After things quiet down, to go out on the Aft Lido Pool Deck and have the Ship & the Ocean & the Stars to yourself . . . . . .

Life can be so good . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I'll second that. Especially being escorted by the one you love. Nothing more romantic than the entire promenade deck to yourselves. :)

Yes you can! I recall on the Westerdam that a few of us sat in the atrium area and just talked. This was until about 2 a.m. in the morning.
Could one order room service and have it delivered somewhere besides your cabin ? IE could you hve it delivered to the lido pool at 3am, for example ?
Only a very rare exception, can you have Room Service delivered anywhere but your room. Also, you must be there when the steward comes to deliver it. He does not have a key to the cabins and if you are not present, he cannot leave the food. Throughout our cruising, only once do I recall our cabin steward let the room service steward into our cabin and that was because he had just seen us go down for Immigration Inspection. He knew where we were and that we would be returning soon as we had told him.

It was very late one night when a friend was still chatting in the Ocean Bar, and he got the munchies. Called Room Service for a delivery there.
Boy, did he hear about it!

Never tried that trick again. :o

My suggestion was to order from the Ocean Bar, but give the penthouse cabin #. Then dash straight up to meet the tray, and bring it back down. :D
No. One morning in the Amazon all the self service coffee and hot water machines were out of order. We called down to room service and ordered coffe and tea for 20 which was all of us early risers. Within minutes a supervisor was up there to find out what was going on.
They not only dealt with the problem but from that morning on they delivered some of the baked good a few hours early for all of us. It was very nice of them.
- Speaking of coffee, do they sell insulated mugs on the ships and if so, anyone know how much the are? Also, can you fill them up with juice or coffee in the morning and bring it around with you or is that frowned upon?

Wow, reading my questions, apparently I'm very scared of messing with authority and rules!

Yes, you can get the "handled mugs" in the Explorations Cafe in 'HAL' and 'Explorations Cafe' colors - sorry, forgot the cost, about $5.00. Yes, they will fill them up or you there also (we had it done with hot chocolate 2 wks ago). They also sell the issulated, taller (and non-handled) blue HAL mugs in both the Explorations Cafe as well as in the Gift Shop.

You can most definitely fill up both with coffee/tea/water in the Lido (or in the Neptune), basically wherever there is self-service

Breakfast:
You been stealing my secrets, or what ? :D
They also have Grapefruit Juice, but it is not fresh squeezed like the OJ.
I also get an extra Milk (or 2) to keep in the fridge for taking my pills at night.
So much better than water ;)

Tamaracboy, I love Grapefruit juice and also half of grapefruit ocassionally for breakfast but it interferes with my statons. So I take that pill at night so I can have my half of grapefruit. Boy, the health goes to hell in a handbasket when you get into your seventies. Sorry I uncovered your secrets.:D Would you believe I cannot swallow a pill.:o I take all of mine with applesauce which I do have to bring from home. Never thought to ask if they have some on board.

I thought filling your own containers wasn't permitted in the Lido since it might spread noro and such.

I have the same issue with Statons, but I'm NOT going to give up Grapefruit or its juice. I just make sure I do them at opposite ends of the day.

As for Applesauce, "ask for it and it shall come"
And have you tried your pills with Ice Cream, hoping you have no issues with Lactose ?

I have an insulated HAL logo Mug with no handle.
Pretty sure I got it filled with Hot Chocolate on the Westerdam in Alaska.
It might have been combined with an offer of free refills.
It is very attractive in HAL Blue with white logo.
And, it is very useful.
Can not remember the cost.
But, I use the much bigger Logo drink bottle from HMC for my self mixed Iced Coffees from the Lido.
This one came filled with Pina Colada

That was my question... If I want coffee at 3-5 am on one of the 1st 1-3 days of the cruise, can I get self serve coffee in the Lido, DURING the Code red or Code Orange time period??

I know I can get it after the first 73 hours, but the 1st 72 are my worry....

If I had to guess I would say you could get your own. Surely there is some crew around the Lido if not? How many people are up and around in the wee hours?
I was eating around 6 each evening, so I was ready for a snack around 9. Both of the sides in the Lido were closed and there was never anyone available to get the ice cream. You would either have to call room service or wait until 10:30 for the late night service. Also, the cafes were all closed.
I know this thread is about "late night" snacks but who's to say what defines "late night"? ;)

We also found the early evening closing time in the Lido to be a disappointment. Sometimes we're not ready to eat DINNER until 9 or 9:30. When we do eat that late, we want a light, quick meal, not a sit down event.

I guess I just don't understand why the Lido doesn't stay open for dinner as late as the restaurants do. I'm sure there's a bu$iness reason for it, but it seems like a poor decision to me, a big gap in service. Just my opinion.

Guilty as charged. If my belt size gets any bigger, I'll have to borrow a rope from the crew

r.
A rope in nautical terms is called a line. :)

I looked in my closet the other day and found I had belts in 4 different lengths! My chest has been losing a battle with gravity. :(:o

As someone on this thread said, "Things fall apart after age 70". Yes, things go to H---, maybe that's why the "Dam" ships are popular.

On our cruise in February, Caribbean on Westerdam, there was no crew up and about, that I saw or heard until the pool guys came out at 5 am.

But, keep in mind that in February they had not yet instituted the 72 hour self serve restrictions, so coffee etc., was avaiable for me to get on my own. Now....... And reading about some ordering Room Service to be delivered other than their staterooms... I really am leery about doing that..

I have a thermos from HAL, but it and the coffee carafes, only keep the liquid inside hot for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours max, so ordering it the night before would not work well either.....

We always bring our thermal mugs because DH goes to the Lido first thing to get coffee even before room service arrives. They are easier to carry and they're large so it works well.

HOWEVER, it's important to know that during the first 48 or so hours during Code Red/Orange, the servers are not allowed to take the thermal cup, fill it and hand it back. They are not allowed to touch the cup you've touched.

So they filled a regular cup or two and DH transferred it (with some spillage:)) to the thermal cups.

Reuel is totally correct about asking for the applesauce you need, and it will be served. Ask for it on the main breakfast line. If you let them know it will be a daily request, they will have it ready for you.
If you want more for later, they will give you a bowlful, and cover it with plastic wrap.

A few years ago I needed applesauce for a pill every morning. As soon as the cook saw me coming he brought it out for me. He made it a contest with himself to see if he could have it ready to hand over before I got to him. :D

Use one of their cups or glasses and then pour it into your container.
HAL just doesn't want your container being used under the spigots since your container might inadvertently touch the spigot. But you can use their container (cup/glass) and then pour it into yours.
