Smoking Ban and Early saver, A Twist.

For those of you interested in canceling an ES that sails after December 1st... I just got off the phone with Carnival and canceled my January cruise. From the time I dialed until I hung up it was 14 minutes. 5 minutes on hold until someone answered and 9 minutes to process the cancelation.

One interesting thing was the lady on the phone said I had until 6/26 to cancel. I was asked if I would like to switch my cruise to prior to December 1st and I said no thank you. At the end of the call she said I would receive my full refund in 7 to 10 business days. I did have to ask for an email confirmation on the cancelation and thanked her for her assistance.

off topic, but please tell me how you check for changes

I go to Carnival's website and plug in all my information on my exact cruise to the room I booked. If the price is lower I fill out a price protection claim form and within 3 days I have my credit. I have received 3 on board credits sice I have booked.

Just got off the phone with my PVP. I am booked on the Breeze for oct 2012. I asked to cancel and was told no. Not even paying the 50 dollar penalty. 12 day cruise was expensive and a balcony would really be over my budget. WHAT TO DO WHAT TO DO:mad:

I would call the 800 number and talk to someone else. I was able to cancel my 7 Day Legend cruise for jan 2012 with no problem. I simply called the 800 number since I don't have a PVP.
My PVP has told me that technically they could charge you for an upgrade, but that its foolish to do so and they never do it. That for one is definately a money driven decision.

keep us posted.
With Early Saver you can upgrade to a higher category for no charge, well have the charge of difference in price of the cabins, but no charge for changing. Have done it many times when there were price drops and decide to pay the difference and bump up. And this is over the last couple years......not due the the current issues.

Just tell your stewart your not smoking in your room and you should be ok hope your not a nag on them on the balcony smokers still have alittle rights left
Yes, I would like to know the same thing. We have a 7 night sailing on the Legend starting November 27th. We are not smokers, but just want to know what to do if the people in cabins surrounding us are smoking. We are in an obstruted balcony. I also don't want to be charged for cleaning out our cabin if it smells like smoke from people smoking on other balconies if the wind blows it into our cabin.

Knowing that after finally taking my first vacation in25yrs this October, that I would be sad for it to end, I was already looking at cruises for next year with dreamy eyes.

I'll go to a resort instead now. This has stirred up too much disatisfaction, and division between smokers and militant nonsmokers. Not what I look for in a vacation.

Cancun, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, USVI, the all inclusive resorts will get my business, it's a good bet they will benefit from others who think the same.
I think you meant militant smokers as well. They didnt ban smoking im not sure what all the uproar is about.

[*]Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony. However, Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, will remain an entirely smoke-free environment.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's ticket contract.
Decisions like these are never easy and we realize some of you may be affected by this change. We sincerely hope this won't affect your ability to have a fun and memorable cruise vacation. In fact, we are hopeful you will see this as an enhancement to your on board experience and have an even better time sailing with us. Please know we are committed to providing a clean and healthy environment for all our guests.
We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your cooperation in adhering to our new smoking policy. Most importantly, we look forward to welcoming you aboard!
If you are an early saver and want to cancel do so now as you only have till June 30th to do so with out penalty. After that......
BJ, according to Carnival this only applies if your cruise is after Dec. 1. John Heald says otherwise, and some have said they got their's cancelled, but Carnival says no way.

I've been trying to cancel my 2012 without any success. If it's not confirmed as cancelled without penalty, then I'll have to escalate it since I'm on another cruise next week and will miss most of the window to get out of this mess.

I haven't seen too many situations where much luck is being had at cancelling without getting supervisors involved. My PVP just won't seem to follow through on this.

That's annoying me worse than the rest of this situation.

This just in from my PVP....

If guests want to cancel because of this change in policy, ES deposits will only be refunded if they are traveling on a cruise that departs as of December 1. John Heald will be clarifying this on his blog since I understand this is causing some confusion.

I guess those that canceled yesterday and got a full refund are lucky to have gotten a full refund. I have not read Johns blog or FB this am. Just got the email and wanted to update here.

I called the 800 number today. I spoke to a very nice lady and explained my desire to cancel my 9/2011 cruise without penalty. She listened to my reasoning, I was calm and did not attack her. She said she could not give me the refund but that she could transfer me to another person. The second person listened to my reasoning, and again I was CALM and stated I understood that she was not personally responsible for the change in policy. It took about 20 mins on the phone, but I did get a full refund of my ES deposit.

Awesome Molly. My issue is that my PVP won't deal with it....sigh...after all these years. So, I'll have to go through the main 800 number. No big deal - but, while I'm at it, I might just cancel September now too and move over to another line.

My issue is that I requested, nicely, to cancel the March trip. And nothing. Just the "I'll call you". While, that is nice, it still doesn't help me that I need the trip cancelled so I can pay off the new March trip to get a few extra perks. So, I keep asked, "Please let me know when it's been cancelled - I really need to have this done".

Why a simple request cannot be handled politely by Carnival is beyond me.

Back to the original idea....

Our July balcony price did drop a bit this AM. Not enough for me to get any OBC though.

Any one wanting a full refund, I would suggest a call to the 800 number ASAP before John puts out his blurb and clarification that my PVP says is coming.

Best wishes and Smooth Sailings to all!

I am not a smoker. My husband smokes cigars. I am getting such a big kick out of reading this thread. You people are so anal that you can not find somewhere on these boats to smoke that you have to cancel your trip??? Go ahead and let me have it but golly, there are still so many places to smoke. You never could smoke in the dining rooms anyway. And if you smoke in your cabin you come out smelling like an ashtray so now you will have the benfit of smelling better, at least your clothes and hair will. Get a life. Enjoy your cruise. Get out on the open deck and enjoy your cigar or cigarette in the breeze.

I was calm and polite for two hours yesterday with no success. Congrats on yours. My PVP said if I can get the last name and sailing date of even one person who got their's cancelled, he can try to get mine done. It is not me that needs to cancel, it is one of my cabin mates. Oh well. That's how the cookie crumbles.
You can only cancel without penalty if your booked cruise(s) are for after the policy change goes into effect (December 2011).

Since yours are both well before then, good luck with that.
I may have misunderstood it but from what I read, some of the changes go into effect immediatly.

Smoking in staterooms go into effect Dec. 1st but the piano bar, casino bar, and limited smoking in the casino are immediate.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. If I am correct, why would someone not be able to cancel without penalty if the contract was changed in any way from what it was when you booked?

The new rules are not a deal breaker for me but it could be for someone who enjoys smoking cigars in the cigar bars, or someone who smokes who frequent the piano bar.
