After dinner do u ever change into more comfortable cloths?

In the Caribbean, my sea day outfit is normally a bathing suit and cover up...However, my cover-ups look more like summer dresses than swim wear...If I throw it on with some sandals, then you can barely tell its a cover up..

If I am going to do a lot of activities inside, I may wear shorts or capris and t-shirts, just because I do get chilly from the a/c.

I normally dress up a little more at night (slacks or skirt with a nice blouse) and normally won't change again after that. I treat evenings on the ship as though I am "going out" and tend to dress up more when I go out at night, even at home or on a land vacation.

Swim suits are not permitted in the Main Dining Room on HAL ships and I imagine most other cruise lines have the same rule. Maybe not?

If in the Caribbean, I wear capri or crop pants with jersey/top if we 'go out' for breakfast. We sometimes have room service breakfast.

If I'm going to the pool, I change into swimsuit after breakfast.

I would go to lunch in Lido with swimsuit and cover up that really covers up..... meaning I don't feel comfortable going to Lido with just a wrap or sarong around my waist. I like some cover on top, as well, in dining areas.

Any other activities out and about around the ship during the day, I wear capri/crop pants or maybe knee length khaki/jean skirt and top....in the Caribbean or Canada/New England cruises.

A trip to the gym is usually the first activity of the day when we're not in port. Afterwards, I'll slip into a swimsuit, and head straight to the sauna. A stop at the nearby pool might be on the agenda. Next comes a quick trip to the room, shower and then change into shorts (until dinner). By then FOOD is a necessity, and other activities are on the radar. The attire to dinner is always a nice dress and stilletos, unless it's formal night and then it's a gown.

I slip into shorts for breakfast...sometimes, the bathing suit is under the shorts! Then, I hit the pool for the day...and head to the cabin to change for dinner late afternoon.

On most ships, day time is ultra-casual...they don't want to see your swimsuit in the dining venues, (and you wouldn't wear a bathing suit to the casino or shops!), but out on deck, swimsuits rule.

Those "breakfast shorts" can be worn several times....they're only on for 30-40 mins!!!

thanks for the feedback...just want to cut down on packing so i'm thinking i'll bring like 3 casual cover-up dresses for the 9 days and perhaps a few pair of shorts. i am always chilly so i'm thinking some sweaters for the evening and perhaps a zippered fleece for daytime on the ship in the a/c.

Everyone is entitled to enjoy their vacation, but you may want to rethink a swimsuit for breakfast, certainly not in the MDR As far as HAL and NCL this is a no no. You may want to check the ships laundry service. HAL offers great prices for laundering services.

Have a wonderful time.

If you are wearing a sundress type of cover up - NO ONE will ever know if there is a bathing suit on underneath. I think what they don't want is someone walking in in a bathing suit only or only with a sarong as a cover up.

dh goes to the gym -- has workout clothes -- very early in the morning

then he changes for breakfast -- we both wear bermudas to go to breakfast and lunch no matter whether we eat in the lido or the dining room

if we do go to the pool -- then we change and definitely use a coverup

for dinner -- we follow the dress code and stay dressed that way the entire evening

It depends on the weather. I rarely lay out by the pool, even more rarely do I get into the pool, so a bathing suit doesn't suit my needs in the morning. So, if it's warm I wear shorts and a T, or a sun dress.

I've cruised plenty on the Pacific and it's hardly ever warm on the sea days, so I take a pair of comfortable capri length pants and wear those with a T and I take a lightweight jacket along. More like a workout outfit than a cutesy outfit.

Yes, I will change clothes after dinner, depending on what we are doing. Many times it's to take a walk on the upper deck, so I can change into the above mentioned outfit for 30 minutes or so.

I’ll usually wear capris/shorts/top or a sun dress ( cover-up) over my swimsuit. That way, I am dressed for the pool, but feel more comfortable if I do any “inside ship” activities like meal in the dining room, trivia, tours, casino. etc. This is my drill for RCCL

Enjoy

I never change my clothes after dinner. I really can't see the point. After I have gone to the effort to fix up for dinner I do not want to change again.

During the day I only wear my bathing suit if I am going to the pool. The rest of the day I dress in slacks and a top or--if in the tropics, I will wear shorts and a top---maybe a light cotton skirt or sundress.

For breakfast I always wear street clothes and do not change for the pool until afterwards. If we are still by the pool at noon, I will go into the Lido with a cover-up on to get my food but I will take it back out to the pool deck to find a table to eat out there. We never eat in the Lido with swim suits on, not in the least because it is not fair to leave damp seats behind for others to sit on.

I'm a guy, so it's a bit different...but I get up, shower, put on a speedo, then a pair of baggy shorts and a casual shirt (I prefer ones that button). Then I can go anywhere or just drop the shorts and shirt at the pool and relax. Then, after the pool, I lose the swimsuit and put the shorts back on. Then put on long pants and a nicer shirt for dinner.

But it's your trip, and you should be comfortable...do what you'd like, but I always think, "would I let my son wear that?"

One nice thing about sea days on a cruise -- it is so easy and fast to go back to the cabin and change if you want to. So I don't think it makes that much difference if you wear your swimsuit under a cover-up to breakfast. You might save, what, 15 minutes?

On a sea day I normally sleep a little longer and have breakfast via room service, so no need to change there. Then I usually will throw on a bathing suit and shorts and t-shirt or cover up. This way for me I can do activities and then if I want to go by the pool I can just run to the room and throw my cover up on.

Lunch is fine in a cover up on the lido as long as you are covered!

Dinner- After 3 cruises I have come to the realization that I need to wear what I have on for dinner ALL NIGHT.. My first cruise was 7 days and I literally had a am outfit, a dinner outfit, then a after dinner outfit on top of PJ's and gym outfits. 1 large suit case, a carry on and a back pack.... WAY too much and I had almost no room to bring home goodies!

My next cruise is going to be a 4 night out of LA with 2 days prior to in LA and then 4 nights in Vegas. Total of 11 days in 1 suitcase. I am pretty confident!!!

Good luck!!!

Sea days are at the pool. After returning to the cabin (afternoon) and showering, I change into shorts/tee for walking around the ship or joining in games. Later I change into dinner clothing (which is usually pants/long sleeve top - because I get cold easily). Whatever I wear to dinner, I remain in for the rest of the evening.

I usually put on my bathing suit and then wear either shorts/tee shirt over it or a sundress. Grab some breakfast at the buffet and then head right to the pool. If I eat lunch, it's from a grab and go and then back to my pool chair. Dinner attire is formal on those dedicated nights and dressy the rest of the time. We stay in our dinner attire until it's time to head back to the cabin for the night.

I think it really depends on the weather! When I was in Canada/New England I wore jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. But when I went to Bermuda I wore shorts and a t-shirt to breakfast. Then after that I would go back to my room and change because I got up early, we're talking like 7-8am to eat and it was still too cold to lay out just yet. Then for lunch I would either put on a cover up, or let myself dry off if I was in the pool and wear shorts and a t-shirt. I don't really think it's appropriate to see people wearing bathing suits and dripping wet while eating, in my opinion. If that's the case, it would be nice if they eat by the pool area and not in the buffet seating. I just never wore anything too dressed up, or too dressed down.
