Military Onboard Credit announced

MCC retired

By arguiing that this is not a fair benefit you would seem to be making a comparison of the value of military service to having purchased a $4500 interest in a corporation...

It might seem it to you but I've done both, and in reality this whole thing is just a marketing ploy to increase sales, not true recognition of service.

You seem to be equating risking your life with a cash amount.

No cash amount is worth that, specially $250 max.

Now a totally free cruise for serving military and their immediate family, that would be recognition.

Why not post something on the Cunard facebook page and see if its deleted very quickly or what reaction it provokes among the wider audience.

I wonder if the reply will be in the hands of Ms Cardy:rolleyes: or might the bold man make a comment himself, perhaps we shouldnt hold our breath...

Thanks for posting this. I'm applying tomorrow for my $250 onboard credit. Assuming $10 a drink, on my 21 day voyage, I'll have at least one toast daily to the Cunard Line. Don't understand why this offer is ONLY for US/Canadian personal. Then again, we did the heavy lifting. Just kidding boys. We were all in it together.

err...I know that was written in jest - and recently your chaps (& chapesses) have indeed done most of the heavy lifting.....but t'was not ever thus:

If World War One was a bar Fight

• Germany, Austria and Italy are standing together in the middle of a pub when Serbia bumps into Austria and spills Austria's pint.

• Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete new suit because there are splashes on its trouser leg.

• Germany expresses its support for Austria's point of view.

• Britain recommends that everyone calm down a bit.

• Serbia points out that it can't afford a whole suit, but offers to pay for the cleaning of Austria's trousers.

• Russia and Serbia look at Austria.

• Austria asks Serbia who it's looking at.

• Russia suggests that Austria should leave its little brother alone.

• Austria inquires as to whose army will assist Russia in compelling it to do so.

• Germany appeals to Britain that France has been looking at it, and that this is sufficiently out of order that Britain should not intervene. Britain replies that France can look at who it wants to, that Britain is looking at Germany too, and what is Germany going to do about it?

• Germany tells Russia to stop looking at Austria, or Germany will render Russia incapable of such action.

• Britain and France ask Germany whether it's looking at Belgium.

• Turkey and Germany go off into a corner and whisper. When they come back, Turkey makes a show of not looking at anyone.

• Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and punches Belgium.

• France and Britain punch Germany.

• Austria punches Russia.

• Germany punches Britain and France with one hand and Russia with the other.

• Russia throws a punch at Germany, but misses and nearly falls over.

• Japan calls over from the other side of the room that it's on Britain's side, but stays there.

• Italy surprises everyone by punching Austria.

• Australia punches Turkey, and gets punched back.

• There are no hard feelings because Britain made Australia do it.

• France gets thrown through a plate glass window, but gets back up and carries on fighting. Russia gets thrown through another one, gets knocked out, suffers brain damage, and wakes up with a complete personality change.

• Italy throws a punch at Austria and misses, but Austria falls over anyway.

• Italy raises both fists in the air and runs round the room chanting.

America waits till Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from Britain and France, then walks over and smashes it with a barstool, then pretends it won the fight all by itself.

• By now all the chairs are broken and the big mirror over the bar is shattered. Britain, France and America agree that Germany threw the first punch, so the whole thing is Germany's fault . While Germany is still unconscious, they go through its pockets, steal its wallet, and buy drinks for all their friends.

If World War Two was a bar fight

• After the last bar fight, America decides that he needs to be the bartender and the bouncer and moves behind the bar.

• Germany comes to and sees everyone drinking with his money and sees Austria sitting in the corner by himself.

• Germany, angry that Britain, France, and America took his wallet grabs Austria and makes him stand next to him.

• Germany then does the same to Czechoslovakia.

• On the other side of the room, Japan punches China. After a while, America tells them to knock it off.

• Germany signs a bar napkin telling Britain that he is done moving people over to his side of the room.

• Germany sucker punches Poland, claiming that Poland started it.

• Russia says he will help and ends up punching Poland from the other side.

• France and Britain begin swinging at Germany. Germany pushes Britain through the door and knocks him into the pool. France is also shoved through the door, but comes back in wearing a new beret and decides to hang out with Germany.

• For no apparent reason, Russia slaps Finland.

• Italy gets into a fight over the toys in the sandbox out back, gets a bloody nose and cries to Germany for help.

• Germany and Britain get into a tug of war over Italy’s sandbox.

• Britain and Germany begin throwing rocks at each others’ houses.

• Because Russia helped him with beating up Poland, Germany sucker punches Russia.

• While everybody is looking at Germany and Britain, Japan puts China into a headlock and begins punching his head.

• America tells Japan to knock it off and tells him he’s had too much to drink and he’s cut off.

• Japan jumps over the bar and punches America. And Britain. And France. And the Netherlands.

• Germany shakes his fist at America and makes a rude noise.

