Frick & Frack....When and where? I might join you as i am canceling my April 15th cruise.

To me is the principal of it all and not fair as smokers are second hand citizens and if not we sure are being treated like it. Cudos to all of you non-smokers but give us a break too please.

My husband is a smoker we booked ES OV. We deceided to up grade to an Balcony Cabin. The fee to clean the OV is $250.00 we up graded for $300.00 with no problem. All you non-smokers will have to deal with more smokers on the balconies now.

LOL>>> ah ha.....so it seems NOT all "courteous smokers" ONLY smoked "on the balcony">.....seems like you planned to smoke in your OV cabin right???

A LOT of smokers here claim they don't smoke in the enclosed cabins...but I bet a LOT do...someone smoked in my OV cabin on IMagination in Dec...the stewards did a good job of cleaning and ozoning it and changing stuff but it really did reek...yuck

My guess....most of the smokers whose (poor them) spouse/SO is a NON smoker probably do get balconies and try to confine their smoking there...

but there are also plenty who smoke in the cabins

Walk down the hall on Fantasy class ships...you can smell them

I was on one cruise super annoying where smokers were smoking in an interior cabin...but OPENED THE DOOR TO THE HALLWAY ALL THE TIME....

Guess the cabin got too smoky for them..so they let the hallway have it

wow was that annoying

As for your "deal with it">> no problem....the insides and ocean views may go down in price, thanks a bunch :)

Years ago (and I do mean YEARS) ago....there was much discussion about smokers who did smoke in their cabins and propped their cabin door open to keep their cabin from being full of smoke.

Of course, since smoking was not allowed in the hallways....this practice ended up breaking that rule.

IF a cabin was doing this and security was called, security would advise them that they have to keep the door closed.

When approaching the subject of propping the door open, many of the smokers on Cruise Critic said they do it and some even bragged that even if Security was called....they would just close the door until security was gone. They were very proud of their defiance....

And I commented at that time...."ok, but don't come crying to us when Carnival eliminates smoking in the cabins because of it. You will only have yourselves to blame."

Not saying that is the only reason smoking in the cabins was stopped...but could it be a large contributing factor????

We will never know....

No one thinks smokers are second class citizens, we are just tired of your addictions effecting our health! Is that so hard to understand?

Smoking kills. Why should innocent bystanders be effected by your addiction? If you want lung cancer, emphysema, etc. that's up to you.

Go find another cruise line if you don't like the rules. I would feel incredibly guilty knowing my bad habit might effect someone else's health whether is was "allowed" or not. Being allowed does not make it ethically right.

And a disabled person should not be given a pass because of their predicament. They should have no more the right to infringe their bad habit on others than a healthy individual. If a person is disabled then they should be extra careful to be taking care of their body and their immune system. Give me a break already.

Very true...and while we don't "know", we have heard here (many times) to "just ask your steward to deep clean your room">>> think of the man hours, the time spent cleaning, replacing smoke filled "soft" goods...???

apparently "some" were smoking in their cabins....NOT all smokers were on balconies only....or in the case of most Fantasy Class ships, NOT all smokers got the (few) suites with balconies....so therefore there were "inside" smokers....

and who knows? Maybe other "hallway" smokers.....who thought why not open the door, let some of the smoke out??

they had people who smoked inside the cabins...now at least IF they have to deep clean and replace stuff the smoker will foot the bill.

Sorry you don't like my disabilities but i deal with them and i don't infringe on other people with my smoking.

I stay in my cabin or stated smoking areas.

I am 80 years old and if i want to cruise and i also want to smoke that is my businness.

Hope you make it there and still want to go as much as i do.

I will not confine myself to my four walls because of negative people.

That's our point as well. Plus, we cruise during cold months, etc. and I should not be penalized to have to either stand in the cold or leave my paid for room to smoke.

It's our opinion and we stand by it. Plus, NCL was perfectly happy to take my money.

So....you admit you do smoke inside the cabin right??

NCL is happy...but you can ONLY smoke in the casino and cigar bar there....and on one side of the open deck. No smoking in the "disco" or other bars

I never realized people were on trial here ... wow!

It's all in the past now anyway so what difference does it make? Time to let go and move forward. It seems as if most of us have ...

I think this thread got side tracked. Started out being Smoking ban and Early saver and now it is all about smoking..... it is bickering about rights of smokers and non-smokers.

