kywildcatfanone Posted December 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2011 Hi folks, We are going to be on the Grand in a couple of weeks. Would like advice on the best time to go to the gym on sea and port days. I've tried going early in the morning, and it's usually quite crowded. Would something like 10-11 am be good, or 2-3pm? Thanks, Mike
Astro Flyer Posted December 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2011 Hi folks, We are going to be on the Grand in a couple of weeks. Would like advice on the best time to go to the gym on sea and port days. I've tried going early in the morning, and it's usually quite crowded. Would something like 10-11 am be good, or 2-3pm? Thanks, Mike I go after 5:00pm & have never had a problem using a treadmill for an hour because it's uncrowded. With late TD, it works great for me & figure it's a good way to try to increase my metabolism before dinner. :p
Kirsten T Posted December 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2011 Late afternoon seems to work best for me - like 3pm on. And in my experience, by the last few days of the cruise, the gym's a lot less busy even in the AM. Hey, it's vacation... get back on the treadmill when the party's over! ;) Cheers, Kirsten
Mycruises62 Posted December 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2011 I just returned from the Golden princess. I used the gym everyday in the morning and it was packed. go after 6 or so, empty.
Rare TracieABD Posted December 11, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2011 Around lunchtime can be very empty, as well.:)
TorontoTL Posted December 11, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2011 We go to the gym after dinnertime if we want the gym to ourselves. ;)
srpilo Posted December 11, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2011 My preference is to be there 1st thing in the morning just as they open the doors, there's usually a few others waiting but at that time all the machines and equipment are available. But of course within a half hour or so the gym is usually packed... If you're not a early riser the other suggestions regarding the late afternoon and evening are spot on. I like to start my day onboard in the gym, followed by a great breakfast (my cruise ritual ) :) Srpilo
Rare Woobstr112G Posted December 11, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 11, 2011 I usually play it by ear and roll the dice in going at different times. If the wait is too long or if I run in to treadmill savers (yes, I've seen them), I'll fast walk a couple miles around the promenade deck.....:):):) Bob

Alicomp Posted December 11, 2011 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2011 Even though I don't like to workout at night, when on cruises, we eat early and then work out afterwards and the gym is empty. Then go back to the cabin, shower and dress for the evening.
lovevacadays Posted December 12, 2011 #11 Share Posted December 12, 2011 If you don't get there right when the gym opens it's best between 3-6pm.

kywildcatfanone Posted December 12, 2011 Author #17 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Thanks all for the replies. I really don't want to get up early and go work out, so I will likely shoot for 3-4pm and see what happens. That will give me time to get cleaned up for dinner and the rest of the evening. Princess Patches Posted December 12, 2011 #18 Share Posted December 12, 2011 On some ships the treadmills do not open until 8:00 a.m. because of the complaints from passengers in the cabins below.

srpilo Posted December 13, 2011 #20 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Anyone know what time it opens in the AM? Princess gym's are ship specific.. Some ships it's 7:00am (way to late IMO) and some it's 6:00am. As an example, the Ruby this october was 6:00am, but the Grand in may was 7:00am Srpilo
