NBC News just happened to find this site today?

Kinda looks that way, since their "join date" is today. Not that surprising though. A link to this thread has been posted to Twitter, and folks in the newsgathering business have used Twitter before to get info on breaking news events.

I guess that what we post here gets around!

I'm sure all the people on the ship and family and friends who like myself are watching developments are really grateful for the maths lesson.

How awful of the people to have perhaps over estimated the list.

What is wrong with some of you? BND asked a perfectly reasonable and clearly stated question. He did not attack anyone. I appreciate that there are people on every cruise who can perhaps best be described as "anti-intellectual" -- fortunately a minority as far as we have experienced on sharing tables -- but to write offensive and sarcastic posts because someone poses a question with, Heavens to Betsy, some math in it! That makes you just mean.

Or the PP saw the edited post prior to the cleaning up and was commenting on that.

The poster didn't say that the captain decided not to use the stabilizers. She said after slowing down to enter the port that the stabilizers were not effective. I am not completely sure at this minute about my physics, but I believe that there has to be a certain about of forward motion for stabilizers to really have an effect. Though this is not a perfect analogy, think of the wing of an airplane, below a certain amount of air moving past the wing it is nothing more than a piece of metal and composite sticking out from the body of the plane. It will neither lift nor keep the plane up in the air.

The Captain told us when he slowed down due to all the other boat traffic by the port. The decrease in speed did cause the stabilizers to not work as efficiently as they had been earlier.

This is Carol's roommate and I really don't remember if the Captain said 15% or 15 degrees, but the point is that it was one heck of a scary experience to be awakened in the middle of the night to the ship tilting back and forth. Not just one tilt, but over and over again. It's not something I wish on anyone to ever experience.

This is just awful! But, thank goodness the injuries weren't serious. We've written a news item about it for the site, thanks to the information provided by all of you: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=4269.

To jimbo5544 and anyone else who may have photos or video of the events: If you're willing to share them, we'd grately appreciate it, as we're looking to add more perspective to the story.

Thanks so much,

~Ashley :)

They are going to try and send us something from Malta. If I get something, I will forward it to you. I will probably be pictures and not video. We had a follow up cell phone conversation with them late this afternoon. Nothing but minor injuries (bumps and bruises), but it was very scary as it occurred.

They also said that they had gotten frequent information and updates from the captain. The last information we got was that as the ship slowed to enter the Alexandria port and listed several times from the the swells. They had a pretty rough trip over to there to begin with.

*lol* My thoughts were along that same line.

OB, Hope the weather in the Westerly/Charlestown are does not get as bad as we have seen elsewhere in the US...and what was described off Egypt and Isreal.

It is definitely interesting to hear the extra stories that have come in thru the day. Guess by February the ship should be back to her old self...all the pianos etc...replaced.

We are scheduled to be on the next cruise on the 17th...any word if the ship will be able to travel or do any of you think they will cancel the cruise?? The RCCL site is not selling any tickets for this next cruise on the 17th. Any thoughts out there??

Thanks, Laura. After being up for about 40 hours now (couldn't hardly sleep with the swells last night), I am not sure if it was percent or degrees. But as you said - who needs a math lesson right now? We had the scariest experience of our lives which I wouldn't wish on anybody.

The Captain was great with keeping us informed; coming on the intercom about 4 times in the hour immediately after the event, and having his announcements translated into several languages each time.

The staff have been going non-stop to clear the areas. The amount of work they have done to keep us all fed is amazing. The Windjammer was a disaster area this morning. That it was open for limited dinner service was incredible.

We have been given $200 obc per cabin. There are people right here in the computer area writing a letter to RCI saying it's not enough. They had to line up for breakfast and lunch. Whatever. I will not comment on the compensation. But I give credit where credit is due.

The staff have gone without sleep to clean the ship and keep us fed. Venues are being reopened. The Casino is up, and everyone was in the Schooner Bar tonight having a good time. I am trying to make lemonade out of lemons here. Between the weather in England connecting there, to strikes in Spain, to the storm in the Med - this has been a cruise to remember. But, I am still having a good time, and enjoying meeting my fellow cruisers. We are all safe; no one was seriously injured. I'm not going to write a letter of complaint because I had to line up for breakfast.

Aren't you pleasant? Where he He** did I not sympathize with them? Where did I not say it was scary? Show me!!! Really? The point is, what they described, if accurate is very, very, very rare. What do you know about sailing other than relaxing onboard a cruise ship?

Nowhere did I point out what was wrong. What I did was question who said they listed the precentages that were posted. Reading comprehension people. Please, please show me where I EVER said they were wrong.

Sorry if a professional thought it was unusual.

More than one person thought you were wrong. Let it go.

I did hear from someone that works for RCI that your cruise is going ahead as scheduled.

We are having drenching rains right now. Expecting about 3 inches of rain in about a 12 hour period. Fortunately, it is not cold enough right now to support snow.

Thanks for the update, Carol, (and also for putting some things in perspective) ;)

Hope you can enjoy the new ports.

Sorry for the short notice, but NBC just posted on Twitter that they have "first photos" from the Brilliance on the Nightly News, coming on right now (US East Coast).

Thanks! The story came on just after I changed the channel after reading your post. The pictures were very impressive.... and not in a good way.

I was just thinking about how Brilliance seems to have a way of making the news every once in a while.:o

I wasnt able to catch the news on the TV. Is there a link that shows the pictures? I have looked on MSNBC but can't find anything. Thanks.

The news is still on so they haven't posted it yet on the website but you should be able to find it in a little while at this link.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/

On the left, there is a link for full broadcasts, so I would check there in a while.
