Rough or Calm Seas in Pacific?

We're looking at several cruises - Pacific Rim (Singapore to japan), Pacific Rim to Alaska, Oceana, California to Hawaii, West Coast of S America.

Does anyone have knowledge of how likely we would be to encounter rough seas on each of these itineraries? Which would be the worst/best seasons to try these routes?

We've been to Panama Canal (San Diego to Fla) and the Baltic (to/from Dover) and these were relatively calm save a day or 2. Thanks for your insights.

We've done all of these cruises and found the only bad seas were Japan to Alaska and the West Coast of South America (Roaring 40s latitudes). We have done them at different times of the year and it didn't seem to matter.

All are great cruises that we would not have missed even if we had been guarenteed rough seas!

We had to avoid the typhoon Melor and lost Tokyo overnight (Cancel)...

We've been on two Hawaii cruises and will go on another one next year. Both those times, the first couple of days out of California were choppy (that's due to crossing the Humboldt current, which runs along the entire West Coast), and so were the last two days. Otherwise fairly calm. This was end of March/early April. But it depends on what weather system you might encounter! We always get cabins amidships and in 15 cruises have never yet gotten seasick (knock-on-wood!).

Each cruise is different, but there are certain locations that are known for rough seas. One that we experienced was the night before we arrived in Valparaiso, Chile.

Even some of the most treacherous areas can be peaceful one day and extremely rough the next, i.e. Drake's Lake or Drake's Shake (Drake's Passage).

Despite very rough weather, I wouldn't have missed this cruise. Take medication before it gets rough, don't wait until the sea is churned up. Once you feel queasy it is generally too late for motion sickness medication to work.