• America jumps into Germany’s sandbox and falls flat on his ass. Italy laughs at him.

• Because America is mad at Germany, America punches Italy.

• America, Canada, and Britain rip off France’s new beret and punch Germany.

• America, Britain and Australia gang up and start shoving Japan back into a corner on the other side of the room.

• Germany taps America on the shoulder and says, “What’s that over there in the snow?” Then he kicks America in the behind when he’s not looking.

• Everyone piles on Germany until he passes out.

• America hits Japan in the face with a baseball bat like Capone did in “The Untouchables”. Twice.

• As Japan is on his way to the floor, Russia shakes his fist at Japan, pretending that he’s joined the fight and hoping that he’ll be able to go through Japan’s wallet after the fight’s over.

• After Japan and Germany wake up, America, France, Britain, and Russia move into Germany’s House. America moves into Japan’s house, too.

• America buys drinks for Germany and Japan until everyone is happy again.

Totally brilliant - and exceedingly accurate too!

If its the same as the Princess deal then if you receive the stockholder OBC then you cannot combine it with the military OBC anyway.

So for most regular cruisers on Carnival owned ships such as Cunard its no big deal anyway as if they are switched on to savings they are already stockholders.

I faxed my documents to our TA before reading that they could not be combined. Today he told me that he talked with Cunard and they are processing the military OBC and I should have confirmation within 2 days. (my shareholders OBC was confirmed a week or 2 ago)

Until I have it in print, I don't expect anything. I'll keep you posted.

While I am very happy for you on a personal level - as British exmilitary and as a stockholder I am not at all happy

A British registered ship on which US but not British ex servicemen are receiving OBC, and Carnival is a half British company.Doesn't make sense.

And as a stockholder - if this scheme is designed to increase bookings and profit- in your case it has not, you were already booked and its just giving you company money for no good commercial reason.

Now if I had received both stockholder and military OBC's and my future cruise credit on a recent cruise the OBC would have exceeded the actual fare amount before port fees were added.

How can that make commercial sense?

Its being paid to cruise!

If, against the odds, I do get any kind of response I will also post it on here.

J

Well, I did get a reply - and here it is. A masterly piece of non-communication if ever I saw one.

"Dear Mr Christie

Thank you for your email.

I have consulted with Mr Shanks office and I can assure you that this is

being reviewed here in the UK. Unfortunately, there is little more that I

can advise you until such time as a firm decision has been made.

I hope this information has helped to answer your enquiry and we look

forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Kind regards

Miss Cardy is clearly too busy looking for an English course to actually read what she is sent.......

Equally clearly she appears not to be the solution....

I realize that Cunard is making a terrible PR statement to only give this onboard credit to Americans/Canadians while the UK service people gave so much while marching, flying and sailing in "Harm's Way".

However, I do happen to qualify under these apparent narrow area qualifications as a 20 year USAF Officer. Today I called about getting this onboard credit on my coming voyage in January and was told to fax a copy of my required records to a telephone number in California (area code 661) which I did.

Does anyone know how to see if this credit was posted to my account short of calling Cunard again about the matter?

As retired US military, I submitted a copy of my military ID showing retired status and my driver's license. I received my OBC in less than 24 hours. Thanks to Cruise Critic as I would have otherwise never known about this.

How were you notified of the OBC? I applied today via fax with my documents.

They sent me an email with an updated account statement showing the OBC. I, too, faxed my stuff to that number.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait a few days for them to notify me before I call them again on the OBC.

I faxed the relevant docs direct to Cunard on Sun so they would have them first thing Monday(in case i forgot again!) I didnt bother my agent as saw no need to go via them to do the same thing. Anyway waited until today and as no news i called Cunard only to be told after giving my booking number etc, that they could not discuss any finances :(with me as i booked with Travel Agent, Durrrrrrrrrr. So i called my said agent and they called Cunard and confirmed to THEM my credit was applied! As Happy:D as i am what a strange way to have to go through to get an answer.

My agent said that they should reveal the information but always refer to agent whatever the reason but if you insist they do give in.

My agent knew nothing of the Military OBC system and had not heard of it, but wasnt interested in any info off me, saying if Cunard wanted them to know about it they would inform them directly.

So by 3rd Party i eventually have to assume i have my OBC.

As a Commonwealth veteran I certainly hope Cunard will extend the OBC to all. But seriously, does anyone believe Cunard will make it easy to prove qualification? Discharge certificate? Well, many veterans carry a 'Retired' ID card, I do, that should be enough.

It makes you proud to be British ,CUNARD a fleet with the royal family ... Pity they forget the British military and other commenwealth forces fighting at the moment .... Or once again its the American money that makes this crazy world go round or the assumption no one else can afford Cunards the prices if your in the British forces... Im a very proud veteran to the British Army ... involved in several campaigns ironically got a free trip with Cunard But that was the Falklands , got a free drink too