Where does it end?

Regardless we have two choices, go and obey the rules, or do something else someplace else.

More misinformation here ....NCL does allow smoking in all cabins and on balconies....but ONLY inside in casino and "cigar bar"....period

one side of deck allows smoking

and they enforce it

More misinformation here....while RCI allows smoking on balconies, it is ONLY on the outside balconies which are (usually) much more expensive....they have a number of "inside" balconies that overlook the Promenade, and on the new ships the "Central Park" and Boardwalk...so you are gonna pay a LOT more...a balcony on Carnival would be cheaper

European?? Well MSC brags 90% smoke free....NO smoking in cabins or balconies.....they have a disco, cigar bar and one "lounge" that allows smoking...period

Now...Costa is liberal...the most liberal is Pulmanter but of course they speak Spanish and cruise Europe.....maybe Asian lines

More misniformation : the major all inclusives went NON smoking in 2006....in all rooms...in all lounges, etc....only outside smoking permitted

some of you might want to check your facts here

Inside balconies overlooking the promenade? What ships have these:confused:

BTW I didn't pay anymore for my balcony on RCCL....actually it was cheaper......but that's a whole other subject;)

they have balconies on Allure and Oasis that overlook those inside spaces.....the promenade ones on the Freedom etc class are not balconies but about as expensive, and you cant smoke in them

The fact is that most of this talk of going elsewhere is just talk IMHO>>> the conquest class ships....and the old Destiny....should be fine for most smokers.

Not sure about the Fantasy class...they don't have many balconies

Ok so I took your advice. My PVP did not call back today as she promised and I called the regular Carnival number. I was on hold for 20 minutes and then was told she needed to check with her supervisor and would call me back.

I just checked in manage my cruises and the cruise is gone. However, I still have not recieved a call about my money or if I had to pay the ES penalty. I don't know if I have credit, or I will recieve a refund in the mail, or what.

I also have an FCC I need to get the money back for so that will be a whole 'nother story.

Thanks for this thread OP ! After 40 minutes back and forth I finally am getting all my money back .

For us what was confusing was I had several bookings on several cards .

Now the payments I made on cards that I still have will just be returned credit.

The payments I made check by phone will be sent back to me in the form of a check .

Two payments I made were with a card I no longer keep . So that check back might take up to 8-10 weeks .

But hey , if it wasn't for this thread , I would have kept thinkin' I was ES hit

outta luck . Thanks a million OP ! Take care CCL it's been fun !

Some of the arguments are that people are really tired of being told what they can or can't do however those same people don't even realize that their lives are being dictated by a nasty addiction.........how sad IMHO........

Wow...so right...and I noticed that no smokers responded to that.

I will not confine myself to my four walls because of negative people.

This is what I think you (and many others) are not getting.

Accountability.

Negative people will not ever be able to confine you to 4 walls. Your addiction is what confines you, and limits you.

You need to face this because your limitations are only going to expand.

Non smokers are not to blame for this. Your habit is to blame.

Deep down you all know it.

just read an article in the paper this morning that the train platforms of the Long Island Railroad and Metro North will be now be smokefree. So now the only place a smoker can smoke when riding the train will be on the street level sidewalk.

Just an FYI that the times...they r a changin'

Yes, we will smoke in our cabin when the weather is bad. And, afterwards, I will open the balcony door. We do not chain smoke anywhere (inside or outside).

Actually, on NCL you CAN smoke on your balcony and in your cabin if you wish. I double-checked that.

Due to various issues, we do not go to discos nor many bars on board. We spend most of our time on our balcony or the casino. Both of which are designated smoking areas. And, we LIKE Cigar Bars. That, for us, is a huge part of our cruising experience.

So, please check your facts before posting incorrect information.

While I applaud the fact that you have absolutely no "nasty addiction" to anything that controls where you go, when you go or how long you stay in a place, there are others who do have "nasty addictions".

These can run a wide gamut of things and can definitely be life controlling. Trust me, I live it (and, no, smoking is not it and it is not any illegal addictions - just problems that control my life and how I must live it).

So, if you and your smoking DH don't make any decisions at all based on his ability, or inability, to have a cigarette. That is truly wonderful for you.

But, please do not judge other people until you have spent just one day living our lives. I can assure you, some of us make daily choices that I would hope no one else would ever have to make in their lives (again, with smoking ranking really low on that list).
