We would like to go on a British Isles cruise next summer, taking in the Scottish Highlands.

We would like to go for 14 nights, if possible.

Can anyone offer any recommendations please?

Hi Jennie,

The Holland America Eurodam does a 10 or 11 night round trip from Amsterdam with stops in South Queensferry, Invergordon, Newcastle and a handful of stops in Norway and Denmark.

Cunard's newest ship the Queen Elizabeth does a 12 night British Isles late July and early August with stops in South Queensferry, Invergordon, Kirkwall, Greenock, Liverpool, Dublin and St. Peter Port.

You should really speak with a travel agent to find the routes you like best and the ships that most appeal to you.

We did the Crown Princess' British Isles in Aug.-Sept. and enjoyed it tremendously. HIghly recommended.

We had been to London and Edinburgh before but never to Ireland or other parts of Scotland. I was totally blown out by Victorian Glasgow.

We departed from Dover. We jetted in from the U.S. that morning and took a Princess transfer to the ship. The first stop was to have been Guernsey but high seas did not allow us to tender there. No prob. We welcomed a leisurely day on board.

One great thing about Princess is that in many ports in Ireland (we visited Cobh, Dublin and Belfast) and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen local dancers and pipers were invited to give a free show on board. We also stopped in Liverpool and, on the final day, Le Havre. Having been to Paris before, we just toured Le Havre which was pleasant enough.

Because many of the ports are tidal ports, arrival and departure depend on tides. So compare not only the itinerary and price but also how long the ship stays in ports.

One more thing. I particularly liked the Princess selection of cheeses in MDR. Appropriately they had stilton on several nights. We recently competed a 28-day Rio-FLL cruise on the HAL Veendam. Disappointing cheeses.

There's lots of lines doing this cruise this year, so they're probably doing it next....

P&O Adonia

Cunard QM2

Fred Olsen- several ships

Crystal

RCI's Vision of the Seas

Princess

Ocean Countess

Marco Polo

There's usually a HAL ship.

Hope you can find something from that lot!!!;)

we are doing this on the Queen Elizabeth this year.

Did this itinerary on a Princess ship a few years ago and it was fab. Highlight was the Edinburgh Tattoo. We had 15 coaches leave from the ship and the ship was held until 1.30 am to allow us all to get back and eat etc. You do have to go during the times the Tattoo is on of course, so have to choose a ship accordingly. I think its August?

We chose the QE this year, because she leaves from Southampton and that is very convenient from London.

Seeing as you're in Portsmouth, then Southampton's just next door for many of these cruises, except Fred from Dover.....BUT- if you can afford it, there's always the Hebridean Princess from Oban- my dream for when the Premium Bonds come up....

Unless the Queen's booked it again.....:p

We are leaving Sunday for our British Isles cruise with Princess. When we get back I will let you know how we liked it.

Princess is offering the exact same cruise next summer. Also Holland America, and Royal Caribbean is offering some very similar ones also.

Also Cunard.
