Late Night Snacks on HAL

There is a very lavish snack buffet in the Lido until late. Then room service. And munchies in the bar, I suppose - Goldfish. How late is late? This is not typically a late hour cruise line. Do you think you will be disappointed with it being pretty quiet after the last show ends?

The lido buffet late service is from 11PM to Midnight. It does offer more than just snacks. Several staff such as the casino dealers actually have their 'lunch' there at that time. After that, the only thing on the ship available other than through room service, is coffee and tea until AM. The casino may have some snacks, although I cannot tell from personal experience.

HAL ships get very quiet in general after midnight, so there is little need to offer an open-all-night eatery like found on RCI or NCL.

We were on the Oosterdam Alaska cruise last week, and the ship was very busy late at night!!! I was surprised at how busy all the lounges and casino was. Not sure about the food in the Lido, as I wasn't impressed with it during the day. Much prefer the horizon court on Princess.

We had great fun at the Piano Bar Lounge everynight:D

Some people don't consider 11:30 p.m. "late night."

Its been my experience that "late night" (after midnight) room service on HAL is unreliable - no one answering the phone or very long waits for delivery. So if the ability to have a snack after midnight is important to you, I'd look at another cruise line that offers that service.

if you are used to princess's 24 hr buffet, the snack buffet on HAL doesnt compare. those roomservice choices look great, but if you cant get the order in or delivered, it doesnt matter how good it looks:( maybe keep some fruit or snacks in your frig for later.

Why not bring your favorite snack with you?

Because you don't have to bring your own on other lines...? Also, there is something fun about hanging out in the buffet area late at night with friends, etc...

Just a very IMPORTANT QUESTION, for me at least, regarding the sentence I underlined and highlighted above??

IF the ship is in Code Orange or Code Red, whatever we are calling it now, the first 72 hours of the cruise, is coffee still available???

I ask because I usually get up between 2-4 a.m. and grab some coffee and take it out onto the Lido Aft Deck and enjoy the rest of the morning.....

I do not order Room Service during that time because 1.) Hubby is still sleeping and I would hate to wake him 2.) I could not take the Room Service Coffee with me even if did order it at 2 a.m. because it is a bit difficult to maneuver a scooter, cup and carafe at the same time. LOL

Please tell me I can still do this???????

ten or 12 years ago the Midnight Buffet was packed. This is not true any more. I usually walk through on Sunday night and I am amazed at how few people are up there. The dessert extravaganza draws a big crowd, so I hear. ( With type 2 Diabetes--I stay away)

When I was in Victoria on the Rotterdam a few weeks ago I went up and had a couple of hot dogs after I packed. This was most unusual for me.

I was on the Zaandam 2 1/2 weeeks ago. I was disapointed in their late night snacks. I was eating around 6 each evening, so I was ready for a snack around 9. Both of the sides in the Lido were closed and there was never anyone available to get the ice cream. You would either have to call room service or wait until 10:30 for the late night service. Also, the cafes were all closed.

Some people are just leaving the dining room at 9:30 - 10:00 P.M. so they certainly aren't interested in late night snack at 11:00. We aren't often out of the dining room before 9:30 or even later.

DH usually has a taste for a club sandwich or milk and cookies at 2 or 3 in the morning, and never has had any problem with room service not answering or a long wait for delivery. Just our experience, though. Ships and times may differ!

I usually get up around 4 and walk the decks and maybe take a photo or two and then enjoy the sunrise . I can most often find at least one machine in the Lido ready to serve.

Yes, it is, but I don't know during the first 48 hours during the preventative "code red" times. Maybe someone else knows that.

If we don't do the late night buffet, we have always ordered club sandwiches and cookies & milk. We've never had any problem with having the phone answered/order taken and getting prompt delivery. In fact, I recall being impressed with how fast the late night orders come through. :) :)

Ok, ok everyone just needs to stop talking about the club sandwiches. You're killing me here. They have the best. So I mean it not one more mention of HAL's club sandwiches. I mean it. :p
