Muumuu Posted April 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2011 Going on a 12 day cruise out of Barcelona. No clue as to how much euros to take. Using a cc and need euros for taxi, tips and etc. Heard you need to tip to enter a bathroom. True? How much? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am clueless. riffatsea Posted April 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2011 Most folks use their ATM card to withdraw euros. Not sure where your cruise goes besides Barcelona but you don't need to tip anyone to go to the bathroom. Usually I use bathrooms in restaurants or tourist sites and they are free. Some public bathrooms in Italy cost money but I have never used them.
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 30, 2011 No need to tip to go in the bathroom. Like even the USA you may find a rest room where someone is standing there and tries to get tips for handing you soaps, towels and the like. No need to tip. I would use an ATM card to obtain euros. We estimate on the low side what we'll need and we can always get more. However, if you think you'll return to Europe for another trip in the near future you would be less concerned with leftover euros. Keith
KirkNC Posted April 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2011 It's not a tip but in Venice, some of the restrooms cost 1 euro. Kirk

Thank you You may want to use the Search feature as there is a great deal of information on this subject. Here is a link that has helpful information from Cruise Critic posters: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1399897 Rick Steves, travel guru, provides this information: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/moneytip.htm We will purchase enough euros here in the US prior to leaving, to get us through one day. Then we will use ATM's that are readily available. Enjoy your travels to Barcelona, it is a fun place to visit.

Thank you When you are in Spain, the Euro is not foreign money. The US dollar is. WD

Thank you We were on a 9 day cruise out of Barcelona with four days Pre and Post in Barcelona. I took out 400Euros a the Barcelona Airport with my ATM card. That was not enough, since I paid for most of our meals in Barcelona in cash, and we exchanged for 200Euros more on the ship (not as good as using an ATM). We needed the extra Euros to pay for a tour company that picked us up at the port and I didn't know if there was an ATM at the port.
