Kurbanfan Posted February 10, 2010 #177 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Alot of people don't realize that cigarette smoke is an irritant, not an allergin...so much for the I'm "allergic" crowd...they may be sensitive to the irritation, but they are not allergic to it. Smoke can trigger flare ups.........which will cause the same symptoms.........but that's ok because it is not an allergin:confused:

kyrisong1 Posted February 10, 2010 #185 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I'm not a smoker, but your on the balcony, in the open air, I mean both parties paid for the trip, so both should be able to enjoy themselves. I know a lot of asthma sufferers that are very irritated by smells, and smoke does seem to be a trigger, but if I were a person that had that problem I think I would carry a small fan around, if someone is smoking and the wind is blowing to toward me then I could just set my fan up to blow it away, problem solved. I like the smell of GOOD cigars, and truthfully smoke smells do not bother me at all and I am an exsmoker, it took about a year for me to get over the cravings after that, no problem. I think the world could be situated for both smokers and non smokers rights and comfort if people were a little less rabid. Anyway I seriously doubt it will ever be solved on CC, there will always be disagreement on this subject.
John&John Posted February 10, 2010 #186 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Yep' date=' it's fair. YOU have choices. There are plenty of ships where smoking is severely restricted or prohibited...... Try one.[/quote'] Maybe we'd rather try to convince Carnival to change their policies. On the Dream they have this to say: Although smoking is permitted in cabins and on balconies, it is discouraged as a safety precaution and courtesy to the next occupants of your stateroom. Please note all Spa Suites are smoke free. This is the first step in making cabins and balconies smoke free.

John&John Posted February 10, 2010 #189 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I agree wholeheartedly....I'm a non-smoker but might take it up on a ship just to annoy. And you wonder why we all can't play together nicely! :D
John&John Posted February 10, 2010 #190 Share Posted February 10, 2010 REALLY sick of this crap. i'm an american, and i have my rights, you may not like them and if you don't, push for legistlation that changes them. but for now... i smoke and you're "not pretty" (scaled down to be PC). difference is, i can quit. there. Being an American has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you can smoke on a Carnival ship at sea. And I don't recall the phrase, the right to bear arms and he right to smoke... :D

floridacruzin Posted February 10, 2010 #192 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I am not a smoker(thought you would like to know) and would rather smell the smoke than listen to the obnoxious drunks that run up and down the halls at all hours of the night....yeah I know I can call security, but I am already woken up from their drunken selfishness The smell of someone elses cigar or cigarette smoke has never woken me up from a sleep..... John&John Posted February 10, 2010 #197 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Evidently you have not read the information that smoke's only an irritant' date=' not an allergen. Here, let me help ya: http://ezinearticles.com/?Are-You-Allergic-to-Cigarette-Smoke?&id=3138213 http://ask.doctoroz.com/question/is-cigarette-smoke-an-allergen These'll get ya kick started.[/quote'] Now you are picking at words - an irritant that can irritate an existing allergy. The leap to allergic to smoke isn't that far... Does it matter if anyone is actually allergic to smoke or just irritated? Doesn't sound pleasant to be irritated by smoke! jsgrandma Posted February 10, 2010 #198 Share Posted February 10, 2010 If you smell smoke, whatever the source, and you don't like it, complain early and often to security and the purser's desk. Enough complaints will get the job done. Or pull the fire alarms:)
