told by multiple pax and staff who witnessed it) woman from the jacuzzi/pool after she was extremely loud, as I say, unclothed, and ultimately fell face first into the pool. This was on the Spirit on the maiden TA.

Oh my! I'm glad I missed it.

Thanks Wes for your iniative in this situation, particularly for bringing it to the attention of CC reviewers. You have done a very valuable service to all future cruisers with Silversea. Most gratifying to learn that you have written Silversea regarding this situation. Maybe it will generate others who witnessed this to do so also. This type of thing just creates a feeling of being violated. Everyone here who have voiced their opinions are true Silversae folks who belive in a true Silversea experience Thanks again Wes. Someday I hope our paths will cross. By the way I am Army true and Blue as well:)
